      • Beyond Projection: A New Way to Understand Ancient Chinese Architectural Drawing

( Wu Cong ) 성균관대학교 동아시아학술원 2003 Sungkyun Journal of East Asian Studies Vol.3 No.2

Based on psychological law of visual perception, architectural drawing, as 2D representation of 3D subjects, transforms them equivalently to the forms integrated in certain artistic media; so how people represent can be well explained, no matter their methods are accord with projection theory or not. From these basic facts, this paper discusses ``Chinese representation methods``: types, examples, properties, evolution, psychological reasons and practical, cultural and aesthetic values, and so on. In their architectural practice, ancient Chinese tended to represent empirical space-time instead of physical, logical space-time, preferred synthesis of various, specific, practical meanings instead of universal principles.

CHMP1A suppresses the growth of renal cell carcinoma cells via regulation of the PI3K/mTOR/p53 signaling pathway

        Wu Youping,Wu Yueguo,Xu Cong,Sun Wei,You Zhenqiang,Wang Yin,Zhang Sheng 한국유전학회 2022 Genes & Genomics Vol.44 No.7

Background: CHMP1A, a member of the ESCRT-III complex family, has been indicated as a brand-new inhibitor gene of tumors. Our previous research has revealed that CHMP1A plays a vital role in the development and progression of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Objective: To investigate the potential target pathway of the regulation of the tumor cell growth by CHMP1A. Methods: The effect of CHMP1A on mTOR pathway was elucidated by western blotting. The effect of CHMP1A on the expression of p53 was evaluated, and A498 cell growth was assessed by colony formation and MTT assays. The expression of p53 was knocked down by shRNA-p53, and the effect of CHMP1A on mTOR after knockdown of p53 was evaluated. The effect of CHMP1A on apoptosis and its relationship with MDM2 pathway were detected by western blotting and FCM. Finally, the relationship between the regulation of p53 by CHMP1A and the PI3K/mTOR pathway was detected. Results: This study showed that the mTOR pathway was suppressed significantly in CHMP1A-overexpressing A498 and 786-0 cells; moreover, the enhanced expression of p53 and the reduced proliferation were shown in CHMP1A-overexpressing A498 cells. Furthermore, CHMP1A was able to regulate the PI3K/PTEN/mTOR and MDM2/p53 pathways in order to suppress RCC. In addition, CHMP1A regulated Bax and Bcl-2 via MDM2/p53 to induce the apoptosis of tumor cells and upregulated the expression of p53 via the PI3K/mTOR pathway. Conclusions: The results convey that CHMP1A-related suppression of RCC is closely related to the PI3K/mTOR/p53 pathway.

Relationship between ICT supporting conditions and ICT application in Chinese urban and rural basic education

        Di Wu,CongCong L,Wen‑Ting Zhou,Chin‑Chung Tsai,Chun Lu 서울대학교 교육연구소 2019 Asia Pacific Education Review Vol.20 No.1

To investigate the relationships between schools’ ICT supporting conditions and ICT application, a total of 2567 primary and secondary schools from 47 prefecture-level cities were surveyed. The questionnaire was administered to collect the ICT supporting conditions in school (ISCS) and the ICT application in school (IAIS) for each school. Among the ISCS factors, the ICT Environment and School Scale were indicated as being significant predictors of IAIS. In addition, the significant predictive relationship between the ISCS and the IAIS factors for rural schools was much stronger than for urban schools. This indicates that the rural and urban schools in China are now at different ICT development stages. Furthermore, rural schools should focus on the improvement of physical ICT infrastructure and the quality digital resources, whereas urban schools should try to improve teachers’ inadequate epistemic beliefs and design thinking ability. Nevertheless, there are other external and individual-level factors that could directly and indirectly influence schools’ ICT application in education.

Influence of Spatial Distribution of Pores on NMR Transverse Relaxation Time in Pebbly Sandstone

        Feng Wu,Yanping Xi,Qicheng Fan,Cong Yao,Linlin Cong,Fengsheng Zhang,Yan Kuang 한국자기학회 2019 Journal of Magnetics Vol.24 No.4

The relationship between transverse relaxation time (T₂) and pore size distribution is the basis of NMR applications for rocks. However, the equations for T₂ are not accurate enough in rocks with complicated pore structures. Taking pebbly sandstone from the northwestern Junggar Basin in China as an example, the aim of this study is to discover the spatial distribution of pores and its influence on T₂. Porosity, permeability, micro-images and T₂ distributions were acquired from rock samples, and pore structure parameters were obtained from binarized thin section images. The results show that as the grain size increases, the proportion of dissolution pores increases and the spatial distribution of pores changes from a random to a clustered pattern. The relaxation of a hydrogen atom takes longer and T₂ is higher in dissolution pores compared with those in intergranular pores. New equations for T₂ that consider the spatial distribution of pores are proposed.

