The effect of the distance between two adjacent mixing points on overall mass transfer coefficient was studied for distillation experiments of binary system, acetone-methanol in a 26.5 mm I.D. laboratory column designed to simulate the flow characteristics of an industrial packed distillation column. Five different types of packing elements were used and a quantitative empirical correlation was proposed between overall mass transfer coefficient and the characteristic packing length. The analysis of the present experimental result and of the previous work showed that the general correlation between KG and characteristic packing length would be a hyperbolic function and that if the liquid film is not rippling, as was the present case, the variation of overall mass transfer coefficient could be represented by a linear function of the number of mixing points.

Nowadays their usage has already been broaden to everyday's commercial applications such as golf club heads, finger rings and many decorative items. Anticipating the general use of this material and development of the titanium alloys in domestic facilities, the review and the study of the machining parameters for those alloys are deemed necessary. this study is concentrated to the machining parameters of the Ti-6A1-4V alloy due to their dominant position in the production of titanium alloys.

Terfenadine (TFN) was a second generation histamine receptor antagonist. Although several studies have reported the regulatory effect of H1-histamine receptor antagonists in human cancer cell lines, its effect in oral cancer remains unclear. In this study, we focused on addressing the anti-cancer activity of TFN in human oral cancer cell lines. The anti-cancer activities of TFN were performed by tryphan blue exclusion assay, 4'-6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining, live/dead assay and Western blot analysis. TFN induced a significant reduction of the growth in three different human oral cancer cell lines (MC3, HSC4 and Ca9.22). TFN markedly induced apoptosis through DNA damage and increase in cytotoxicity. It also accumulated cleaved PARP and caspase 3. This process was due to cleavage of caspase 8 and Bid protein. The results from this study strongly demonstrated that the cleavages of caspase 8 and Bid are required for the apoptotic activity of TFN in human oral cancer cells. Taken together, these findings suggest TFN as a potent anticancer drug candidate for the treatment of oral cancer.

<P>Interleukin-21 (IL-21) can enhance the effector function of natural killer (NK) cells but also limits their proliferation when continuously combined with IL-2/IL-15. Paradoxically, membrane-bound (mb)-IL-21 has been shown to improve human NK cell proliferation when cultured with IL-2/mb-IL-15. To clarify the role of IL-21, we investigated the effect of the timing of IL-21 addition to NK cell culture.</P>

This study was conducted to estimate temperature effect on the hatching success of Asian Gypsy Moth (AGM), Lymantria dispar (Linne) in different temperature conditions (15, 20, 25, 30, and 35℃). The egg masses were collected during winter season and stored in cold room (4℃). The hatching rate was evaluated from the number of hatched caterpillar for period of 50 days. As a result, hatching rates were 89.80, 92.94, 95.51, 62.02, and 18.35% at 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35℃, respectively. The optimal temperature on the hatching success of AGM egg might be 20~25℃.
