<P>Although Hsp90 inhibitors can inhibit multiple tumorigenic pathways in cancer cells, their anticancer activity has been disappointingly modest. However, by forcing Hsp90 inhibitors into the mitochondria with mitochondrial delivery vehicles, they were converted into potent drugs targeting the mitochondrial Hsp90 paralog TRAP1. Here, to improve mitochondrial drug accumulation without using the mitochondrial delivery vehicle, we increased freely available drug concentrations in the cytoplasm by reducing the binding of the drugs to the abundant cytoplasmic Hsp90. After analyzing X-ray cocrystal structures, the purine ring of the Hsp90 inhibitor 2 (BIIB021) was modified to pyrazolopyrimidine scaffolds. One pyrazolopyrimidine, 12b (DN401), bound better to TRAP1 than to Hsp90, inactivated the mitochondrial TRAP1 in vivo, and it exhibited potent anticancer activity. Therefore, the rationale and feasible guidelines for developing 12b can potentially be exploited to design a potent TRAP1 inhibitor.</P>
Nanoimprinting of perovskite layer for light-harvesting effect in photovoltaic devices

A light-harvesting effect was successfully achieved in photovoltaic devices by the structuring of an active perovskite layerthrough nanoimprinting. This was done by transforming a commercial CD-R pattern into a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)film. The latter was then used for replicating the perovskite layers under increased pressures and temperatures. The Young’smodulus of the PDMS film was regulated by the mixing ratio of the base and curing agents, and the average height of thepattern was reported for an optimal 5:1 base-to-curing agent ratio. Under these conditions, the replication efficiency reached80% at a pressure of ~ 4.9 kPa. To investigate the manner in which the structuring of these patterned perovskite layersaffects optoelectronic devices, we incorporated them into photovoltaic cells. This resulted in improved J–V characteristics,as observed from an increase in both fill factor (FF) and short circuit current density (Jsc), from 73.20 to 76.35% and from12.853 to 15.532 mA cm−2, respectively. The increase in FF was attributed to a large contact area between the perovskiteand electron transport layers, while the increase in Jsc was due to the enhanced light-trapping of the periodic grating patternsof the perovskite layer.

Intensity modulated photovoltage spectroscopy (IMVS) analysis of organic solar cells (OSCs) with a bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) film composed of P3HT and PC61BM was performed. The dynamic response of charge recombination by the postannealing approach in P3HT/PC61BM BHJ solar cells characterized by IMVS demonstrated that post-annealing reduced the recombination of electron carriers in the device. The recombination times of P3HT/PC61BM BHJ solar cells postannealed at room temperature, 80, 120, and 140 oC were 0.009, 0.020, 0.024, and 0.030 ms, respectively, at a short-circuit current of 0.18 mA. A Study on the Development of CVD Precursors VI-Thermal Properties of Co(III) β-Diketonates

Thermal properties of a series of Co β-diketonates have been systematically investigated and it is found that tris(3,5-heptanedionato)cobalt(III) (Co(hd)3) with the lowest melting point among them can be a better precursor than tris(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionato cobalt(III) (Co(tmhd)3), one of the most popular precursors to date, under suitable conditions. Isothermal TGA study shows that Co(hd)3 would work better at higher temperature, while Co(dmhd)3 would be a better precursor at lower temperature.
Interaction Effects of Domestic Claims and Organic Claims on Willingness to Pay for Food2)

Using the data from the Consumer Behavior Survey for Food in Korea, this study examines whether domestic claims positively or negatively interact with organic claims in willingness to pay for food. Regression results support the hypothesis that domestic claims enhance willingness to pay for organic claims and vice versa. The positive interaction between domestic and organic claims is robust across food categories, including unprocessed food, processed food, food away from home, and school lunch.

Si surface texturing generally requires an etching process to improve the anti-reflection and the self-cleaning properties of the surface. Among the various etching techniques for surface texturing, the wet etching method has been widely adopted as a relatively simple and inexpensive manufacturing method. In this study, we report the effects of hierarchical pyramid-structured Si with nanoholes formed using a chemical wet etching process with thermally dewetted Ag thin films. First, alkaline etching was performed on a Si wafer to fabricate micrometer-sized random pyramid structures. Then, Ag thin film was thermally grown on the pyramid-structured Si. Finally, nanopores were formed on the random pyramid structure via metal-assisted chemical etching. The final morphology of Si was a hierarchical random pyramid structure with nanoholes, exhibiting both anti-reflection and superhydrophobicity. The average reflectance decreased to ~4%, and the contact angle increased to 170.5°, allowing these surfaces to be used in various wettability-controlled optoelectronic devices, such as Si solar cells for where light trapping and self-cleaning are essential.

<P>The mitochondrial pool of Hsp90 and its mitochondrial paralogue, TRAP1, suppresses cell death and reprograms energy metabolism in cancer cells; therefore, Hsp90 and TRAP1 have been suggested as target proteins for anticancer drug development. Here, we report that the actual target protein in cancer cell mitochondria is TRAP1, and current Hsp90 inhibitors cannot effectively inactivate TRAP1 because of their insufficient accumulation in the mitochondria. To develop mitochondrial TRAP1 inhibitors, we determined the crystal structures of human TRAP1 complexed with Hsp90 inhibitors. The isopropyl amine of the Hsp90 inhibitor PU-H71 was replaced with the mitochondria-targeting moiety triphenylphosphonium to produce SMTIN-P01. SMTIN-P01 showed a different mode of action from the nontargeted PU-H71, as well as much improved cytotoxicity to cancer cells. In addition, we determined the structure of a TRAP1–adenylyl-imidodiphosphate (AMP-PNP) complex. Primary liver tumor, especially hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is a common cause of cancer death worldwide. The incidence is generally higher in Asian countries than in western countries. Carcinogenesis of HCC is often associated with hepatitis viral infections. Current standard treatment of HCC is surgical resection or transplantation in patients with early stage disease. However, the patient with advanced stage disease, surgical resection is often limited. Sorafenib or other treatment modalities are not so effective as well. We report a case of unusual radiation super-sensitivity in advanced stage HCC, and review the literature.