Sequential fusion to defend against sensing data falsification attack for cognitive Internet of Things

        Wu, Jun,Wang, Cong,Yu, Yue,Song, Tiecheng,Hu, Jing Electronics and Telecommunications Research Instit 2020 ETRI Journal Vol.42 No.6

Internet of Things (IoT) is considered the future network to support wireless communications. To realize an IoT network, sufficient spectrum should be allocated for the rapidly increasing IoT devices. Through cognitive radio, unlicensed IoT devices exploit cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS) to opportunistically access a licensed spectrum without causing harmful interference to licensed primary users (PUs), thereby effectively improving the spectrum utilization. However, an open access cognitive IoT allows abnormal IoT devices to undermine the CSS process. Herein, we first establish a hard-combining attack model according to the malicious behavior of falsifying sensing data. Subsequently, we propose a weighted sequential hypothesis test (WSHT) to increase the PU detection accuracy and decrease the sampling number, which comprises the data transmission status-trust evaluation mechanism, sensing data availability, and sequential hypothesis test. Finally, simulation results show that when various attacks are encountered, the requirements of the WSHT are less than those of the conventional WSHT for a better detection performance.

      • Disruption of endothelial barrier function is linked with hyposecretion and lymphocytic infiltration in salivary glands of Sjögren's syndrome

        Cong, Xin,Zhang, Xue-Ming,Zhang, Yan,Wei, Tai,He, Qi-Hua,Zhang, Li-Wei,Hua, Hong,Lee, Sang-Woo,Park, Kyungpyo,Yu, Guang-Yan,Wu, Li-Ling Elsevier 2018 Biochimica et biophysica acta. Molecular basis of Vol.1864 No.10

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is an inflammatory autoimmune disease that causes hyposecretion in salivary glands. Endothelial tight junctions (TJs) play crucial roles in salivation and barrier function of blood vessels. However, whether the alteration of endothelial TJs were involved in pathogenesis of SS was still unknown. Here, the ultrastructure and function of endothelial TJs in submandibular glands (SMGs) were detected by transmission electron microscopy and in vivo paracellular permeability assay in different aged NOD mouse model for SS. CFSE-labeled lymphocytes were injected into tail vein to trace the infiltration, while claudin-5 expression and distribution were detected by immunofluorescence, qRT-PCR, and western blot. Results showed that the stimulated salivary flow rate was gradually decreased and lymphocytic infiltration was found as age increased in 12- and 21-week-old NOD mice, but not 7-week-old NOD mice. Blood vessels were dilated, while endothelial TJ width and paracellular tracer transport were increased in 12-week-old NOD mice. Moreover, the injected CFSE-labeled lymphocytes were observed in SMGs of 12-week-old NOD mice. Claudin-5 level was increased and relocalized from the apical portion of neighboring endothelial cells to lateral membranes and cytoplasm in 12-week-old NOD mice. Additionally, the alteration of claudin-5 expression and distribution was further confirmed in labial salivary glands and bilateral parotid glands from SS patients. In cultured human microvessel endothelial cell line (HMEC-1), IFN-γ stimulation significantly increased claudin-5 expression. Taken together, we identified that the endothelial TJ barrier was disrupted and contributed to the development of salivary hyposecretion and lymphocytic infiltration in SS.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Endothelial tight junction barrier is disrupted in hyposecretory submandibular glands from Sjögren's syndrome mouse model </LI> <LI> The disrupted salivary endothelial barrier is linked with lymphocytic infiltration in Sjögren's syndrome mouse model </LI> <LI> The redistribution of claudin-5 is responsible for disrupted endothelial barrier in salivary glands from Sjögren's syndrome </LI> </UL> </P>

Bagging deep convolutional autoencoders trained with a mixture of real data and GAN-generated data

        ( Cong Hu ),( Xiao-jun Wu ),( Zhen-qiu Shu ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2019 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.13 No.11

While deep neural networks have achieved remarkable performance in representation learning, a huge amount of labeled training data are usually required by supervised deep models such as convolutional neural networks. In this paper, we propose a new representation learning method, namely generative adversarial networks (GAN) based bagging deep convolutional autoencoders (GAN-BDCAE), which can map data to diverse hierarchical representations in an unsupervised fashion. To boost the size of training data, to train deep model and to aggregate diverse learning machines are the three principal avenues towards increasing the capabilities of representation learning of neural networks. We focus on combining those three techniques. To this aim, we adopt GAN for realistic unlabeled sample generation and bagging deep convolutional autoencoders (BDCAE) for robust feature learning. The proposed method improves the discriminative ability of learned feature embedding for solving subsequent pattern recognition problems. We evaluate our approach on three standard benchmarks and demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method compared to traditional unsupervised learning methods.

