<P>Traditional Chinese medicines have attracted increasing interest as potential sources of novel drugs with a wide range of biological and pharmacological activities. Annona glabra Linn (Annonaceae) is used in traditional medicine as an anticancer drug. Phytochemical investigation of this plant led to the isolation of acetogenins, ent-kauranes, peptides, and alkaloids. In addition, compounds exhibited anticancer, anti-HIV-reserve, and antimalaria.</P>
Raman spectroscopy of Cu doping in Zn<sub>1−x</sub>Co<sub>x</sub>O diluted magnetic semiconductor

<P>The room-temperature ferromagnetism and the Raman spectroscopy of the Cu-doped Zn<SUB>1−x</SUB>Co<SUB>x</SUB>O powders prepared by the sol–gel method are reported. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) data confirmed that the wurtzite structure of ZnO is maintained for ZnO doped with Co below 10 at%. The magnetization–field curves measured at room temperature demonstrated that all Co-doped ZnO powders were paramagnetic. Ferromagnetic ordering is observed for the samples doped with Cu in Zn<SUB>0.98</SUB>Co<SUB>0.02</SUB>O and strongly depends on the concentration of Cu. The relative strength of the second-order LO peak to the first-order one in the Raman spectra, which is related to the carrier concentration, of the Cu-doped Zn<SUB>0.98</SUB>Co<SUB>0.02</SUB>O powder is strongly correlated with the saturation magnetic moment of the system. This seems to be in favor of the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY) or double exchange mechanism of the ferromagnetism in this system. Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are a group of neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by ritualistic- repetitive behaviors and impaired verbal and non-verbal communication. Boys are more likely to be diagnosed with ASD than girls. Genetics have been shown to play a key role in the etiology of autism. Many genes were found to be implicated in the inheritance of idiopathic autism. Analysis of mutation abnormalities associated with autism contributes significantly to the identification of autism candidate genes. Whole-exome sequencing has been shown as an application of the next generation sequencing technology used to determine the variations of all coding regions, or exons of the known genes. In the present study, we have found two novel heterozygous missense mutations (p.L111P and p.R3048C) on the RYR3 gene, which was located in the autism susceptibility region (15q14-q15) in a 9-year-old boy with ASD. Therefore, the sequence missense mutations provide the first suggestive link between a genetic abnormality in the RYR3 gene and a neurodevelopmental disorder.

In this paper, a new approach for the improvement of accuracy in DEMs (Digital Elevation Models) was proposed. While algorithms such as bilinear, bicubic, Kriging, and the HNN (Hopfield neural network) model can enhance the accuracy of DEMs, especially those derived from global data sources such as SRTM, ASTER, etc., the inclusion of additional elevation data can further improve the accuracy of the DEM. In this paper, a newly proposed resolution enhancing HNN model with the incorporation of elevation adjustment functions and variations in constraint conditions was developed and evaluated. The evaluation of the model was mplemented in Cao Bang using SRTM 30m DEM data in a 1650m × 1344m area, with 130 elevation points used for accuracy enhancement and 64 points used for evaluation. The test results show an increase in accuracy of up to 40% in terms of both roots mean square error and mean absolute error when the additional elevation points were used. It has also been discovered that a zoom factor of 4 provides the best optimization in terms of balancing accuracy and computing cost for the newly proposed HNN downscaling algorithm. The results indicate that the model has the potential to be applied in practice to enhance the accuracy of DEMs, especially global DEMs after additional evaluation.
Chemical constituents of Trichosanthes kirilowii and their cytotoxic activities

One new lignan, trichobenzolignan (1), and seven known compounds, ligballinol (2), (-)-pinoresinol (3), ehletianol C (4), luteolin 7-O-b-D-glucopyranoside (5), chrysoeriol-7- O-b-D-glucopyranoside (6), 10a-cucurbita5,24-dien-3b-ol (7), and arvenin I (8). Their structures were established on the basis of spectral and chemical evidence, which were in agreement with those reported in literature. The cytotoxic activities of these compounds were evaluated on four cancer cell lines such as A-549 (human lung cancer), HT-29 (human colon adenocarcinoma), OVCAR (human ovarian carcinoma), and MCF-7 (human breast cancer). As the results, compound 7 showed significant activity on HT-29 and OVCAR cancer cell lines with IC50 of 4.1 and 6.5 lM, respectively. Compounds 1, 5, 6, and 8 exhibited moderate activities in all cancer cell lines with IC50 ranging from 11.3 to 42.8 lM.

