Prevalence of Eosinophilic Esophagitis in Adult Patients with Upper Gastrointestinal Symptoms in a Locality in Upper Egypt

        Magdy Fouad,Yasser Mahrous Fouad,Hamdy Ahmed Mokareb,Dalia Mohammed Abdel-Rehim 대한소화기내시경학회 2018 Clinical Endoscopy Vol.51 No.4

Background/Aims: Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is gaining importance in the diagnosis of upper gastrointestinal (UGI) symptoms. Diagnosis is based on the clinical presentation of esophageal dysfunction and pathological findings in the absence of other causes oftissue eosinophilia. Our study was designed to evaluate EoE prevalence in patients with UGI symptoms in our locality (El-Minia, Egypt). Methods: This single-center, cross-sectional study recruited all patients with UGI symptoms who agreed for endoscopic evaluation. Esophageal biopsy samples were obtained and histological evaluation for the presence of eosinophils was performed for every patient. EoE was defined when at least 15 eosinophils were present in a single high-power field, in the absence of other causes of esophagealeosinophilia. Results: Between 2013 and 2015, 218 of 476 adult patients with UGI symptoms underwent upper endoscopy after giving consent. Amongthe 218 patients, only 4 (1.87%) had the diagnosis of EoE based on the presence of eosinophils in esophageal biopsies and exclusion ofother causes of esophageal eosinophilia. Three patients with EoE presented mainly with dysphagia (75%) and/or other UGI symptoms, such as heartburn. Conclusions: We observed a low prevalence of EoE in our locality. The diagnosis of EoE should be considered in patients withdysphagia and/or heartburn.

Stability and dynamic analyses of SW-CNT reinforced concrete beam resting on elastic-foundation

        Fouad Bourada,Abdelmoumen Anis Bousahla,Abdeldjebbar Tounsi,E.A. Adda Bedia,S.R. Mahmoud,Kouider Halim Benrahou,Abdelouahed Tounsi 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2020 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.25 No.6

This paper, presents the dynamic and stability analysis of the simply supported single walled Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNT) reinforced concrete beam on elastic-foundation using an integral first-order shear deformation beam theory. The condition of the zero shear-stress on the free surfaces of the beam is ensured by the introduction of the shear correction factors. The SWCNT reinforcement is considered to be uniform and variable according to the X, O and V forms through the thickness of the concrete beam. The effective properties of the reinforced concrete beam are calculated by employing the rule of mixture. The analytical solutions of the buckling and free vibrational behaviors are derived via Hamilton’s principle and Navier method. The analytical results of the critical buckling loads and frequency parameters of the SWCNT-RC beam are presented in the form of explicit tables and graphs. Also the diverse parameters influencing the dynamic and stability behaviors of the reinforced concrete beam are discussed in detail.

The Effect of a High Temperature Superconducting Patch on a Rectangular Microstrip Antenna

        Fouad Chebbara,Mounir Amir,Tarek Fortaki 대한전기학회 2009 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.4 No.2

The complex resonant frequency problem of a superconductor patch is formulated in terms of an integral equation which is the kernel of a dyadic Green’s function. To include the effect of the superconductivity of the microstrip patch, the surface complex impedance of the superconductor film is introduced using the two fluids model of Gorter and Casimir. The Galerkin procedure is used in the resolution of the electric field integral equation. Numerical results concerning the effect of the operating temperature of a superconductor patch on the characteristics of the antenna are presented.

The synergistic effects of five essential oils and eight chiral compounds on deltamethrin-piperonyl butoxide insecticide against Sitophilus zeamais (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

Fouad Hany A.,da Camara Claudio A.G.,de Moraes Marcilio M.,de Melo João P.R. 한국응용곤충학회 2023 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.26 No.2

Sitophilus zeamais is a major cause of damage to corn and its preventive control is performed with DeltamethrinPiperonyl Butoxide (deltamethrin-PBO). However, due to the intensive use of conventional insecticides, the population of S. zeamais has developed resistance to nearly all classes of insecticides. In order to establish new control practices through the reduction of the use of conventional insecticides for management of S. zeamais, the present study was to evaluate the insecticidal activities and synergistic interaction between five essential oils, as well as six chiral constituents with deltamethrin-PBO used in the preventive control of S. zeamais. The chemical analysis revealed a high percentage of monoterpenes in the oils investigated. Limonene was the major compo nent found in the oils from Citrus aurantifolia and C. reticulata. Citronellal, terpinen-4-ol and menthol were the major constituents in the oils from Eucalyptus citriodora, Melaleuca alternifolia and Mentha piperita, respectively. Oil from M. alternifolia exhibited greater toxicity. Among chiral constituents, (R)-(+)-Limonene, (1R,5R)-(+)-α-pinene and (1S,5S)-(-)-α-pinene were the most toxic against the pest. Binary mixtures prepared with synthetic insecticide and oils exhibited two synergistic interactions. Mixtures prepared with deltamethrin-PBO and (R)-(+)-limonene showed one synergistic interaction. These results are promising, particularly the Citrus oils and its main constituent, (R)-(+)-limonene, which increased the mortality of S. zeamais by 56.41; 43.58 and 35.89 %, respectively. The present findings suggest that the impacts on the environment and human health with the indiscriminate use of deltamethrin-PBO can be minimized with the preparation of a formulation of this insecticide combined with Citrus oils.

