This study deals with the ferromagnetic shims design based on the spherical harmonic coefficient reduction method. The designmethod using the sequential search method is an intuitive method and has the advantage of quickly reaching the optimal result. Thestudy was conducted for a 400 MHz all-REBCO magnet, which had difficulty in shimming due to the problem of SCF (screeningcurrent induced field). The initial field homogeneity of the magnet was measured to be 233.76 ppm at 20 mm DSV (DiameterSpherical Volume). In order to improve the field homogeneity of the magnet, the ferromagnetic shim with a thickness of 1 mil to11 mil was constructed by a design method in which sequential search algorithm was applied. As a result, the field homogeneityof the magnet could be significantly improved to 0.24 ppm at 20 mm DSV and 0.05 ppm at 10 mm DSV.

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) and Mn-doped TiO2 (Mn(x)-TiO2) were synthesized in a sol-gel method and characterized by BET surface area analysis, X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Gasphase elemental mercury (Hg0) oxidation and capture by the Mn-doped TiO2 catalyst was studied in the simulated flue gas in a fixed-bed reactor. The investigation of the influence of Mn loading, flue gas components (SO2, NO, O2, and H2O) showed that the Hg0 capture capability of Mn(x)-TiO2 was much higher than that of pure TiO2. The addition of Mn inhibits the grain growth of TiO2 and improves the porous structure parameters of Mn(x)-TiO2. Excellent Hg0 oxidation performance was observed with the catalyst with 10% of Mn loading ratio and 97% of Hg0 oxidation was achieved under the test condition (120 oC, N2/6%O2). The presence of O2 and NO had positive effect on the Hg0 removal efficiency, while mercury capture capacity was reduced in the presence of SO2 and H2O. XPS spectra results reveal that the mercury is mainly present in its oxidized form (HgO) in the spent catalyst and Mn4+ doped on the surface of TiO2 is partially converted into Mn3+ which indicates Mn and the lattice oxygen are involved in Hg0 oxidation reactions.

Hydrogen Peroxide produced by Two Amino Acid Oxidases Mediates Antibacterial Actions

The antibacterial actions of two amino acid oxidases, a D-amino acid oxidase from hog kidney and a L-amino acid oxidase from the venom of Agkistrodon halys, were investigated, demonstrating that both enzymes were able to inhibit the growth of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and that hydrogen peroxide, a product of their enzymatic reactions, was the antibacterial factor. However, hydrogen peroxide generated in the enzymatic reactions was not sufficient to explain the degree to which bacterial growth was inhibited. A fluorescence labeling assay showed that both of these two enzymes could bind to the surfaces of bacteria. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report regarding the antibacterial activity of the D-amino acid oxidases.
ESG Performance, Economic Policy Uncertainty, and Labor Investment Efficiency

This study investigates the relation between firms’ environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance and their labor investment efficiency, where labor investment efficiency is measured by the extent to which labor investment deviates from the level justified by the economic fundamentals of the firms. Using a sample of 6,291 Korean firms from 2011 to 2019, we find that firms with better ESG performance invest more efficiently in human capital, especially by less under-firing and less under-hiring. The role of ESG practices in improving labor investment efficiency is more evident during periods of high economic policy uncertainty. In addition, the relation is more pronounced for firms not affiliated with business conglomerates (i.e., chaebols), for firms operating in less human capital-intensive industries, and in periods under progressive governments. Our findings are robust to the two-stage least squares (2SLS) analyses using foreign investor ownership as an instrument as well as other robustness tests. In summary, our results imply that firms prioritizing ESG factors in their decision-making processes are better able to invest efficiently in their workforce by making more timely and effective employment decisions.

Purpose Mismatch repair (MMR) deficiency plays a critical role in rectal cancer. This study aimed to explore the associations between genetic variations in seven MMR genes and adverse events (AEs) and survival of patients with rectal cancer treated with postoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT). Materials and Methods Fifty single nucleotide polymorphisms in seven MMR (MLH1, MLH3, MSH2, MSH3, MSH6, PMS1 and PMS2) genes were genotyped by Sequenom MassARRAY method in 365 patients with locally advanced rectal cancer receiving postoperative CRT. The associations between genotypes and AEs were measured by odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) by unconditional logistic regression model. The associations between genetic variations and survival were computed by the hazard ratios and 95% CIs by Cox proportional regression model. Results The most common grade ! 2 AEs in those 365 patients, in decreasing order, were diarrhea (44.1%), leukopenia (29.6%), and dermatitis (18.9%). Except 38 cases missing, 61 patients (18.7%) died during the follow-up period. We found MSH3 rs12513549, rs33013, and rs6151627 significantly associated with the risk of grade ! 2 diarrhea. PMS1 rs1233255 had an impact on the occurrence of grade ! 2 dermatitis. Meanwhile, PMS1 rs4920657, rs5743030, and rs5743100 were associated with overall survival time of rectal cancer. Conclusion These results suggest that MSH3 and PMS1 polymorphisms may play important roles in AEs prediction and prognosis of rectal cancer patients receiving postoperative CRT, which can be potential genetic biomarkers for rectal cancer personalized treatment.

Background and Purpose The impact of the occurrence while sleeping of first unprovoked seizure (FUS) on seizure recurrence in people with FUS is currently unclear. This uncertainty makes it challenging for physicians to determine whether to apply antiseizure medications (ASMs) to people with FUS while sleeping (FUS-S). This study aimed to determine the impact of the occurrence while sleeping of FUS. Methods We searched the MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus electronic databases. Among retrieved studies, we selected those that provided information on the number of people with FUS, and relapsed people among these in each instance of FUS-S and FUS when waking (FUS-W). We used a random-effects model for meta-analyses. Results Of the 3,582 identified studies, 13 were eligible for systematic review. Seven of these 13 studies were deemed adequate for inclusion in a meta-analysis since they provided information at the time point of 2 years follow-up after FUS. The seven studies were of high quality regarding their risk of bias. When combining these 7 studies, the total sample comprised 1,659 people, of which 626 had FUS-S and 1,033 had FUS-W. The relative risk of seizure recurrence between FUS-S and FUS-W was 1.627. The seizure recurrence rates (SRRs) were 59.8% and 36.5% in the FUS-S and FUS-W groups, respectively. Conclusions We verified that the SRR was higher among people with FUS-S than FUS-W. After 2 years of follow-up, the SRR in people with FUS-S was about 60%. It is preferable to initiate an ASM for people with FUS-S.
