        온라인 초등영어 수업의 방향: 온라인 영어 수업에 관한 초등학습자들의 인식도 조사

        코로나로 인하여 학교에서는 본격적인 온라인 수업에 돌입하게 되었고, 이에 교육계에서는 많은 혼란을 겪게 되었다. 특히 상호작용 활동이 배제된 상황에서 영어 교과의 경우 그 특성상 교사와 학생들은 많은 어려움에 직면하게 되었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 온라인 영어 수업에 대한 초등학습자들의 인식을 파악함으로써 온라인 영어 수업의 실태와 개선점을 알아보고, 바람직한 온라인 영어 수업의 방안을 고찰해보고자 하였다. 이 연구에서는 강원도의 N초등학교에 재학 중인 초등학생 4~6학년 268명이 참여하였으며, 연구 도구로는 온라인 설문지가 사용되었다. 설문지는 온라인 수업 및 수업구성과 활동의 선호도, 온라인 영어 수업에 대한 만족도 및 난이도로 구성되었다. 결과는 자모비 통계 프로그램을 활용하여 양적으로 분석되었으며 연구 결과를 바탕으로 초등학습자들의 온라인 영어 수업에 대한 인식은 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있다. 첫째, 초등학습자들은 온라인 영어수업보다 대면 영어 수업을 훨씬 더 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 초등학습자들이 온라인 영어 수업에서 선호하는 수업 구성은 영어 교사가 자체 제작한 수업 영상이었으며, 활동은 게임 활동으로 수업이 진행되는 것이었다. 셋째, 온라인 영어 수업 자체에서는 수업 구성 측면에서 대체로 만족하였으나, 난이도 측면에서는 ‘대체로 쉬웠다.’고 답하면서 적절하지 않다고 답하였다. 넷째. 성별 및 학년에 따른 온라인 영어 수업 만족도 및 난이도 차이에서는 유의미한 차이가 보이지 않았던 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 온라인 영어 수업을 직접 수강하는 학습자의 관점을 반영하므로 미래의 감염병 상황에 대비하여 온라인 수업을 설계하는 데에 중요한 자료가 될 것으로 기대된다. 아울러 영어 교과에서는 비대면이라는 한계를 극복하여 수업 효과를 극대화하며 양질의 온라인 수업을 확보하기 위한 교육 당국 및 관계자들의 많은 노력이 뒷받침되어야 할 것이다. As COVID-19 made remote learning a new norm, every party involved has been going through trial and error in its implementation. To improve the situation calls for more scholarly research. The purpose of this study is to investigate primary students’ perceptions on online English education and thereby to identify better approaches to this new mode of English learning. As for the methodology, researchers surveyed 266 students between grades four and six in N elementary school located in Gangwon Province. The survey was conducted online and consisted of questions concerning satisfaction levels and difficulty levels in online English education, and preference between online and face-to-face learning. For the data analysis, the Jamovi statistical program was used to administer the frequency and descriptive analysis, Independent Samples t-test as well as One-Way ANOVA. The finding are as follows: First, the survey takers far preferred face-to-face English learning to the online counterpart. Second, between the video instructions given by their own English teachers and those from outside sources, primary students preferred the former; and their favorite class activity was playing games. Third, they were generally satisfied with online English learning as such but found it not difficult enough, not with difficulty levels. Forth, the personal variables of gender and grade did not make a significant difference in satisfaction and difficulty levels in online English education. It is expected that these findings, as representing the views of learners themselves, will serve as an important resource for coping with the infectious disease-caused challenges of the present and the future. The study could also clearly remind English teachers that they need to make every effort to give high-quality instructions even in the difficult reality of remote learning.

