The arsH gene is one of the arsenic resistance system in bacteria and eukaryotes. The ArsH protein was annotated as a NADPH-dependent flavin mononucleotide (FMN) reductase with unknown biological function. Here we report for the first time that the ArsH protein showed high ferric reductase activity. Glu104 was an essential residue for maintaining the stability of the FMN cofactor. The ArsH protein may perform an important role for cytosolic ferric iron assimilation in vivo.

Purpose – The purpose of our study is to provide an understanding of the relationships among consumer attention to social comparison information (ATSCI), consumer ethnocentrism (CET), national identity (NI), and consumer purchase intention to domestic brands (PIDB). Drawing on the social comparison theory (SCT) and social identity theory (SIT), we developed a model that is empirically testable and explains consumer behavior of domestic brands and products. Research design, data, and methodology – The conceptual framework was tested with primary data collected through a survey in China. Structural equation modeling was employed to test hypotheses. Results – The results from empirical analyses indicated that the ATSCI positively influenced CET and NI, and CET and NI affect consumer PIDB. In addition, the mediating effects of CET and NI on the relationship between ATSCI and PIDB were identified. Nonetheless, little direct impact of ATSCI on PIDB was reported. Conclusions – We suggested that international marketers use given information to attract consumer attention and develop appropriate promotions, especially for Chinese young generations that would pay much attention to social comparison information in their purchase decisions. Our study originally connected one socio-psychological antecedent, ATSCI, with CET and NI and estimated the relationships among the three antecedents and their effects on PIDB in order to predict consumer behavior in China.

Alternating-current-driven ZnO-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with an Au/ZnMgO/ZnO/ZnMgO/GaN/In structure have been fabricated. Both polarity-controlled electroluminescence (EL) and ultraviolet emission were achieved when driven by an alternating current (AC) under a much lower root-mean-square voltage than that of conventional inorganic AC thin-film electroluminescent devices. This ZnO-based LED can be regarded as a series incorporating a metal-insulator-semiconductor diode and a p-i-n diode. The EL mechanisms were discussed in terms of the band diagrams and carrier transport behavior with reference to the semiconductor heterojunction theory.

본 연구는 재무분석가가 기업의 국제회계기준도입으로 인한 공정가치회계 채택에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가에 대해 실증분석하였다. 다수의 선행연구들은 공정가치회계 정보의 가치관련성에 초점을 맞추어 연구를 진행하였으며, 최근에는 재무분석가의 기업에 대한 외부감시자의 역할과 재무구조적 역할 수행에 관한 연구가 많이 이루어지고 있다. Chen et al.(2013)은 재무분석가는 기업의 재무제표를 정기적으로 추적하고 기업의 이익발표 컨퍼런스콜에 직접 참여하여 경영자에게 질문을 제기하는 등 기업의 경영자와 직접 소통하는 등 직접적으로 기업경영과 재무보고를 모니터링 하면서 재무구조적 역할을 수행하고 있다고 제시하였다. 이러한 선행 연구들을 바탕으로 기업의 국제적인 회계 신인도 제고를 도모하기 위한 공정가치회계 채택에 재무분석가가 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 검증하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 2001년부터 2017년까지 기업에 대해 이익 예측치를 발표한 재무분석가가 존재하는 기업과 유가증권 상장기업을 대상으로 FnGuide Data Guide Pro, 금융감독원 전자공시시스템에서 추출한 자료를 사용하여 실증 분석하였다. 분석결과, 기업에 대해 이익 예측치를 발표하는 재무분석가의 수가 증가할수록 기업의 공정가치회계 채택 가능성은 높아지는 것으로 나타나 본문의 가설을 지지하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 재무분석가의 기업에 대한 외부감시자와 재무구조적 역할 수행의 또 다른 증거를 제시하면서 선행연구들에 추가적인 공헌점을 줄 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. This study is an empirical study on the relationship between financial analysts and adoption of firm’s fair value accounting in accordance with the introduction of international accounting standards. Particularly, this study examines how financial analysts affect the adoption of fair value accounting to enhance a company's international accounting credibility. The financial analyst's activities used the number of financial analysts who published the firm's earnings forecast for the previous year, and the firm's adoption of fair value accounting was measured as the amount of change in the firm's other comprehensive income between the current year and the previous year. This study targets companies with financial analysts who announced earnings forecasts for companies from 2001 to 2017 and companies listed in securities. As a result of the analysis, as the number of financial analysts presenting earnings forecasts for a firm increase, the likelihood of companies adopting fair value accounting increases, which supports the hypothesis in the text. The results of this study expand the previous studies while presenting another evidence of the financial analyst's performance of the external monitor and the governance role.

