        한국기상학회지의 국제화에 대한 방안

        Journal of the Korean Meteorological Society (JKMS) is confronted by a huge challenge. Following the long-term plan of the Korean Meteorological Society (KMS), the JKMS has entered a new era in 2006 in the sense that the all papers are published in English. Tremendous efforts are needed to accomplish the original goal of JKMS becoming an internationally recognized journal. A forum was held in this connection with the subject of the vitalization of the JKMS at the Spring Meeting of the Korean Meteorological Society held at Gwangju, 2006. A number of special topics were presented at the forum and active and vigorous discussions followed. Professor Dong-Kyou Lee presented strategies to increase the number of submission to the JKMS. Professor Seon Ki Park gave a presentation on how JKMS can grow into the SCI journal. The Editor-in-Chief of JKMS, professor H. Joe Kwon introduced the on-line review system of JKMS which had launched in 2006. This manuscript is presented on the basis of the presentations and the discussions at the forum for the purpose of finding the way in aiming the direction of the long-term goal of the KMS.

        DEVELOPMENT OF CRASH PAD USING OVERMOLDING TECHNOLOGY

        Herein, the hard panel-crash pad integrally overmolded with soft skin thermoplastic polyoefins (TPO) for soft feeling and cost reduction was developed. Furthermore, a cost-effective PAB door system having an in-mold tear seam was produced that avoided competitors’ patents simultaneously. The development procedure of this overmolding technology was introduced as follows. The first one is the selection of overmolding material. The second one is the design optimization. The third one is the solving of the tool challenges. The reduction in the number of process by integrally molding with soft material helped accomplish a soft feeling on the crash pad and cost reduction simultaneously. The airbag deployment as well as head impact performance and heat-aging tests were conducted and applied to five patents for optimizing the mold’s structure and injection conditions.

        A development of simple analysis model on bumper barrier impact and new IIHS bumper impact using the dynamically equivalent beam approach

        This paper presents a simple analysis model for bumper barrier impact and new IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) bumper impact instead of a non-linear finite element impact analysis. A dynamically equivalent beam approach was introduced to simplify the non-linear dynamic bumper impact. For a bumper barrier impact, the equivalent curved-beam element was substituted for the bumper beam and the bumper foam. For a new IIHS bumper impact, a modified curved-beam element of bumper barrier impact considering the effect of contoured new IIHS impact barrier was used. The accuracy of this simple analysis model was tested by comparing its results with those of the non-linear finite element analysis. Tested bumper beam types were press type beam and roll forming beam used widely in the current car bumpers. The maximum displacement error between the two models did not exceed 1.95% for a barrier impact and 13.2% for a new IIHS bumper impact. This accuracy is good enough to be used in the early stage of bumper beam design process. This simple analysis model is expected to reduce the car development time and tests cost significantly.

      • RORγt-specific transcriptional interactomic inhibition suppresses autoimmunity associated with T<sub>H</sub>17 cells

        <P>The nuclear hormone receptor retinoic acid-related orphan receptor gamma t (ROR gamma t) is a transcription factor (TF) specific to T(H)17 cells that produce interleukin (IL)-17 and have been implicated in a wide range of autoimmunity. Here, we developed a novel therapeutic strategy to modulate the functions of ROR gamma t using cell-transducible form of transcription modulation domain of ROR gamma t (tROR gamma t-TMD), which can be delivered effectively into the nucleus of cells and into the central nerve system (CNS). tROR gamma t-TMD specifically inhibited T(H)17-related cytokines induced by ROR gamma t, thereby suppressing the differentiation of naive T cells into T(H)17, but not into T(H)1, T(H)2, or Treg cells. tROR gamma t-TMD injected into experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) animal model can be delivered effectively in the splenic CD4(+) T cells and spinal cord-infiltrating CD4(+) T cells, and suppress the functions of T(H)17 cells. The clinical severity and incidence of EAE were ameliorated by tROR gamma t-TMD in preventive and therapeutic manner, and significant reduction of both infiltrating CD4(+) IL-17(+) T cells and inflammatory cells into the CNS was observed. As a result, the number of spinal cord demyelination was also reduced after tROR gamma t-TMD treatment. With the same proof of concept, tTbet-TMD specifically blocking T(H)1 differentiation improved the clinical incidence of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Therefore, tROR gamma t-TMD and tTbet-TMD can be novel therapeutic reagents with the natural specificity for the treatment of inflammatory diseases associated with T(H)17 or T(H)1. This strategy can be applied to treat various diseases where a specific transcription factor has a key role in pathogenesis.</P>

        A study on the development of equivalent beam analysis model on pedestrian protection bumper impact

