Anti-inflammatory and Antinociceptive Activities of "Coccinia indica W.& A." Fruit Juice Powder in Animals

        GMM Rao,ChV Rao,M. Sudhakara,M M Pandey,ASK Rawat,A Sirwaikar,AB Joshi 한국생약학회 2004 Natural Product Sciences Vol.10 No.1

The fresh fruit juice powder of Coccinia indica W.&A., (Cucurbitaceae, CJP) was studied for the possible activities of antiinflammatory and antinociceptive to rationalize the folkloric use of the plant juice as rasayana. CJP at the doses of 50-200 mg/kg caused a significant (P<0.05 to P<0.001) inhibition of paw edema induced by λ carrageenin (1%) and histamine (10−3 g/ml, 0.1 ml) in rats. The effect was comparable to the standard cycloxygenase inhibitor brufen at 100 mg/kg and protective percentages were 63.41% and 65.78% respectively. Administration of CJP (50-200 mg/kg) exhibited a moderate increase of the pain threshold on analgesy-meter induced mechanical pain. However CJP significantly prevented the writhing induced by acetic acid in mice and the percentages of inhibitions were 16.98%-35.47%, which is equivalent to 36.67% produced by brufen. These data indicate that the fruit juice of Coccinia indica rationalizes the traditional system of medicine.

Anti-diabetic and anti-oxidative effect of composite extract of leaves of some Indian plants on alloxan induced diabetic wistar rats

        Brahm Kumar Tiwari,Syed Ibrahim Rizvi,Kanti Bhooshan Pandey,Nidhi Jaiswal,A. B. Abidi 한국약제학회 2014 Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation Vol.44 No.3

Use of plant based remedies for the preventionand treatment of diabetic complications over conventionaltherapies have received much emphasis in recent years. Present study was performed to evaluate the protectiveeffect of composite extract (CE) of leaves of Aeglemarmelos, Ocimum sanctum, Murraya koenigii and Azadirachtaindica on biochemical alterations in alloxan(ALX) induced diabetic wistar rats. Diabetes was inducedin rats by a single administration of ALX (150 mg/kgintraperitoneal (i.p) and CE at three different doses (25, 50and 100 mg/kg/bw/day) were administrated orally in threegroup of diabetic rats for 35 days. Another group of samenumber of diabetic rats were administrated by insulin(6 unit/kg/bw/day) by subcutaneous injection for 35 days andused as standard. Results showed that oral administration ofCE significantly protected the biochemical impairments indiabetic rats as evidenced by restoration of glutathionedepletion, ascorbic acid level, plasma antioxidant valuesand inhibition of lipid peroxidation. The outcome of thestudy suggests that CE of A. marmelos, O. sanctum, M. koenigii and A. indica leaves mimics insulin and passescapacity to ameliorate the hyperglycemia induced cellularcomplications thus may control the development and progressionof diabetes.

A multiwavelength analysis of a collection of short-duration GRBs observed between 2012 and 2015

        Pandey, S B,Hu, Y,Castro-Tirado, Ao J,Pozanenko, A S,,nchez-Ramí,rez, R,Gorosabel, J,Guziy, S,Jelinek, M,Tello, J C,Jeong, S,Oates, S R,Zhang, B-B,Mazaeva, E D,Volnova, A A,Minaev, P Yu Oxford University Press 2019 MONTHLY NOTICES- ROYAL ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY Vol.485 No.4

<B>Abstract</B><P>We investigate the prompt emission and the afterglow properties of short-duration gamma-ray burst (sGRB) 130603B and another eight sGRB events during 2012-2015, observed by several multiwavelength facilities including the Gran Canarias Telescope 10.4 m telescope. Prompt emission high energy data of the events were obtained by INTEGRAL-SPI-ACS, Swift-BAT, and Fermi-GBM satellites. The prompt emission data by INTEGRAL in the energy range of 0.1-10 MeV for sGRB 130603B, sGRB 140606A, sGRB 140930B, sGRB 141212A, and sGRB 151228A do not show any signature of the extended emission or precursor activity and their spectral and temporal properties are similar to those seen in case of other short bursts. For sGRB 130603B, our new afterglow photometric data constrain the pre-jet-break temporal decay due to denser temporal coverage. For sGRB 130603B, the afterglow light curve, containing both our new and previously published photometric data is broadly consistent with the ISM afterglow model. Modeling of the host galaxies of sGRB 130603B and sGRB 141212A using the LePHARE software supports a scenario in which the environment of the burst is undergoing moderate star formation activity. From the inclusion of our late-time data for eight other sGRBs we are able to: place tight constraints on the non-detection of the afterglow, host galaxy, or any underlying ‘kilonova’ emission. Our late-time afterglow observations of the sGRB 170817A/GW170817 are also discussed and compared with the sub-set of sGRBs.</P>

Determination of Double-K Fracture Parameters of Concrete Using Split-Tension Cube

        Shashi Ranjan Pandey,Shailendra Kumar,A. K. L. Srivastava 한국콘크리트학회 2016 International Journal of Concrete Structures and M Vol.10 No.2

This paper presents a revised procedure for computation of double-K fracture parameters of concrete split-tension cube specimen using weight function of the centrally cracked plate of finite strip with a finite width. This is an improvement over the previous work of the authors in which the determination of double-K fracture parameters of concrete for split-tension cube test using weight function of the centrally cracked plate of infinite strip with a finite width was presented. In a recent research, it was pointed out that there are great differences between a finite strip and an infinite strip regarding their weight function and the solution of infinite strip can be utilized in the split-tension specimens when the notch size is very small. In the present work, improved version of LEFM formulas for stress intensity factor, crack mouth opening displacement and crack opening displacement profile presented in the recent research work are incorporated. The results of the double-K fracture parameters obtained using revised procedure and the previous work of the authors is compared. The double-K fracture parameters of split-tension cube specimen are also compared with those obtained for standard three point bend test specimen. The input data required for determining double-K fracture parameters for both the specimen geometries for laboratory size specimens are obtained using well known version of the Fictitious Crack Model.

