It is necessary to manage room pressure strictly in order to prevent air flowing from outside for maintenance of products quality in clean rooms. A local exhaust system is installed in a special environment in which poisonous substances are handled to prevent the contamination. The reversal of pressure is not allowed under any situation as for such the special environment while usual air-conditioning operation is done. However, it is difficult to express room pressure changes of the air-conditioning system because present simulators do not have functions for expression of presser propagation. In this research, a dynamic simulator of pressure control with MATLAB is expanded in order to adapt to the more large-scale actual air-conditioning system. In addition, actual problems of the room pressure changes can be simulated successfully.

Limnological charactersistics of the lakes located in a heavy snowy area, Niigata, Japan, were considered from the viewpoint of lake water circulation with its effects on zoobenthos fauna and the life cycle of an emergent macrophyte, Menyanthes trifoliata L. The lack of spring overturn caused deficiency of hypolimnion dissolved oxygen concentrations from winter to fall overturn. Dominance of chaoborid larvae in the profundal zone observed in all lakes studied is due to the monomictic character of these lakes. The length of a life cycle of M. trifoliata in heavy snowy area is shorted by delayed snowmelt in spring and the rates of its flowering have a significant correlation with the maximum snowpack.

Angiopoietin-1 (Ang1) binds to and activates Tie2 receptor tyrosine kinase. Ang1-Tie2 signal has been proposed to exhibit two opposite roles in the controlling blood vessels. One is vascular stabilization and the other is vascular angiogenesis. There has been no answer to the question as to how Tie2 induces two opposite responses to the same ligand. Our group and Dr. Alitalo’s group have demonstrated that trans-associated Tie2 at cell-cell contacts and extracellular matrix (ECM)-anchored Tie2 play distinct roles in the endothelial cells. The complex formation depends on the presence or absence of cell-cell adhesion. Here, we review how Ang1-Tie2 signal regulates vascular maintenance and angiogenesis. We further point to the unanswered questions that must be clarified to extend our knowledge of vascular biology and to progress basic knowledge to the treatment of the diseases in which Ang1-Tie2-mediated signal is central. OBJECTIVES: Annually reported, publically accessible Diagnosis Procedure Combination (DPC) data from the Japanese government is a part of the total DPC database of the Japanese medical reimbursement system for hospitalization. Although medical issues can be evaluated with these data promptly, the applicability of these data in epidemiological analyses has not been assessed. METHODS: We performed analyses using only statistical indices reported on the a government website. As a preliminary step, the prefectural consistency of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH) was examined with prefectural mortality over 20 years. Then the prefectural incidence of sICH for four years was calculated, utilizing publically accessible DPC data. To determine its reliability, the consistency was examined, and correlations were analyzed with three prefectural factors expected to have an effect: the elderly rate, mortality due to sICH, and the non-DPC bed rate. In addition, a comparison model between prefectures with this method was developed by analyzing other prefecture-specific factors. RESULTS: Prefectural mortality due to sICH and prefectural sICH incidence in the DPC database were both consistent over the years. Prefectural sICH incidence had a constant positive correlation with the elderly rate, a partial correlation with mortality due to sICH, but no correlation with the non-DPC bed rate, which is one of the major biases when utilizing the DPC database. In the comparison model, the factors of low income and alcohol consumption showed increased sICH incidence. CONCLUSIONS: Although careful attention to its limitations is required, publically accessible DPC data will provide insights into epidemiological issues.
Microsotructure Designed Porous Apatite Ceramics Prepared by Hydrothermal Method

Microsotructure designed porous ceramics of calcium hydroxyapatite $(Ca_{10}(PO_4)_6(OH)_2)$ were prepared by hydrothermal method. The particle size, shape, and the micro-pore size of the porous hydroxyapatite ceramics could becontrolled. The hydroxyapatite was non-stoichiometric apatite with calcium deficient compositions (Ca/P ratio < 1.67). The composition of non-stoichiometric hydroxyapatite ceramics could be controlled from 1.50 to 1.63 in Ca/P ratio. The hydroxyapatite ceramics preparedc at $105^{\circ}C$ under the saturated vapor pressure for 20h were composed of rod-shaped crystals with about 10$\mu\textrm{m}$ in length with the mean aspect ratio of 40. The porous ceramics of calcium deficient hydroxyapatite had about 45% porosity with the inter-connecting pore structure. Porous hydroxyapatite ceramics prepared hydrothermally had the compressive strength of about 10 to 30 MPa. In addition, porous ceramics of $\beta$-tricalcium phosphate ($\beta-Ca_3(PO_4)_2$) were prepared from the calcium deficient hydroxyapatite.

Background: Adjuvant androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is a treatment option for prostate cancer (PC) patients after radical prostatectomy (RP). Although it can achieve a good progression-free survival rate, some patients still develop clinical metastasis. We here investigated risk factors of clinical metastasis in post-prostatectomy patients who received immediate adjuvant ADT. Materials and Methods: We identified 197 patients with non-metastatic PC who underwent RP at our institution between 2000 and 2012, followed by adjuvant ADT. The associations of various clinicopathologic factors with clinical metastasis (primary endpoint) and cancer-specific survival (secondary endpoint) were assessed. Multivariate analysis was conducted using a Cox proportional hazards model. Median follow-up was 87 months after RP. Results: Nine (4.6%) patients developed clinical metastasis and six (3.0%) died from PC. Eight of nine metastatic patients had a pathologic Gleason score (GS) 9 and developed bone metastasis, while the remaining one had pathologic GS 7 and developed metastasis only to para-aortic lymph nodes. On multivariate analyses, pathologic GS ${\geq}9$ and regional lymph node metastasis (pN1) were independent predictors of clinical metastasis and pathologic GS ${\geq}9$ was an independent predictor of cancer-specific death. Conclusions: Pathologic GS ${\geq}9$ and pN1 were independent predictors of clinical metastasis in post-prostatectomy patients who received immediate adjuvant ADT. Furthermore, pathologic GS ${\geq}9$ was an indispensable condition for bone metastasis, which may imply that patients with GS ${\leq}8$ on adjuvant ADT are unlikely to develop bone metastasis.