        This paper presents a dynamically equivalent beam analysis model on pedestrian protection bumper impact instead of a non-linear finite element impact analysis method. Equivalent beam analysis model was developed by substituting the femur and tibia for dynamically equivalent Euler beam. Dynamically equivalent forces of bumper beam, upper stiffener and lower stiffener are found by a finite element analysis results and applied to the Euler beam model of lower legform impactor. This equivalent beam analysis model was used to obtain a bending angle of lower legform impactor by using finite element beam theory. Peak acceleration of the tibia was obtained by developing an approximate acceleration equation. A linear interpolation of non-linear finite element analysis results considering the dimension variation of bumper beam factors affecting the acceleration was used to get an approximate acceleration equation. The accuracy of this simple analysis model was tested by comparing its results with those of the non-linear finite element analysis. Tested bumper beam types were press type beam and roll forming beam used widely in the current car bumpers. The differences of maximum acceleration of the tibia between the two models did not exceed 10% and the bending angle did not exceed 20%. This accuracy is enough to be used in the early stage of bumper beam design to check the bumper pedestrian performance quickly. Use of equivalent beam analysis model is expected to reduce the analysis time with respect to the non-linear finite element analysis significantly.

        SUV 차량 리어 스포일러 최적 형상에 관한 연구

        최근 친환경 자동차 개발과 함께 대기 오염 문제 대응을 위해서 자동차 연비 개선은 차량 개발에 있어서 매우 중요하다. 개발 차량의 연비 향상을 위한 요소 중 차량 외관을 타고 흐르는 공기 흐름과 차량 후부에서의 공기 유동 현상은 중요한 요소이다. 특별히 SUV(Sports Utility Vehicle) 차량의 차량 후부 공기 유동은 리어 스포일러 설계 시 고려해야 하는 중요한 설계 항목 중 하나이다. 본 연구에서는 차량의 공기 유동에 영향을 주는 리어 스포일러의 제어 인자를 정하고 각 제어 인자의 공기 유동 특성에 대한 민감도를 시험을 통하여 비교 분석하고, 유동 저항력을 감소시킬 수 있는 스포일러의 최적 제어 인자를 결정하였다. 결정된 최적 제어 인자를 이용한 시험 모델을 만들어 시험평가하고 그 결과 값에 대한 S/N비와 평균값을 분석하여 제어 인자 값을 변경하였다. 변경된 최적 제어 인자 값을 이용한 개선 모델을 다시 제작하고 유동 시험을 실시하여 공기 저항력 감소 효과와 원가절감 효과를 확인하였다. Recently, fuel consumption efficiency has become the most important issue in the vehicle development process due to the problem of environmental pollution. The air flow patterns of the vehicle body line and rear part are the most important elements affecting the fuel consumption efficiency. Especially, the airflow pattern of the vehicle rear part is the most important design factor to be considered in rear spoiler design. In this paper, the control factors affecting the airflow of the rear spoiler are determined, the airflow sensitivity of these control factors are tested and, then, the optimized control factors to reduce the airflow drag force are proposed. The model of optimized control factors is tested and the values of the optimized control factors are changed by analyzing the S/N ratio and mean value. Finally, the new modified model incorporating the optimized control factors is tested in an air flow tunnel and its ability to decrease the air drag and reduce the cost is verified.

        Evaluation of the Implementation of ISO 11783 for 250 kbps Transmission Rate of Tractor Electronic Control Unit

        Purpose: Accurate monitoring of information from various agricultural vehicles is one of the most important factors for appropriate management strategy of field operations. While there has been a number of study and design on applications of sensors and actuators for data acquisition and control system in tractor, incompatibility between various customized hardware and software has become a major obstacle to the universal deployment in real field operation. International standard for implementation of electronic control unit (ECU) in agricultural vehicles has becoming a mandatory requirement for inter-operation compatibility in the international trade of agricultural vehicle industries. The ISO11783 standard is basically based upon well known communication technology designated using the controller area network (CAN) bus. While CAN bus could provide 1.0 Mbps of communication speed, the standard only recommended 250 kbps. Methods: This study presents the implementation and evaluation of ISO11783 for tractor electronic control units (TECU)with a higher transmission rate from multiple ECU than 250 kbps. Throughput and loss rate of the developed prototype were calculated across manipulated bus load for laboratory experimental tests, and the maximum requirement of transmission rate by ISO 11873 was satisfied with lower than 60% of bus load. Results: Field tests with a TECU implemented to process messages from global positioning system (GPS) receiver resulted that the root mean square error of position information was lower than 4 m with 0.5 m/s as a travelling speed. Conclusions: Results of this study represent the utilization of the international standard ISO11783 to providepractical developments in terms with the inter-operability of TECU.

        Determination of the composition of a tetrasaccharide Isolated from Glycosylated Barley β- Amylase Isozyme Using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

        In order to determine the composition of a tetrasaccharide obtained from glycosylated barley β-amylase isozyme we applied two-dimensional (2-D) nmr (nuclear magnetic resonance) techniques. COSY (COrrelated SpectroscopY) and TOCSY (TOtally Correlated SpectroscopY) pulse sequences enabled us to achieve an unambiguous assignment of four monosaccharide units by allowing us to follow the shift-correlation map in each monomeric ring. After careful comparison to proton chemical shifts as well as the resonance patterns in literature we have found that there are α-D-G1cNAc, β-D-G1cNAc, α-D-Man and β-D-Man in the tetrasaccharide.