      • MicroRNA-146a Enhances Helicobacter pylori Induced Cell Apoptosis in Human Gastric Cancer Epithelial Cells

        Wu, Kai,Yang, Liu,Li, Cong,Zhu, Chao-Hui,Wang, Xin,Yao, Yi,Jia, Yu-Jie Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.14

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection induces apoptosis in gastric epithelial cells, and this occurrence may link to gastric carcinogenesis. However, the regulatory mechanism of H. pylori-induced apoptosis is not clear. MicroRNA-146a has been implicated as a key regulator of the immune system. This report describes our discovery of molecular mechanisms of microRNA-146a regulation of apoptosis in human gastric cancer cells. We found that overexpression of microRNA-146a by transfecting microRNA-146a mimics could significantly enhance apoptosis, and this upregulation was triggered by COX-2 inhibition. Furthermore, we found that microRNA-146a density was positively correlated with apoptosis rates in H. pylori-positive gastric cancer tissues and intratumoral microRNA-146a density was negatively correlated with lymph node metastasis among H. pylori-positive gastric cancer patients. Understanding the important roles of microRNA-146a in regulating cell apoptosis in H. pylori infected human gastric cancer cells will contribute to the development of microRNA targeted therapy in the future.

      • Pemetrexed Induces G1 Phase Arrest and Apoptosis through Inhibiting Akt Activation in Human Non Small Lung Cancer Cell Line A549

        Wu, Dong-Ming,Zhang, Peng,Xu, Guang-Chao,Tong, Ai-Ping,Zhou, Cong,Lang, Jin-Yi,Wang, Chun-Ting Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.4

Pemetrexed is an antifolate agent which has been used for treating malignant pleural mesothelioma and non small lung cancer in the clinic as a chemotherapeutic agent. In this study, pemetrexed inhibited cell growth and induced G1 phase arrest in the A549 cell line. To explore the molecular mechanisms of pemetrexed involved in cell growth, we used a two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2-DE) proteomics approach to analyze proteins changed in A549 cells treated with pemetrexed. As a result, twenty differentially expressed proteins were identified by ESI-Q-TOF MS/MS analysis in A549 cells incubated with pemetrexed compared with non-treated A549 cells. Three key proteins (GAPDH, HSPB1 and EIF4E) changed in pemetrexed treated A549 cells were validated by Western blotting. Accumulation of GAPDH and decrease of HSPB1 and EIF4E which induce apoptosis through inhibiting phosphorylation of Akt were noted. Expression of p-Akt in A549 cells treated with pemetrexed was reduced. Thus, pemetrexed induced apoptosis in A549 cells through inhibiting the Akt pathway.

Adsorption and sensing characteristics of air decomposed species onto pyridine-like PdN3-doped CNT: a first-principles study

        Cong Hu,Qiao Shi,Yang Xin,Wu Tian,Pu Ziheng 한국탄소학회 2022 Carbon Letters Vol.32 No.1

This work using first-principles theory proposed PdN3-doped CNT (PdN3-CNT) as a potential gas sensor for detection of NO, NO2 and O3 in the air insulated equipment, to evaluate its operation status. Results indicate that the PdN3-CNT behaves chemisorption upon three gas species, with adsorption energy (Ead) of − 2.15, − 1.91 and − 1.96 eV, and charge-transfer (QT) of − 0.141, − 0.325 and − 0.419 e, respectively. The band structure (BS) and density of state (DOS) analysis reveal that the gas adsorptions cause remarkable deformations in the electronic property of the PdN3-CNT, leading to the increase of the bandgap for the gas adsorbed systems and verifying the strong binding force of the bonded atoms from the orbital DOS. Combined with the results by frontier molecular orbital theory, we presume that PdN3-CNT is a promising sensing material to be explored as a resistance-type gas sensor for detection of NOx with higher electrical response upon NO. It is our hope that our theoretical assumption could be further studied and realized in the following experiential research, which would be meaningful to propose novel sensing candidate in the field of electrical engineering to guarantee the safe operation of the air insulation equipment.
