We developed a new approach to analyze the feasibility and benefits of biomass utilization strategies for energy production. To achieve this goal, we first generated a biomass-to-energy network which consists of different conversion technologies and corresponding compounds. We then developed new optimization models using a mixed integer linear programming technique to identify the optimal and alternative strategies and point out their major cost drivers. We applied these models to the biomass-derived energy supply problem on Jeju Island, Korea, to answer a wide range questions related to biomass utilization. What is the cheapest way to produce liquid fuels from available biomass on Jeju Island? How much demand can be satisfied by biomass-derived liquid fuels? What combination of technologies and biomass resources gives the best economic benefits or productivity? Based on the case study of Jeju Island, we could provide useful guidelines to policy-makers and stakeholders in the energy business.
림프구 증식증과 유사한 형태로 말단 회장부와 대장을 침범한 만성 림프구성 백혈병 1예

Follicular lymphoid hyperplasia is commonly seen when performing pediatric endoscopy. But in adults, these findings can imply an underlying gastrointestinal or systemic illness, besides the normal variant. On the other hand, colonic involvement of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is seen in about 5% to 20% of autopsy cases. However, there have been few reports on the colonoscopic appearance that corresponds to colonic involvement by CLL, and the reported colonoscopic appearances have included polyps, ulcers, granularity, submucosal nodules, erythema, the red ring sign etc. We report here on a case of CLL neoplastic lymphocyte involvement of the terminal ileum and colon as a form of lymphoid hyperplasia, and this was seen when performing colonoscopy. 만성 림프구성 백혈병의 대장 침범은 사체부검에 의한 연구에 의하면 약 5∼20% 정도이다. 그러나 실제 침범된 대장의 내시경 소견이 보고된 경우는 드물며 용종, 궤양, 과립상, 점막하 결절, 발적, red ring sign 등의 소견들이 보고된 바 있다. 한편 림프구 증식증은 림프계 이외의 조직에 주로 림프구가 침윤하는 것으로 소아에서는 비교적 흔히 발견되고 건강한 성인에서도 발견될 수 있으며 내시경적으로 작은 무경성 용종이나 적색 반점 등으로 관찰된다. 최근 저자들은 내시경 소견상 림프구 증식증과 유사한 형태로 만성 임파구성 백혈병이 말단 회장부 및 대장을 침범한 증례를 경험하여 보고한다.
친환경 수처리 기술을 이용한 하천 및 원수 수질 개선 연구

In this study, the use of an infiltration constructed wetland (ICW) as an eco-friendly water treatment technology for improving the quality of raw water and river water was evaluated using a full-scale test-bed built in the upper reaches of the old Seung-chon weir river channel. The average removal efficiency for the biochemical oxygen demand, suspended solids, and total phosphorus over three years was 86.8%, 96.6%, and 83.1%, respectively. However, the removal efficiency for total organic carbon and total nitrogen was relatively low, which is thought to be due to the characteristics of the influent. The general water quality constituents (BOD, SS, T-N and T-P) were not significantly different in winter when the water temperature was lower, indicating that stable water treatment over all four seasons was possible. In addition, biopolymers, humic substances, and building blocks of influent (Yeongsanriver) were able to be removed, illustrating that ICWs can be used as an effective eco-friendly water treatment technology to improve the quality of raw and river water. The removal efficiency for heavy metals, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals varied greatly, suggesting that further research is required to identify the main factors that affect there moval efficiency of ICWs. .
