      • Application of Sorptive Building Materials Reducing Indoor Air Pollution for Improving Indoor Air Quality

Seo, Jang Hoo,Park, Seong Hyun,Lee, Sun Woo Trans Tech Publications, Ltd. 2015 Applied Mechanics and Materials Vol.749 No.-

<P>In order to improve indoor air quality, the interest in and the use of sorptive building materials that decrease the concentration of an indoor air pollutant have increased. The use of sorptive building materials is one way to decrease the concentration of an indoor pollutant that can adversely affect human health. In this study, we evaluated the effects of sorptive building materials applied to a wall on the decrease in the concentration of toluene emitted from the flooring. We also examined how the air exchange rate of the room, the loading factor of the sorptive materials, and the mass transfer coefficient influenced the sorptive performance; these effects were well reproduced experimentally with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. The results show that sorptive building materials have a fairly strong effect on the decrease in toluene concentrations in rooms and that this effect can be expected in real-world scenarios.</P>

Recently, universities are actively promoting cooperation and cooperation projects with the surrounding regions where the campus is located for win-win development with the local community. In this context, this study focuses on the street space around the campus as a social and spatial base space for revitalizing the university campus town. As a case area for the study, the area around Gyeongsang National University in Jinju City, which was recently established in a local small and medium city, was targeted. For the analysis, satisfaction survey by practical usage behavior and street space characteristics of Cultural Street, and expert FGI were conducted. As a result of the usage behavior survey, the usage patterns were different for each usage class, which means that the cultural street space creation, theme setting, event theme selection, etc. should be made based on the usage group setting and usage pattern analysis. As a result of the satisfaction survey conducted with this, satisfaction was high in terms of walking and access convenience, while satisfaction was evaluated low in terms of street characteristics and publicity. In relation to spatial characteristics, factor analysis was conducted and classified into symbolism, aesthetics, interchangeability, convenience, and culturality. As a result of diagnosing volraero cultural street by classification criteria, exchangeability was evaluated high, whereas symbolism, culturality, and convenience were evaluated lower than similar cases, and aesthetics were evaluated as normal. Based on the research results, implications for each of the five criteria are as follows. In terms of symbolism and aesthetics, it is necessary to select a representative theme rather than a variety of themes through a detailed survey of users, and to install symbolic sculptures that consider the surrounding landscape, and to construct a space. In terms of exchangeability, it is necessary to adjust the movement of photo zones for the purpose of using Cultural Street and separate movements such as event spaces in order to enhance convenience and increase satisfaction. In terms of convenience, parking spaces only for cultural street users should be secured to induce external inflow. Lastly, in terms of cultural characteristics, festivals and events are often similar across the country, so it is necessary to discover and research resources that represent the region so that they can be differentiated with unique characteristics.

The Socioeconomic Burden of Coronary Heart Disease in Korea

        Chang, Hoo-Sun,Kim, Han-Joong,Nam, Chung-Mo,Lim, Seung-Ji,Jang, Young-Hwa,Kim, Se-Ra,Kang, Hye-Young The Korean Society for Preventive Medicine 2012 Journal of Preventive Medicine and Public Health Vol.45 No.5

Objectives: We aimed to estimate the annual socioeconomic burden of coronary heart disease (CHD) in Korea in 2005, using the National Health Insurance (NHI) claims data. Methods: A prevalence-based, top-down, cost-of-treatment method was used to assess the direct and indirect costs of CHD (International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision codes of I20-I25), angina pectoris (I20), and myocardial infarction (MI, I21-I23) from a societal perspective. Results: Estimated national spending on CHD in 2005 was $2.52 billion. The majority of the spending was attributable to medical costs (53.3%), followed by productivity loss due to morbidity and premature death (33.6%), transportation (8.1%), and informal caregiver costs (4.9%). While medical cost was the predominant cost attribute in treating angina (74.3% of the total cost), premature death was the largest cost attribute for patients with MI (66.9%). Annual per-capita cost of treating MI, excluding premature death cost, was $3183, which is about 2 times higher than the cost for angina ($1556). Conclusions: The total insurance-covered medical cost ($1.13 billion) of CHD accounted for approximately 6.02% of the total annual NHI expenditure. These findings suggest that the current burden of CHD on society is tremendous and that more effective prevention strategies are required in Korea.

Sustainability of Korean National Health Insurance

강명신,Hoo Sun Jang,이민지,박은철 대한의학회 2012 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.27 No.-

Korean National Health Insurance (NHI) was established during only 12 yr from its inception (1977-1989), providing universal medical coverage to the entire nation and making a huge contribution to medical security. However, the program now faces many challenges in terms of sustainability. The low birth rates, aging population, low economic growth, and escalating demands for welfare, as well as unification issues, all add pressure to the sustainability of NHI. The old paradigm of low contribution - low benefits coverage - low NHI’s fee schedule needs to be replaced by a new paradigm of proper contribution -adequate benefit coverage - fair NHI’s fee schedule. This new paradigm will require reform of NHI’s operating system, funding, and spending.

대학 창업 지원 사업의 문제점 및 개선방안

        허선영(Sun-Young Heo),장후은(Hoo-Eun Jang),이종호(Jong-Ho Lee) 한국산학기술학회 2017 한국산학기술학회논문지 Vol.18 No.1

The prolonged economic slowdown has forced many youths to opt for starting a business instead of seeking employment. Universities have shown their interest in startup training by opening startup courses and encouraging relevant student communities, while at the same time helping their students land a job. Along with this, the government has been implementing various policies through creative economy and youth startup initiatives, but the resulting quantitative growth has not been supported by a commensurate level of qualitative growth and this has created problems on the supplier side, such as by producing redundant functions and roles in multiple projects and inefficient investment. This study, which aims at proposing a direction towards more active support and thus helping the government achieve qualitative accomplishments that can match its effort in terms of quantitative growth, analyzes the current status of startup support of universities in Korea by examining the data regarding training programs and projects, and highlights the issues stemming from startup organizations in colleges. It also suggests solutions for improving in-college startup training and establishing an interlinked system among the relevant bodies in and out of college, with the hope that the results and alternatives proposed in this study will be utilized as the basis for more active student startup support activities.