      • Effects of Culture Condition on Conidia Production of Sweetpotato Whitefly Pathogenic Fungus Isaria javanica

        Sweetpotato whitefly (Bemisia tabaci), especially Q biotype, has been recognized one of the most destructive insect pests worldwide because of increased resistance to some insecticide groups requiring alternative strategies for its control. We studied the conidia production of entomopathogenic fungus Isaria javanica Pf04, which had been reported high virulence isolate against Q biotype of B. tabaci, using grain. Brown rice was most suitable for conidia mass production of the isolate of I. javanica. Conidia was produced high at 25 ~ 27.5℃. The isolate produced more spores when conidia suspension directly inoculated onto media than two-phase fermentation. When concentration of inoculum was high spore production was high, but increasing rate of conidia production was highest at low inoculum concentration (1×105 conidia/ml) as 6,700 times increase compared with 20 times increase at high inoculum concentration (1×108 conidia/ml). These results indicated that the isolate can produce more conidia with cheap agricultural product and can develop as a microbial pesticide to control sweetpotato whitefly.

        구두 연습을 활용한 쓰기 전 활동에 대한 초등학습자들의 인식도 조사

        이 논문의 목적은 초등학교에서 영어가 외국어인 학생들을 대상으로 사전 쓰기 전략으로써 구두 연습 활용의 효과를 탐구하는 것이다. 구체적으로 쓰기와 말하기의 통합 지도를 통하여 구두 연습이 영어 쓰기에 어떠한 영향을 줄 수 있는가를 알아보았다. 이를 위하여 구두 연습이 초등학교 6학년 학생들의 쓰기 능력(단어, 어구, 문장, 자유 글쓰기)과 정의적 영역에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 양적 연구를 활용하였다. 실험은 강원도 소재 초등학교에 재학 중인 43명의 6학년 학생들을 대상으로 하였고, 실험집단은 21명, 통제집단은 22명으로 구성되었다. 실험집단 학생들은 쓰기 전 활동으로 구두 연습을 수행하였으며, 통제집단에서는 교과서 절차에 따른 쓰기 전 활동을 실시하였다. 12주 간의 실험연구 이후 실험 결과는 다음과 같이 나타났다. 구두 연습을 활용한 실험집단 학생들은 영어 단어, 어구, 문장, 자유 글쓰기 능력에서 통제집단에 비하여 통계적으로 유의미한 효과가 있었다. 또한 영어 쓰기에 대한 흥미도, 동기도, 불안감에서도 긍정적인 영향을 주었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이 연구에서는 영어 표현기능을 총체적으로 학습하는 방안을 통하여 초등학교 교실에서 영어 쓰기 지도의 효과적인 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 유의미한 결과를 토대로 초등 교실에서 언어적 기능의 통합적 지도 방안에 대한 추후 연구가 이루어져야 할 것이다. The purpose of this paper is to explore the effectiveness of using oral rehearsal as a pre-writing strategy in EFL classrooms. This study discusses the concept of oral rehearsal and its benefits in EFL classrooms, to develop students’ writing skills. Oral rehearsal involves an integrated approach between speaking and writing skills, with students speaking prior to writing. In this research, subjects consisted of 43 students from the 6th-grade classes located in Gangwon province, with 21 students in the experimental group and 22 in the control group. The treatment group employed oral rehearsal as a pre-writing strategy, while the control group utilized brainstorming before writing. The findings revealed that the experimental group scored significantly higher on writing tests compared to the control group, indicating the effectiveness of oral rehearsal. In addition, the experimental group reported higher levels of interest and motivation, with less anxiety toward English writing than the control group after the experiment. In conclusion, the integrated technique of oral rehearsal can be a valuable tool for EFL students to enhance their writing skills. Further research is recommended to explore the pedagogical implications of oral rehearsal in language classrooms.

        저소득층 가정 아동의 읽기 유창성 중재 효과

        The study investigated the effects of reading intervention to enhance reading fluency for children from low-income families. The participants were 20 children from low-income families who are in grades 1 to 3. To qualify for participation in this study, all children had to score below 30 % ile on the Receptive vocabulary Test of the Expressive and Receptive Vocabulary Test or the Word reading fluency of the Korean Language-Based Reading Assessment. Participants were randomly assigned to the intervention (n=10) or control (n=10) group. The intervention group participated in the individualized intervention program using the guided repeated reading and the corrective feedback strategies. The results showed that participants in the intervention group performed better on reading fluency than those in the control group after participating in the intervention program. Specifically, guided repeated reading with corrective feedback strategies produced significant improvement on generalization to unpracticed passages as well as practiced passages. The results of this study suggest that guided repeated reading with corrective feedback is effective for enhancing reading fluency for children in Korea. Further study is needed in order to develop language-specific reading intervention.

