      • Analysis of Cancer Incidence in Zhejiang Cancer Registry in China during 2000 to 2009

        Du, Ling-Bin,Li, Hui-Zhang,Wang, Xiang-Hui,Zhu, Chen,Liu, Qing-Min,Li, Qi-Long,Li, Xue-Qin,Shen, Yong-Zhou,Zhang, Xin-Pei,Ying, Jiang-Wei,Yu, Chuan-Ding,Mao, Wei-Min Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.14

Objective: The Zhejiang Provincial Cancer Prevention and Control Office collected cancer registration data during 2000 to 2009 from 6 cancer registries in Zhejiang province of China in order to analyze the cancer incidence. Methods: Descriptive analysis included cancer incidence stratified by sex, age and cancer site group. The proportions and cumulative rates of 10 common cancers in different groups were also calculated. Chinese population census in 1982 and Segi's population were used for calculating age-standardized incidence rates. The log-linear model was used for fitting to calculate the incidence trends. Results: The 6 cancer registries in Zhejiang province in China covered a total of 60,087,888 person-years during 2000 to 2009 (males 30,445,904, females 29,641,984). The total number of new cancer cases were 163,104 (males 92,982, females 70,122). The morphology verified cases accounted for 69.7%, and the new cases verified only by information from death certification accounted for 1.23%. The crude incidence rate in Zhejiang cancer registration areas was $271.5/10^5$ during 2000 to 2009 (male $305.41/10^5$, female $236.58/10^5$), age-standardized incidence rates by Chinese standard population (ASIRC) and by world standard population (ASIRW) were $147.1/10^5$ and $188.2/10^5$, the cumulative incidence rate (aged from 0 to 74) being 21.7%. The crude incidence rate was $209.6/10^5$ in 2000, and it increased to $320.20/10^5$ in 2009 (52.8%), with an annual percent change (APC) of 4.51% (95% confidence interval, 3.25%-5.79%). Age-specific incidence rate of 80-84 age group was achieved at the highest point of the incidence curve. Overall with different age groups, the cancer incidences differed, the incidence of liver cancer being highest in 15-44 age group in males; the incidence of breast cancer was the highest in 15-64 age group in females; the incidences of lung cancer were the highest in both males and females over the age of 65 years. Conclusions: Lung cancer, digestive system malignancies and breast cancer are the most common cancers in Zhejiang province in China requiring an especial focus. The incidences of thyroid cancer, prostate cancer, cervical cancer and lymphoma have increased rapidly. Prevention and control measures should be implemented for these cancers.

Tug of War-Who is the Winner? Canker Disease Restructures the Endophytic Bacterial Community of Citrus

        Jian-Yu Zhou,Yi Zhang,Wen-Ping Xu,Misbah Naz,Xiao-Meng Li,Xu Li,Bi-Ying Zhao,Shan-Shan Qi,Zhi-Cong Dai,Dao-Lin Du 한국원예학회 2023 원예과학기술지 Vol.41 No.5

High-throughput sequencing and a 16S rRNA gene clone library amplicon analysis were used to study the endophytic microbial diversity in citrus leaves in response to a Xanthomonas citri pv. Citri (Xcc) infection in an effort to develop a biocontrol scheme for citrus canker disease. There are more species of moderate citrus canker disease (MCD) than severe citrus canker disease (SCD) in terms of both Shannon and Simpson index measurements. Taxonomy has shown that the MCD Firmicutes group (25.2%) outnumber the SCD group (0.55%). Some Firmicutes can suppress Xcc, but in SCD leaves, they are in a competitive position and do not have a dominating niche; therefore, their population is greatly decreased. Sphingomonas and Methylobacterium, two genera of the phylum Proteobacteria, are growth-promoting and stress-resistant in most plants and comprise approximately 60% of the SCD group, whereas the MCD group was less abundant. In conclusion, citrus canker disease restructures bacterial communities in infected leaves, causing the endophytic community to evolve toward “weakening its spear and strengthening its shield.” This research provides support for the idea that introducing helpful bacterial strains in advance may alter the relative abundance of bacteria in a given area and hence decrease the likelihood of infection by harmful bacteria. The future of sequencing technology lies in research on microbial community functions, the elucidation of plant processes and pathogen occurrence, and support for the development of plant biological control technologies.