GIS based infrastructure planning of Cold Storages for Crop Preservation: a case study of Kolar District, Karnataka

        A Abhinav,VA Chethan,Shruti Pancholi,P Danuta Mohan,Shaik Mohammed Rayyan,Kamal Pandey 대한공간정보학회 2022 Spatial Information Research Vol.30 No.4

Infrastructure plays a vital role in the growth, performance, and alleviating poverty of a country. India is the second-largest producer of agriculture, requires proper infrastructure like roads, storage facilities, etc. which makes the development, location, and the number of cold storages vital in reducing the expenditure for the farmers as well as ensuring food security. Kolar district, situated in the South-eastern part of Karnataka is a leading producer of fruits and vegetables and faces a shortage of proper infrastructure for agriculture. An attempt is done to use geospatial technologies for analyzing the existing cold storage facilities in the district. The study reveals that the district faces a severe shortage of cold storage and is not evenly distributed which makes the farmer travel long distances to the nearest such facility. The spatial clustering-based approach is used to propose locations for new cold storage facilities. The study reveals that the study area requires a total of 50 new cold storage distributed throughout the district and proposed cold storage facilities will reduce the maximum distance to the nearest cold storage from 50.97 km to 13.98 km.

Damage prediction of RC containment shell under impact and blast loading

A.K. Pandey 국제구조공학회 2010 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.36 No.6

There is world wide concern for safety of nuclear power installations after the terrorist attack on World Trade Center in 2001 and several other civilian structures in the last decade. The nuclear containment structure in many countries is a double shell structure (outer shell a RCC and inner a prestressed concrete). The outer reinforced concrete shell protects the inner shell and is designed for external loading like impact and blast. A comparative study of non-linear response of reinforced concrete nuclear containment cylindrical shell subjected to impact of an aircraft (Phantom) and explosion of different amounts of blast charges have been presented here. A material model which takes into account the strain rate sensitivity in dynamic loading situations, plastic and visco-plastic behavior in three dimensional stress state and cracking in tension has been developed earlier and implemented into a finite element code which has been validated with published literature. The analysis has been made using the developed software. Significant conclusions have been drawn for dissimilarity in response (deflections, stresses, cracks etc.) of the shell for impact and blast loading.

Evaluation of Genetic Variability in Kenkatha Cattle by Microsatellite Markers

        Pandey, A.K.,Sharma, Rekha,Singh, Yatender,Prakash, B.,Ahlawat, S.P.S. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2006 Animal Bioscience Vol.19 No.12

Kenkatha cattle, a draft purpose breed, which can survive in a harsh environment on low quality forage, was explored genetically exploiting FAO-suggested microsatellite markers. The microsatellite genotypes were derived by means of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) followed by electrophoretic separation in agarose gels. The PCR amplicons were visualized by silver staining. The allelic as well as genotypic frequencies, heterozygosities and gene diversity were estimated using standard techniques. A total of 125 alleles was distinguished by the 21 microsatellite markers investigated. All the microsatellites were highly polymorphic with mean allelic number of 5.95${\pm}$1.9 (ranging from 3-10 per locus). The observed heterozygosity in the population ranged between 0.250 and 0.826 with a mean of 0.540${\pm}$0.171, signifying considerable genetic variation. Bottleneck was examined assuming all three mutation models which showed that the population has not experienced bottleneck in recent past. The population displayed a heterozygote deficit of 21.4%. The study suggests that the breed needs to be conserved by providing purebred animals in the breeding tract.

Wet Air Oxidation Pretreatment of Mixed Lignocellulosic Biomass to Enhance Enzymatic Convertibility

        ( A Sharma ),( A Ghosh ),( R A Pandey ),( S N Mudliar ) 한국화학공학회 2015 Korean Chemical Engineering Research(HWAHAK KONGHA Vol.53 No.2

The present work explores the potential of wet air oxidation (WAO) for pretreatment of mixed lignocellulosic biomass to enhance enzymatic convertibility. Rice husk and wheat straw mixture (1:1 mass ratio) was used as a model mixed lignocellulosic biomass. Post-WAO treatment, cellulose recovery in the solid fraction was in the range of 86% to 99%, accompanied by a significant increase in enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose present in the solid fraction. The highest enzymatic conversion efficiency, 63% (by weight), was achieved for the mixed biomass pretreated at 195 °C, 5 bar, 10 minutes compared to only 19% in the untreated biomass. The pretreatment under the aforesaid condition also facilitated 52% lignin removal and 67% hemicellulose solubilization. A statistical design of experiments on WAO process conditions was conducted to understand the effect of process parameters on pretreatment, and the predicted responses were found to be in close agreement with the experimental data. Enzymatic hydrolysis experiments with WAO liquid fraction as diluent showed favorable results with sugar enhancement up to 10.4 g L-1.