The purpose of this study is to examine the determinants of intention to borrow consumer credit of Vietnamese people by applying the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and extending it with several variables, including anxiety, perceived trust, and perceived financial costs extracted and adapted from the existing literature. A questionnaire survey was administered in the big cities of Vietnam to a total of 602 consumers. Structural equation modeling (SEM) techniques have been employed to investigate the relationship among intention determinants to borrow. Findings show that perceived usefulness mediates the impact of subjective norms on the intention to borrow consumer credit. At the same time, subjective norms also directly influence the intention to borrow. Notably, anxiety, perceived trust, perceived financial cost, perceived ease of use have no significant influence on intention to borrow. Meanwhile, education level is confirmed to have a moderate influence on intention to borrow consumer credit of Vietnamese people. However, there is not enough statistical evidence about the influence of gender and marital status on the intention to borrow consumer credit in Vietnam. Based on the findings of the Vietnamese consumer credit market, we proposed some suggestions to promote the growth of the market in the future.
Establish Cultivation by Mixing Crops of Different Strains of Eucheuma and Kappaphycus Species

Species Kappaphycus alvarezii (Doty) Doty, Kappaphycus striatum (Schmitz.) Doty and Eucheuma denticulatum (N. L. Burman) Collins et Harvey, which was brought to Vietnam from Japan in 1993 and Coco island, Martan Sea, Cebu, Philippines in 2005 have been cultivated in the different coasts of South Central Vietnam. Their growth rates and physical properties of carrageenan, then, were analyzed. The obtained results showed that the growth rate of E. denticulatum and K. striatum strains is higher than those of K. alvarezii. Species of K. striatum could grow over wide range of temperature and tolerate more strongly to high temperature compared with K. alvarezii, but their content and gel strength of kappa-carrageenan were almost the same and high. For purpose of the Kappahycus cultivation farms with stable and high production all year round (especially in the seawaters of shallow, semi-closed Lagoons where the water movement is not good and with high temperature in the hot season), mixed cropping of K. alvarezii and K. striatum as seeds stock during different cropping seasons was established. Our results suggested that K. alvarezii and K. striatum could be grown in the cool season (from Oct. to next March) with the same and high content and gel strength of kappa - carrageenan, but in the hot season need to chose K. striatum for cultivation only (from Apr. to Sept.).
Alpha-Glucosidase Inhibitory Activity of Saponins Isolated from Vernonia gratiosa Hance

Species belonging to the Vernonia (Asteraceae), the largest genus in the tribe Vernonieae (consisting of about 1,000 species), are widely used in food and medicine. These plants are rich sources of bioactive sesquiterpene lactones and steroid saponins, likely including many as yet undiscovered chemical components. A phytochemical investigation resulted in the separation of three new stigmastane-type steroidal saponins (1 – 3), designated as vernogratiosides A–C, from whole plants of V. gratiosa. Their structures were elucidated based on infrared spectroscopy (IR), one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (2D NMR), high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS), and electronic circular dichroism analyses (ECD), as well as chemical reactivity. Molecular docking analysis of representative saponins with αglucosidase inhibitory activity was performed. Additionally, the intended substances were tested for their ability to inhibit α-glucosidase activity in a laboratory setting. The results suggested that stigmastane-type steroidal saponins from V. gratiosa are promising candidate antidiabetic agents.

Little is known about antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (GNB) intestinal carriage among healthcare workers (HCWs) in Vietnam. All HCWs at a tertiary intensive care units were asked to undertake weekly rectal swabs. Among 40 participants, 65% (26/40) carried extended spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL)/AmpC β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli. Two HCWs colonized with ESBL/AmpC β-lactamase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae. One HCW colonized with Acinetobacter baumannii. No one carried Pseudomonas spp.. A quarter (10/40) of HCWs were identified as persistent and frequent carriers. There is an urgent need to screen antibiotic-resistant GNB among HCWs and improve HCWs’ hand hygiene compliance to reduce the transmission of antibiotic-resistant GNB in the hospital.