SYNTHESIS AND OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF CRYSTALLINE Si-1-xGexOy NANORODS

        C.W. Zhou,K.F. Cai,D. H. YU,Y. Du 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2013 NANO Vol.8 No.6

Crystalline Si1-xGexOy nanorods were successfully synthesized by a chemical vapor deposition method using germanium as a starting material on Au-coated Si (111) substrate at ~ 1000°C in a flowing high-purity Ar atmosphere. Most of the nanorods have smooth surfaces, with diameters ranging from ~ 50 nm to 165 nm and lengths longer than several microns. Ultraviolet-visible absorption spectrum of the nanorods shows a maximum absorption wavelength at 203 nm. Photoluminescence spectrum of the nanorods exhibits an ultraviolet emission peak at 336 nm. The growth of the nanorods follows a vapor–liquid–solid mechanism.

      • Risk Factors for Cervical Cancer in Rural Areas of Wuhan China: a Matched Case-control Study

        Zhang, Bin,Zhou, Ai-Fen,Zhu, Chang-Cai,Zhang, Ling,Xiang, Bing,Chen, Zhong,Hu, Rong-Hua,Zhang, Ya-Qi,Qiu, Lin,Zhang, Yi-Ming,Xiong, Chao-Du,Du, Yu-Kai,Shi, Yu-Qin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.12

Cervical cancer is a serious public health problem in developing countries. We investigated possible risk factors for cervical cancer in rural areas of Wuhan China using a matched case-control study with 33 women diagnosed with cervical cancer and 132 healthy women selected from the same area as matched controls. A questionnaire, which included questions about general demography conditions, environmental and genetic factors, the first sexual intercourse, first marriage age, age at first pregnancy, pregnancy first child's age, female personal health history, social psychological factors, dietary habits, smoking and alcohol status and other living habits was presented to all participants. At the same time, HPV infection of every participant was examined in laboratory testing. Results showed HPV infection (P<0.000, OR=23.4) and pregnancy first child's age (P<0.000, OR=13.1) to be risk factors for cervical cancer. Menopause (P=0.003, OR=0.073) was a protective factor against cervical cancer. However, there was no indication of associations of environmental (drinking water, insecticide, disinfectant) genetic (cancer family history), or life-style factors (smoking status, alcohol status, physical training, sleep quality), including dietary habits (intake of fruit and vegetable, meat, fried food, bean products and pickled food) or social psychological factors with cervical cancer. The results suggest that the risk of cervical cancer in Chinese rural women may be associated with HPV infection, menopause and the pregnancy first child's age.

      • Evaluate VTS benefits: A case study of Zhoushan Port

        Jun-Min MOU,Cui ZHOU,Yu DU,Wei-Ming TANG 국제이네비해양경제학회 2015 International Journal of e-Navigation and Maritime Vol.3 No.1

It has been well acknowledged that Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) has played a growing important role to ensure the safety of navigation in the busy ports and waterways. However, the benefits produced by VTS are usually ignored by the public and private sectors. Besides, the previous evaluations generally exist following problems: (1) It is difficult to collect the data for the parameters in the evaluation models and/or the parameters are designed illogically; (2) Those models did not take the following factors into consideration such as reducing the frequency of coastal vessel patrolling and saving human and material resources; (3) It is difficult to clearly discriminate the benefits derived from VTS and non-VTS. In this paper, a framework is presented to calculate the benefits of VTS in China. Four key indicators (safety, traffic efficiency, environmental protection and reducing supervising cost) and quantitative methods have been introduced into the framework. When calculating the benefits quantitatively, the traffic condition before the construction (expansion) of the VTS has acted as a benchmark. For a case study, the project of the expansion of VTS in Zhoushan Port, East China was evaluated with 10-year data. According to the results, the largest contribution is from the benefit of environmental protection. Via Cost-benefit analysis the benefit cost ratio (B/C) of the VTS is up to 5.248, which shows the benefits produced by VTS are considerable. The research could provide references for VTS benefits evaluation and investment optimizing.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Capnia zijinshana (Plecoptera: Capniidae) and phylogenetic analysis among stoneflies

