A down-flow hanging sponge (DHS) bioreactor was operated for the treatment of domestic wastewater. The Stover-Kincannon model was applied for kinetic evaluation of the reactor performance during the operational period. As a result, the coefficient of determination (R²) for straight lines of effluent concentration from the experimental data and from the predictive data of BOD5; NH₄+-N; and TN were 0.9727; 0.9883; and 0.9934, respectively. The calculation of saturation value constant (Umax - g L<SUP>-1</SUP> d<SUP>-1</SUP>) and maximum utilization rate constant (KB - g L-1 d-1) were 56.818 and 75.034 for BOD5; 2.960 and 4.713 for NH₄+-N; 2.810 and 8.37 for TN, respectively. The study suggests that Stover-Kincannon model can be used for effective evaluation of kinetic removal of BOD5; NH₄+-N; and TN from domestic wastewater treated in a DHS bioreactor.

This study investigated crystal structures, microstructures, and electric-field-induced strain (EFIS) properties of Bibased lead-free ferroelectric/relaxor composites. Bi1/2(Na0.82K0.18)1/2TiO3 (BNKT) as a ferroelectric material and 0.78Bi1/2(Na0.78K0.22)1/2TiO3-0.02LaFeO3 (BNKT2LF) as a relaxor material were synthesized using a conventional solid-state reaction method, and the resulting BNKT2LF powders were subjected to high-energy ball milling (HEBM) after calcination. As a result, HEBM proved a larger average grain size of sintered samples compared to conventional ball milling (CBM). In addition, the increased sintering time led to grain growth. Furthermore, HEBM treatment and sintering time demonstrated a significant effect on EFIS of BNKT/BNKT2LF composites. At 6 kV/mm, 0.35% of the maximum strain (Smax) was observed in the HEBM sample sintered for 12 h. The unipolar strain curves of CBM samples were almost linear, indicating almost no phase transitions, while HEBM samples displayed phase transitions at 5~6 kV/mm for all sintering time levels, showing the highest Smax/Emax value of 700 pm/V. These results indicated that HEBM treatment with a long sintering time might significantly enhance the electromechanical strain properties of BNT-based ceramics.
Factors Affecting Employees' Organizational Commitment in Foreign Direct Investment Enterprises

This study aims to develop a research framework to investigate the factors affecting organizational commitment among employees who are working in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) enterprises in Vietnam. The authors designed an online survey distributed to employees in FDI enterprises, collecting the data from 312 employees. All scales in this study are adopted from previous studies; tools employed include Cronbach's Alpha, Exploratory Factor Analysis, and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to examine the internal consistency, reliability, dimensionality, and validity of each variable. Then, the structural equation modelling (SEM) was utilized in order to estimate path correlations between variables. Results indicate that the leadership style has the strongest effect on organizational commitment, followed by job satisfaction and working performance. Moreover, working performance and job satisfaction are also influenced by leadership style. However, there is no statistical evidence to show that job satisfaction has an impact on working performance. In addition, bootstrapping method is used to show the indirect effect of variables; results reveal that leadership style, though, does not have indirect effect on working performance via job satisfaction, but it indirectly affects organizational commitment throughout working performance. In other words, the study finds that working performance mediates the link between leadership style and organizational commitment.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The antimicrobial efficacies of extracts and constituents fractionated from <I>Rheum tanguticum</I> rhizomes were evaluated by using <I>in vitro</I> and <I>in vivo</I> bioassay against seven phytopathogenic fungi and ten pathogenic bacteria, respectively. Dichloromethane and ethyl acetate soluble extracts derived from <I>R. tanguticum</I> rhizomes effectively controlled plant diseases caused by five fungi <I>Magnaporthe oryzae</I>, <I>Blumeria graminis</I> f. sp<I>. hordei, Colletotrichum coccodes, Phytophthora infestans,</I> and <I>Puccinia recondita</I> in <I>in vivo</I> whole plant bioassay. In addition, these extracts showed strong inhibitory activity against the bacterial growth of <I>Acidovorax avenae</I> subsp. <I>cattlyae</I> (Aac), <I>Clavibacter michiganensis</I> subsp. <I>michiganensis</I>, <I>Xanthomonas arboricola</I> pv. <I>pruni</I> (Xap), and <I>Pseudomonas syringae</I> pv. <I>actinidiae</I> (Psa), with MIC values ranging from 125 to 250μg/mL. The active extracts of <I>R. tanguticum</I> rhizomes were fractionated by using various and repeated chromatographic techniques to yield seven constituents that included three anthraquinones and four stilbenes. Notably, at concentrations ranging from 75 to 300μg/mL, physcion (<B>DH03</B>) and chrysophanol (<B>DH04</B>) were significantly effective in suppressing the development of barley powdery mildew (BPM) caused by <I>B. graminis</I> f. sp. <I>hordei,</I> with control values from 80 to 96.7%. Moreover, stilbenes rhapontigenin (<B>DH02</B>) and desoxyrhapontigenin (<B>DH05</B>) had a broad spectrum and potent activity against phytopathogenic bacteria; <B>DH05</B> effectively inhibited the bacterial growth of Aac, <I>Burkholderia glumae</I> and Psa at MICs ranging from 38 to 150μg/mL. In this paper, we report their antibacterial activity for the first time. The botanical materials containing anthraquinones and stilbenes were active against both phytopathogenic fungi and bacteria. This study aims to investigate the impact of the multimarket contract on risk-adjusted profitability. Risk-adjusted profitability is measured in terms of risk-adjusted return on assets. This study employs dynamic panel data of 27 commercial banks in Vietnam using the GMM estimator to test the multimarket contact hypothesis in the Vietnamese banking sector. The results show that there is a negative impact of multimarket contact on the profitability of banks. Multimarket contact, deposit to asset ratio, non-interest income to total income, GDP growth rate, Worldwide Governance Indicator (WGI), and operating cost to assets are the major determinants of risk-adjusted profitability of commercial banks. Our main findings show that Vietnamese banks' focus to increase the multimarket contact may lead to lower profitability and there is evidence that supports theory predictions, since the average number of contacts among banks, bank size, and capitalization are positively related to risk-adjusted profitability. The study has policy implications for commercial banks in that they should not only focus on interest as a source of income and diversify their income source from non-interest income as well since it helps to improve risk-adjusted profitability for them.

Scientific evidence on all aspects of smoking amongst youth is very important for designing appropriate interventions to reduce smoking among this vulnerable population. This paper describes current access to anti-smoking information among school children aged 13 to 15 years in Vietnam in 2014 and examines its potential impact on preventing smoking initiation. The data used in this paper were obtained from the 2014 Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) in Vietnam. Students were asked questions about their level of awareness of anti-smoking information from various sources in the past 30 days and about lessons in school regarding the dangers of tobacco use during the last 12 months. Those who have never smoked were asked "whether or not they thought about avoiding cigarettes because of health warnings on cigarette packages" and answers were analyzed in combination with data on access to anti-smoking information from other sources. The prevalence of exposure to antismoking campaigns was high among school children in Viet Nam: 55.3% of current smokers reported thoughts of smoking cessation because of health warnings on cigarette packages; 60.5% of never smokers avoided initiating smoking because of the same health warnings. The potential impact of graphic health warnings to prevent school-aged children from smoking initiation would be stronger if there was concurrent access to anti-smoking programs on the dangers of tobacco use in schools. However, school education for tobacco prevention and control has not been as strong as expected. A more comprehensive school curriculum on tobacco prevention and control is recommended to reinforce antismoking messages among school children.