      • The Need and Possibility of Learner-Based Credit System

        Currently, Korean credit system in Universities is based on lecture hours per week by each subject, but this credit system has a couple of problems. First, it doesn``t recognize the student workload required to complete all learning activities such as attending lectures, private study, preparation of projects and taking examination by each learner to complete a subject. Second, in spite of the same subject name and credit, there can be a wide variation in learning workload according to the instructional design and assessment method. Third, in this credit system, it is hard to ensure that the quality of the program, because credits aren``t express clear information concerning the level, volume and outcomes of learning. To solve these problems, it should be improved to a learner-based credit system on the basis of workload and learning outcome. This article will explore the need and possibility to implement the learning-based credit system ECTS to Korean universities. We will identify through simple interviews how big the workload gap is among multiple courses with the same credits, and examine the difference from actual credits when converted to the current ECTS. Furthermore, we will examine other issues of the current credit system in Korea, and explore whether it would be possible to implement the learning-based credit system in Korean universities by suggesting required studies for the future.

        SOCS3 Attenuates Dexamethasone-Induced M2 Polarization by Down-Regulation of GILZ via ROS- and p38 MAPK-Dependent Pathways

        Suppressors of cytokine signaling (SOCS) have emerged as potential regulators of macrophage function. We have investigated mechanisms of SOCS3 action on type 2 macrophage (M2) differentiation induced by glucocorticoid using human monocytic cell lines and mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages. Treatment of THP1 monocytic cells with dexamethasone (Dex) induced ROS generation and M2 polarization promoting IL-10 and TGF-β production, while suppressing IL-1β, TNF-α and IL-6 production. SOCS3 over-expression reduced, whereas SOCS3 ablation enhanced IL-10 and TGF-β induction with concomitant regulation of ROS. As a mediator of M2 differentiation, glucocorticoid-induced leucine zipper (GILZ) was down-regulated by SOCS3 and up-regulated by shSOCS3. The induction of GILZ and IL-10 by Dex was dependent on ROS and p38 MAPK activity. Importantly, GILZ ablation led to the inhibition of ROS generation and anti-inflammatory cytokine induction by Dex. Moreover, GILZ knock-down negated the up-regulation of IL-10 production induced by shSOCS3 transduction. Our data suggest that SOCS3 targets ROS- and p38-dependent GILZ expression to suppress Dex-induced M2 polarization.

      • Primary Plasma Cell Leukemia Associated with t(6;14)(p21;q32) and IGH Rearrangement: A Case Study and Review of the Literature.

        <P>Because plasma cell leukemia (PCL) is a rare and distinct variant among plasma cell dyscrasias, recent clinical and cytogenetic studies have been performed in different ethnic groups to define the characteristics of these PCL patients. As far as we know, IGH rearrangements involving t(11;14) and (14;16) are significantly more frequent in PCL than in myeloma patients. However, PCL cases associated with t(6;14)(p21;q32) or IGH-CCND3 rearrangement are extremely rare in the literature; only one PCL case with t(6;14) has been documented. A 61-year-old female was admitted due to fatigue, weight loss, and exertional dyspnea. Plasmacytoid cells were counted up to 76% at a peripheral blood film, but bone marrow aspiration failed because of dry-tapping. Flow cytometric analysis showed positive for CD138 and cytoplasmic kappa light chain. Chromosome analysis revealed t(6;14)(p21;q32), which was confirmed by an IGH split-out probe in FISH analysis. Immunofixation electrophoresis also presented monoclonal bands identified as IgG and kappa light chain. Finally, she was diagnosed as primary PCL associated with t(6;14) and IGH rearrangement. Although considerable advances have been made in the understanding of the biology and molecular pathogenesis of PCL, further clinical, laboratory, and genetic studies of PCL associated with such a rare IGH rearrangement would be necessary in the future. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of PCL associated with t(6;14) as a sole chromosomal abnormality.</P>