        Chen Zhi-Teng,Du Yu-Zhou 한국응용곤충학회 2017 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.20 No.2

The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of the winter stonefly, Capnia zijinshana (Plecoptera: Capniidae), was sequenced and compared with other stoneflies. The mitogenome of C. zijinshana is 16,310 bp long and contains 37 genes including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and a control region (CR). The gene arrangement of C. zijinshana and other 12 stonefly mitogenomes is identical with the putative ancestral mitogenome in Drosophila yakuba. Twenty-one of the 22 tRNAs in the C. zijinshana mitogenome could be folded into the typical cloverleaf secondary structure, while the dihydrouridine (DHU) arm of trnS (AGN) was missing. The 1513-bp control region of C. zijinshana contained two potential stem-loop structures and a tandem repeat region. The phylogenetic relationships of 13 species from Plecoptera were analyzed based on the nucleotide sequences of 13 PCGs. The phylogenetic relationships among 13 stoneflies and two mayflies were inferred by Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood methods. C. zijinshana was grouped with another two winter stoneflies, Mesocapnia arizonensis and Apteroperla tikumana. The two analyses both supported the close relationship of Pteronarcyidae and Chloroperlidae, and also supported the sister-group relationship of Styloperlidae and Perlidae.

Prognostic Value of Serum Epstein–Barr Virus Antibodies and Their Correlation with TNM Classification in Patients with Locoregionally Advanced Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

        Wan-Ru Zhang,Yu-Yun Du,Chun-Yan Guo,Han-Xing Zhou,Jie-Yi Lin,Xiao-Han Meng,Hao-Yuan Mo,Dong-Hua Luo 대한암학회 2021 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.53 No.4

Purpose This study assessed the correlation between Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) biomarkers and the eighth American Joint Committee on Cancer staging system and the prognostic values of IgG antibodies against replication and transcription activator (Rta-IgG), IgA antibodies against Epstein-Barr nuclear antigen 1, and BamH1 Z transactivator (Zta-IgA) in locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients. Materials and Methods Serum EBV antibody levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in 435 newly diagnosed stage III-IVA NPC patients administered intensity-modulated radiation therapy±chemotherapy. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS). Results Rta-IgG and Zta-IgA levels were positively correlated with the N category and clinical stage. Patients with high Rta-IgG levels (> 29.07 U/mL) showed a significantly inferior prognosis as indicated by PFS (77% vs. 89.8%, p=0.004), distant metastasis–free survival (DMFS) (88.3% vs. 95.8%, p=0.021), and local recurrence-free survival (LRFS) (91.2% vs. 98.3%, p=0.009). High Rta-IgG levels were also significantly associated with inferior PFS and LRFS in multivariable analyses. In the low-level EBV DNA group (≤ 1,500 copies/mL), patients with high Rta-IgG levels had significantly inferior PFS and DMFS (both p < 0.05). However, in the high-level EBV DNA group, Rta-IgG levels were not significantly associated with PFS, DMFS, and LRFS. In the advanced T category (T3-4) subgroup, high Rta-IgG levels were also significantly associated with inferior PFS, DMFS, and LRFS (both p < 0.05). Conclusion Rta-IgG and Zta-IgA levels were strongly correlated with the TNM classification. Rta-IgG level was a negative prognostic factor in locoregionally advanced NPC patients, especially those with advanced T category or low EBV DNA level.
