Does anaesthesia in mothers during delivery affect bilirubin levels in their neonates?

El-Kabbany, Zeinab A,Toaima, Nadin N,Toaima, Tamer N,EL-Din, Mona Y Gamal The Korean Pediatric Society 2017 Clinical and Experimental Pediatrics (CEP) Vol.60 No.12

Purpose: This study aimed to assess whether different anesthetic techniques and oxytocin use applied during delivery affect transcutaneous bilirubin levels during the first 24 hours in neonates. Methods: A total of 1,044 neonates delivered by either caesarian section (C/S) or normal vaginal delivery (NVD) were included in the study. They were classified into 5 groups as follows: group 1: born by C/S using general anesthesia, group 2: C/S using spinal anaesthesia, group 3: C/S using general anesthesia after failed spinal block, group 4: by NVD without anesthesia, and group 5: oxytocin-induced vaginal delivery without anesthesia. Transcutaneous total bilirubin levels (TBLs) were measured during the first 24 hours and on the fifth and eighth days of life and the levels in different groups were compared. Results: The TBLs were significantly higher in neonates delivered by C/S using general anesthesia rather than spinal anesthesia (P<0.001), and both groups had higher levels than those born by NVD without anesthesia ($P{\leq}0.001$). However, the group receiving general anesthesia after failed spinal block was found to have the highest bilirubin level. Moreover, TBLs were significantly higher with the use of oxytocin ($P{\leq}0.001$). Conclusions: C/S and general anesthesia adversely affect the bilirubin levels in neonates, and the use of oxytocin during vaginal delivery also increases TBLs in neonates.

      • An Examination of Travel Motivation and the Influential Factors of Mainland Chinese Grey Tourism Market

Tamer Hamdy Abd El Latif Ayad 세계문화관광학회 2020 International Journal of Culture and tourism Resea Vol.13 No.1

Grey tourism market is important to the tourism industry. The seniors travelers are traveling more frequently, going longer distances, staying away longer, spending more money. China is unique in its aging trend, more than 30% of the Chinese population is expected to be aged 60 or older in 2050. The primary objectives of this study were to determine the travel motivations of mainland Chinese seniors travelers and to discover what variables are influential in explaining the variances of the motivations. Using factor analysis, the knowledge-seeking factor and cleanliness & safety factor appeared to be the most important push and pull motivations, respectively. Subsequent regression analysis indicated that health status and positive and negative emotional state of seniors significantly contribute to accounting for the travel motivations of mainland Chinese seniors.

Exact vibration of Timoshenko beam combined with multiple mass spring sub-systems

        Tamer A. El-Sayed,Said H. Farghaly 국제구조공학회 2016 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.57 No.6

This paper deals with the analysis of the natural frequencies, mode shapes of an axially loaded beam system carrying ends consisting of non-concentrated tip masses and three spring-two mass subsystems. The influence of system design and sub-system parameters on the combined system characteristics is the major part of this investigation. The effect of material properties, rotary inertia and shear deformation of the beam system is included. The end masses are elastically supported against rotation and translation at an offset point from the point of attachment. Sub-systems are attached to center of gravity eccentric points out of the beam span. The boundary conditions of the ordinary differential equation governing the lateral deflections and slope due to bending of the beam system including developed shear force frequency dependent terms, due to the sub–system suspension, have been formulated. Exact formulae for the modal frequencies and the modal shapes have been derived. Based on these formulae, detailed parametric studies are carried out. The geometrical and mechanical parameters of the system under study have been presented in non-dimensional analysis. The applied mathematical model is presented to cover wide range of mechanical, naval and structural engineering applications.

A Neglected Markedly Displaced Medial Epicondyle Fracture with Simultaneous Ulnar Nerve Palsy in an Adolescent

Tamer Ahmed EL-Sobky,John Fathy Haleem,Hossam Moussa Sakr,Ahmad Saeed Aly 대한정형외과학회 2017 Clinics in Orthopedic Surgery Vol.9 No.4

Humeral medial epicondyle fractures constitute around 15% of pediatric elbow fractures. Up to 60% occur in association with elbow dislocations. Knowledge of potential imaging pitfalls when examining acute elbow fractures in children contributes significantly to accurate diagnosis. Nevertheless, management of missed pediatric medial epicondyle fractures has rarely been reported. We present an 11-year-old boy with a neglected and severely displaced medial epicondyle fracture with concurrent ulnar nerve palsy. We performed neural decompression, fragment excision, and muscular and capsuloligamentous reconstruction of the medial elbow. This study demonstrates that the surgical outcome of a late presenting fracture can be satisfactory in terms of function and neural recovery. It also underscores the importance of careful interpretation of elbow imaging including normal anatomic variants.

Formulae for the frequency equations of beam-column system carrying a fluid storage tank

        Tamer A. El-Sayed,Said H. Farghaly 국제구조공학회 2020 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.73 No.1

In this work, a mathematical model of beam-column system carrying a double eccentric end mass system is investigated, and solved analytically based on the exact solution analysis. The model considers the case in which the double eccentric end mass is a rigid storage tank containing fluid. Both Timoshenko and Bernoulli-Euler beam bending theories are considered. Equation of motion, general solution and boundary conditions for the present system model are developed and presented in dimensional and non-dimensional format. Several important non-dimensional design parameters are introduced. Symbolic and/or explicit formulae of the frequency and mode shape equations are formulated. To the authors knowledge, the present reduced closed form symbolic and explicit frequency equations have not appeared in literature. For different applications, the results are validated using commercial finite element package, namely ANSYS. The beam-column system investigated in this paper is significant for many engineering applications, especially, in mechanical and structural systems.

