Background: Recently, for various reasons, the need for non-invasive treatment for localized fat has emerged. This study confirmed whether Magnolia officinalis (MO) pharmacopuncture reduces localized fat by promoting lipolysis and inhibiting adipogenesis. Methods: The network was built using genes related to the active compound of MO and the mode of action of MO was predicted by the functional enrichment analysis. Based on the result from network analysis, 100 µL of 2 mg/mL MO pharmacopuncture was injected into the inguinal fat pad for 6 weeks in obese C57BL/6J mice. Normal saline was injected into the right-side inguinal fat pad as a self-control. Results: It was expected that the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling pathway would be affected by the MO Network. MO pharmacopuncture reduced the weight and size of inguinal fat in HFD-induced obese mice. The phosphorylation of AMPK along with the increases of lipases was significantly increased by MO injection. Also, the expression levels of fatty acid synthesize-related mediators were suppressed by MO injection. Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that MO pharmacopuncture promoted the expression of AMPK, which has beneficial effects on activation of lipolysis and inhibition of lipogenesis. Pharmacopuncture of MO can be a non-surgical alternative therapy in the treatment of local fat tissue.

Aims: The quiescent HSCs synthesize glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in normal liver and the expression of GFAP is noted in activated HSC. Moreover, GFAP-expressing HSCs and myofibroblasts are accumulated in and around the lesion of hepatic fibrosis. In addition, it has been reported that peptidylarginine deiminase 2 (PAD2) is responsible for the citrullination of GFAP (cit-GFAP) in the brains of Alzheimer’s disease. However, the involvement of PAD2 and cit-GFAP in hepatic fibrosis remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the roles of PAD2 and cit-GFAP in hepatic fibrosis using a murine model of bile duct ligation (BDL). Methods: Eight-week-old C57B/L6 mice were subjected to BDL. We examined the profiles of PAD2, citrullinated proteins and cit-GFAP using the hepatic tissues after BDL, compared with sham operated control. Hepatic fibrosis was assessed by sirius red-positive collagen accumulation and by increased mRNA levels of fibrosis markers (α -SMA, TIMP-1 and Col1a1). Results: In BDL livers, the expression level of PAD2 protein and PAD2 enzyme activity was significantly increased compared to controls. In addition, the expression levels of citrullinated proteins by anti-modified citrulline antibody were higher in liver of BDL mouse than in the sham operated controls. Interestingly, using both western blot and immunohistochemical analyses, the expression levels of cit-GFAP as well as GFAP were higher in liver of BDL mouse than in sham operated controls. Conclusions: These results suggest that increased cit-GFAP with activated PAD2 may play an important role in hepatic fibrogenesis.

Cephalosporin-C deacetylase (CAH) catalyzes the deacetylation of cephalosporin derivatives. A novel gene encoding the CAH from Bacillus sp. KCCM10143 was cloned and sequenced. The nucleotide sequence contained an open reading frame encoding a polypeptide consisting of 217 amino acids and a molecular weight of 24kDa which was in good agreement with the value obtained by sodium dodecylsulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. An expression plasmid was constructed by inserting the CAH gene into the region of the pTrc99A expression vector. An active form of the CAH protein was expressed in the soluble fraction obtained after cell disruption. In fermentation using a 5-1 jar fermenter, the transformant E. coli JM 109 (pDST654) produced 4.12 U of CAH per ml of culture during 16h of incubation.
Object-Oriented Application to EMS Database design
Choi,Sang-Yule,Kim,Joung-Hyung,Shin,Myong-Chul,Kim,Eung-Mo,Kim,Hak-Man 성균관대학교 1998 학술회의지원논문목록집 Vol.1998 No.-
Currently , EMS (Energy Management system)database is implemented by relational concept. but, It is hard to describe the characteristic of powcr system data which require real time management and composite type. This paper present the way how to apply for EMS database using object-oriented concept which is free to describe composite data type and support inheritance concept. In this paper, first, It analyzed requirement of EMS database to find what kind of data and processing are needed. Second, Designed the conceptual design with EER(enhanced entity relation) modeling skill. During design the conceptual design, most important thing is to separate dynamic data form static data, and create entity with dynamic data and static data. Third is to convert the EER schema to object oriented schema. We belive that our results would contribute to the effective construction of database for most on-line database System.

Proximate chemical components (protein, oil, carbohydrate, ash, fiber, and starch) were determined from tubers grown in upland and wetland conditions. The contents of crude protein, oil, carbohydrate, and starch were higher in upland condition than in wetland condition. Eight gibberellins were commonly identified and quantified in leaves and tuber of chufa grown in wetland and upland field during growing season. Gibberellin content was always higher specifically in the leaves and tubers grown in wetland condition than in those grown in upland condition. The current knowledge of gibberellin biosynthesis suggests that the two endogenous bio-active gibberellins both GA1 and GA4 are differently metabolized according to cultural conditions. Major gibberellin biosynthesis route is ascertained dominantly the non C-13 hydroxylation pathway leading GA4 in chufa plants.

Objectives : This study was designed to estimate the effects of Spiral Taping theraphy on low back pain or neck pain patients by using pressure pain threshold, visual analogue scale(VAS), and range of motion(ROM).Methods : The patients were allocated into two groups by randomisation. Spiral Taping theraphy group consisted of 11 patients and acupuncture theraphy group consisted of 10 patients. The degree of improvement of neck pain was evaluated by pressure pain threshold, VAS, and ROM before treatment and after treatment. The patients were commonly treated with acupuncture theraphy. After acupuncture Spiral Taping theraphy was performed in Spiral Taping theraphy group. Results : Pressure pain threshold and VAS were significantly different between two groups. In Spiral Taping theraphy group the pressure pain threshold of the all points was significantly increased and VAS was significantly decreased than control group. But there was no significant difference between the two groups in ROM. Conclusion : The effectiveness of Spiral Taping theraphy on low back pain and neck pain patients was shown through pressure algometer and VAS. These imply that Spiral Taping theraphy may be useful for on low back pain or neck pain. Further study is needed about Spiral Taping theraphy.