The linear-stability analyses of thermocapillary flow in an annular two-layer system subjected to a radial temperature gradient were conducted. The annular pool with upper free surface and adiabatic bottom is filled with immiscible double layer liquid of 5cSt silicone oil / HT-70. The outer wall of the annular pool is heated and inner wall is cooled. The results indicate that the critical Marangoni number decreases with the increase of aspect ratio and radius ratio. The effect of the ratio of the lower liquid thickness to the total double layer thickness on the convection onset is complicated. The minimum critical Marangoni number is located near the thickness ratio of 0.125. Moreover, there is one Hopf bifurcation from the steady to oscillatory flow when the thickness ratio varies from 0.625 to 0.75. At the same time, two types of flow destabilizing mechanism are identified. Comparing with the results with upper rigid wall, it can be found that the stability of thermocapillary convection in annular two-layer system with the free surface reduces largely.
The effect of Zn(2+) on Pelodiscus sinensis creatine kinase: unfolding and aggregation studies.

<P>We studied the effects of Zn(2+) on creatine kinase from the Chinese soft-shelled turtle, Pelodiscus sinensis (PSCK). Zn(2+) inactivated the activity of PSCK (IC(50)?=?.079??.004?mM) following first-order kinetics consistent with multiple phases. The spectrofluorimetry results showed that Zn(2+) induced significant tertiary structural changes of PSCK with exposure to hydrophobic surfaces and that Zn(2+) directly induced PSCK aggregation. The addition of osmolytes such as glycine, proline, and liquaemin successfully blocked PSCK aggregation, recovering the conformation and activity of PSCK. We measured the ORF gene sequence of PSCK by rapid amplification of cDNA end and simulated the 3D structure of PSCK. The results of molecular dynamics simulations showed that eight Zn(2+) bind to PSCK and one Zn(2+) is predicted to bind in a plausible active site of creatine and ATP. The interaction of Zn(2+) with the active site could mostly block the activity of PSCK. Our study provides important insight into the action of Zn(2+) on PSCK as well as more insights into the PSCK folding and ligand-binding mechanisms, which could provide important insight into the metabolic enzymes of P. sinensis.</P>

Angelica sinensis (AS, Danggui in Chinese) is an important herbal component of various traditional formulae for the management of asthenia and its tonic effects. Although AS has been shown to ameliorate cognitive damage and nerve toxicity in D-galactose (D-gal)-elicited senescent mice brain, its effects on liver and kidney injury have not yet been explored. In this work, mice were subjected to hypodermic injection with D-gal (200 mg/kg) and orally gavaged with AS (20, 40, or 80 mg/kg) once a day for 8 successive weeks. Results revealed that AS significantly improved liver and kidney function as assessed by organ index and functional parameters. In addition, AS pretreatment effectively ameliorated the histological deterioration. AS attenuated the MDA level and markedly enhanced the activities and gene expressions of antioxidative enzymes, namely Cu, Zn-SOD, CAT, and GPx. Furthermore, AS markedly inhibited the D-gal-mediated increment of expressions of inflammatory cytokines iNOS, COX-2, IκBα, p-IκBα, and p65 and promoted the IκBα expression level in both hepatic and renal tissues. In sum, AS pretreatment could effectively guard the liver and kidney of mice from D-gal-induced injury, and the underlying mechanism was deemed to be intimately related to attenuating oxidative response and inflammatory stress.