Electrochemical Microbiosensor for Detecting COVID-19 in a Patient Sample Based on Gold Microcuboids Pattern

        Waleed A. El-Said,Abdullah S. Al‐Bogami,Wael Alshitari,Deia A. El-Hady,Tamer S. Saleh,Mohamed A. El-Mokhtar,최정우 한국바이오칩학회 2021 BioChip Journal Vol.15 No.3

As continues increasing the COVID-19 infections, there is an urgent need for developing fast, simple, selective, and accurate COVID-19 biosensors. A highly uniform gold (Au) microcuboid pattern was used as a microelectrode that allowed monitoring a small analyte. The electrochemical biosensor was used to monitor the COVID-19 S protein within a concentration range from 100 to 5 pmol L −1 ; it showed a lower detection limit of 276 fmol L −1 . Finally, the developed COVID-19 sensor was used to detect a positive sample from a human patient obtained through a nasal swab; the results were confirmed using the PCR technique. The results showed that the SWV technique showed high sensitivity towards detecting COVID-19 and good efficiency for detecting COVID-19 in a positive human sample.

Structural Behavior of Ultra-High Strength Concrete Columns Reinforced with Basalt Bars Under Axial Loading

        Taha A. El-Sayed,Kareem S. Abdallah,Hossam E. Ahmed,Tamer H. El-Afandy 한국콘크리트학회 2023 International Journal of Concrete Structures and M Vol.17 No.6

The axial compressive behavior of Ultra-High Strength Concrete (UHPC) columns reinforced with basalt bars was investigated in this work. Only a few research projects have used basalt Reinforced Concrete Columns. Under axial stress, 12 columns of 150 × 150 mm in cross section and 1200 mm in height manufactured of M120 grade UHPC, incorporating glass powder lime powder, were tested. The primary characteristics investigated in this study were axial load capacity, axial deformation, failure pattern, ductility, and stiffness. The findings of the experimental tests revealed that the ultimate loads and behavior of UHPCC reinforced with BFRP were superior to concrete columns strengthened with steel reinforcement. When compared to steel RC columns, basalt RC columns carry about 90% of the axial load. Moreover, the BFRP bar tensile strength was 2.5 greater than reinforcing steel yield strength and 1.79 times larger than that of bar. The Ansys software-based analytical analysis assisted in predicting the eventual carrying capacity of UHPC columns. The agreement among the experimental and NLFE ultimate load is around 92.2%, with a standard deviation of 0.005 and a coefficient of variation of 0.00002. The nonlinear BFRP–UHPC columns’ structural performance was adequately predicted by the finite element analysis. In addition, equations are employed to forecast the strength of confined concrete. Equation 4 merely produced improved forecasts, it aids in comparing the outcomes of analytical and experimental tests. Results of this study indicated that the UHPC-columns reinforced with BFRP bars offer potential economic and environmental advantages as compared to traditional RC columns.

Zinc(II) modified carbon paste electrodes based on self-assembled mercapto compounds-gold-nanoparticles for its determination in water samples

        Tamer Awad Ali,E.M.S. Azzam,M.A. Hegazy,A.F.M. El-Farargy,Ali A. Abd-Elaal 한국공업화학회 2014 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.20 No.5

In the present study newly developed potentiometric sensors for determination of zinc(II) are presented. The proposed potentiometric method was based on the fabrication of modified carbon paste (MCPE; electrode X) and modified gold nanoparticles-carbon paste (GNPs-CPE; electrode IX) sensors. A mercapto compound of 1,4-bis(5-mercaptopentyloxy)-benzene (BMPB) alone or self-assembled on gold nanoparticles was used as modifier to construct electrode (X) and electrode (IX) sensors, respectively. The prepared electrodes exhibit Nernstian slope of 29.93 ± 0.4 and 26.0 ± 1.02 mV decade-1 towards Zn(II) ion over a wide concentration range of 6.8 × 10-10 to 2.9 × 10-2 and 1.0 × 10-7 to 1.0 × 10-2 mol L-1 for electrode (IX) and electrode (X) sensors, respectively. The limit of detection of the electrode (IX) and electrode (X) sensors was found to be 6.8 × 10-10 and 1.0 × 10-7 mol L-1, respectively. The potentiometric response of the electrode (IX) and electrode (X) based on GNPs-BMPB and BMPB are independent of pH of test solution in the pH range of 2.5–8.1 and 3–7 with a response time of 6 and 8 s for electrode (IX) and electrode (X) sensors, respectively. The proposed sensors showed fairly good discriminating ability towards Zn(II) ion in comparison with many hard and soft metal ions. Finally, the proposed electrodes were successfully used as indicator electrodes in potentiometric titration of zinc ion with sodium tetraphenylborate (NaTPB) and in direct determination of Zn(II) ion in some water samples. The results obtained compared well with those obtained using atomic absorption spectrometry.