Distribution of Agrobacterium tumefaciens Biovars in Jordan and Variation of Virulence

        Fouad Al-Momani,Sami Albasheer,Ismail Saadoun 한국식물병리학회 2006 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.22 No.4

recovered from 68 samples (51 plant tumor and 17 soil) that were collected from different habitats in Northern Jordan. The isolated cultures were grouped into 3 biovars based on their biochemical characteristics and biovar I, II, and III comprised a total number of 46, 41, and 22 isolates, respectively. Isolates of biovar I were obtained primarily from the diseased peach, oak and rose plants, whereas isolates of biovar II and III were obtained mostly from apple and grape plants, respectively. Twenty-nine isolates were found to be virulent to at least one of the tested hosts such as carrots, chickpeas, garden peas and tomato plants with a response of tumor formation or tumor with roots induction. Our result suggested that A. tumefaciens strains from tumor of various plants and soil of Jordan were diverse and they have a variation in their virulence.

Influence of axial load and loading path on the performance of R.C. bridge piers

Fouad Kehila,Hakim Bechtoula,Djillali Benaouar 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2015 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.15 No.4

Piers are the most vulnerable part of a bridge structure during an earthquake event. During Kobe earthquake in 1995, several bridge piers of the Hanshin Expressway collapsed for more than 600m of the bridge length. In this paper, the most important results of an experimental and analytical investigation of ten reinforced concrete bridge piers specimens with the same cross section subjected to constant axial (or variable) load and reversed (or one direction) cycling loading are presented. The objective was to investigate the main parameters influencing the seismic performance of reinforced concrete bridge piers. It was found that loading history and axial load intensity had a great influence on the performance of piers, especially concerning strength and stiffness degradation as well as the energy dissipation. Controlling these parameters is one of the keys for an ideal seismic performance for a given structure during an eventual seismic event. Numerical models for the tested specimens were developed and analyzed using SeismoStruct software. The analytical results show reasonable agreement with the experimental ones. The analysis not only correctly predicted the stiffness, load, and deformation at the peak, but also captured the post-peak softening as well. The analytical results showed that, in all cases, the ratio, experimental peak strength to the analytical one, was greater than 0.95.

Buckling analysis of isotropic and orthotropic plates using a novel four variable refined plate theory

Fouad Bourada,Khaled Amara,Abdelouahed Tounsi 국제구조공학회 2016 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.21 No.6

The current research presents a buckling analysis of isotropic and orthotropic plates by proposing a new four variable refined plate theory. Contrary to the existing higher order shear deformation theories (HSDT) and the first shear deformation theory (FSDT), the proposed model uses a new displacement field which incorporates undetermined integral terms and involves only four variables. The governing equations for buckling analysis are deduced by utilizing the principle of virtual works. The analytical solution of a simply supported rectangular plate under the axial loading has been determined via the Navier method. Numerical investigations are performed by using the proposed model and the obtained results are compared with CPT solutions, FSDT solutions, and the existing exact solutions in the literature. It can be concluded that the developed four variable refined plate theory, which does not use shear correction coefficient, is not only simple but also comparable to the FSDT.

Estimation of L-threonine requirements for Longyan laying ducks

        Fouad, A.M.,Zhang, H.X.,Chen, W.,Xia, W.G.,Ruan, D.,Wang, S.,Zheng, C.T. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2017 Animal Bioscience Vol.30 No.2

Objective: A study was conducted to test six threonine (Thr) levels (0.39%, 0.44%, 0.49%, 0.54%, 0.59%, and 0.64%) to estimate the optimal dietary Thr requirements for Longyan laying ducks from 17 to 45 wk of age. Methods: Nine hundred Longyan ducks aged 17 wk were assigned randomly to the six dietary treatments, where each treatment comprised six replicate pens with 25 ducks per pen. Results: Increasing the Thr level enhanced egg production, egg weight, egg mass, and the feed conversion ratio (FCR) (linearly or quadratically; p<0.05). The Haugh unit score, yolk color, albumen height, and the weight, percentage, thickness, and breaking strength of the eggshell did not response to increases in the Thr levels, but the albumen weight and its proportion increased significantly (p<0.05), whereas the yolk weight and its proportion decreased significantly as the Thr levels increased. Conclusion: According to a regression model, the optimal Thr requirement for egg production, egg mass, and FCR in Longyan ducks is 0.57%, while 0.58% is the optimal level for egg weight from 17 to 45 wk of age.

Nutritional Factors Affecting Abdominal Fat Deposition in Poultry: A Review

Fouad, A.M.,El-Senousey, H.K. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2014 Animal Bioscience Vol.27 No.7

The major goals of the poultry industry are to increase the carcass yield and to reduce carcass fatness, mainly the abdominal fat pad. The increase in poultry meat consumption has guided the selection process toward fast-growing broilers with a reduced feed conversion ratio. Intensive selection has led to great improvements in economic traits such as body weight gain, feed efficiency, and breast yield to meet the demands of consumers, but modern commercial chickens exhibit excessive fat accumulation in the abdomen area. However, dietary composition and feeding strategies may offer practical and efficient solutions for reducing body fat deposition in modern poultry strains. Thus, the regulation of lipid metabolism to reduce the abdominal fat content based on dietary composition and feeding strategy, as well as elucidating their effects on the key enzymes associated with lipid metabolism, could facilitate the production of lean meat and help to understand the fat-lowering effects of diet and different feeding strategies.
