Lost in Translation: la notion de deficit en traduction
( Fortunato Israel ) 한국통역번역학회 2004 FORUM Vol.2 No.2
This article challenges the traditional view that something is always lost in translation. First, it investigates its so-called shortcomings generally ascribed not only to linguistic and cultural differences but also to the fact that translation always ranks second and eventually becomes outmoded while the original text is unaffected by the passage of time. Then it goes on to show that these are not essential features of the translating process but the result of basic misconceptions about the nature and function of translation. To overcome such weaknesses, it advocates the use of a creative textual approach based on the interpretive model developed at E.S.I.T.
Hydrogen and proton exchange membrane fuel cells for clean road transportation
Fortunato Migliardini,Pasquale Corbo,Ottorino Veneri 한국공업화학회 2011 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.17 No.3
In this paper the main issues related to the working of hydrogen fuel cells and their utilization in the transportation field are presented and discussed, starting from the experimental analysis of dynamic performance of a laboratory fuel cell system based on a 20 kWe H_2/air proton exchange membrane stack. The experiments were carried out on successive load steps characterized by low reactant relative pressures (15–50 kPa) and stack temperature of 310–350 K. The effect of air flow rate, hydrogen purge and membrane humidification strategy on stack output voltage was evaluated evidencing the role of different sub-systems in stack management (for reactant feeding, stack cooling, membrane humidification) and their effect on efficiency losses of the overall system. The results presented in this paper provide experimental indications about potentialities of hydrogen fuel cell systems as clean electric energy generators for automotive applications.
Self-Heating Effects in p-Channel Polysilicon TFTs Fabricated on Different Substrates
G. Fortunato,M. Cuscuna,P. Gaucci,L. Maiolo,L. Mariucci,A. Pecora,A. Valletta,F. Templier 한국물리학회 2009 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.54 No.1
The self-heating-related instability was studied in p-channel polysilicon TFTs fabricated on glass, stainless steel (SS) and polyimide (PI) substrates. We found that while the devices fabricated on glass and PI presented substantial device degradation when operated in the self-heating region, the devices fabricated on SS were very stable when bias stressed under similar conditions. From extensive analysis of the phenomenon through numerical simulations, we found that the device degradation could be reproduced perfectly by interface state generation and uniform positive charge injection into the gate oxide along the channel. Additional defects, located in narrow (100 nm) regions at the gate edges, were also introduced to fully reproduce the apparent field effect mobility enhancement. In order to explain the role of the substrate on the stability, we analyzed three different structures by using 3-dimensional numerical simulations, coupling the thermodynamic and the transport models. The results from the simulations clearly demonstrate that devices fabricated on SS operate at much lower temperatures, thus explaining the observed better stability.

The asymmetric fingered structure for polysilicon thin-film transistors (AF-TFTs) is analysed in detail by combining experimental characteristics and two-dimensional numerical simulations. This structure allows an effective reduction of the kink effect and off-current, without introducing any additional series resistance. In addition, a substantial improvement in the device stability is also observed when compared to conventional TFT. The AF-TFT characteristics have been explained by considering a two transistor model.
Sports Leagues’ Game Exposure Policies: Economic and Legal Complexities
John A. Fortunato 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2018 Journal of Global Sport Management Vol. No.
Sports leagues have developed an economic business model where they sell national media rights on behalf of all of the teams and the teams sell media rights in their home territory without competition. To protects a home team's territory, leagues blackout some games in certain geographic regions. Recent policies include blacking out local team's games on league-wide satellite and Internet-based digital media packages. To obtain access to most of a local team's games fans, thus, need to purchase a subscription to a regional sports network. These territorial arrangements that restrict game exposure have been construed by some as anticompetitive, leading to limited choice and increased prices for consumers. Sports leagues contend these restrictions are necessary to protect individual team broadcast revenue and ensure competitive balance. The recent Laumann v. NHL and Garber v. MLB lawsuits questioned whether leagues broadcast policies were more harmful or beneficial to consumers and if assigning exclusive regional broadcast territories violated United States antitrust laws.
Business-to-business sponsorship opportunities: Examining UPS’s functional congruence with the NCAA
John A. Fortunato 한국마케팅과학회 2016 마케팅과학연구 Vol.26 No.1
Business-to-business themed sponsorships can be powerful marketing platforms, giving companies the ability to demonstrate and communicate their performance capabilities. Having a functional congruence, when the sponsor has a participatory role in the event, is a unique advantage for some sponsors. Demonstrating a functional congruence addresses a critical distinction between business-tobusiness and business-to-consumer marketing approaches identified in the literature, with business-to-business buying decisions more focused on brand reliability. This article examines how United Parcel Service (UPS) executes its business-to-business themed, functional congruence sponsorship with the NCAA. It focuses on the logistical services that UPS performs in putting on the NCAA college basketball tournament. This cooperative indirect customer marketing approach shows how UPS uses the popularity of the NCAA Tournament to communicate its brand theme and brand capabilities. A case study of an actual business-to-business themed sponsorship provides a practical example that makes the overall understanding of businessto- business marketing more complete.

In 2017, the NCAA convened the Commission on College Basketball after an FBI investigation found that apparel companies were bribing high school basketball players to attend certain universities. This event became a crisis eruption point for an organization confronted with a history of scandals and the concern that “big money” in collegiate athletics contributes to an environment conducive to cheating. The Commission was designed to make recommendations to help ensure the integrity and strengthen the institutional accountability within college basketball. This crisis featured two contextual factors: the institution of college basketball with its many stakeholder groups was threatened, and fans who receive emotional satisfaction through sports possibly willing to overlook a sports organization’s transgressions to continue experiencing the games that they enjoy. The NCAA forming the Commission on College Basketball and implementing new policies can be viewed as a corrective action crisis response with the aim of maintaining the institution of college basketball, and in doing so serves as an exercise in its own reputation management.
