A New Perspective on IT Capabilities and Firm Performance: Focusing on Dual Roles of Institutional Pressures

To provide a fundamental understanding on the inherent relationship between IT capabilities and sustainable firm heterogeneity, we investigate the dual roles that institutional pressures play, namely, as antecedents of IT capabilities and as moderator of the relationship between IT capabilities and IT innovation success, where IT innovation success plays a mediating role between IT capabilities and firm performance. The structural model was tested, and the results of the PLS analysis provided general support for the proposed hypotheses. IT capabilities had an indirect effect mediated by IT innovation success on firm performance. With IT activities assumed to be embedded in the institutional context, the dual roles of institutional pressures are verified. This study contributes to the literature on IT capabilities by considering both the determining role of institutional pressures on IT capabilities and the institutional context of the chain that connects IT capabilities to firm performance. The results suggest that a firm not only manages various institutional pressures to foster its IT capabilities but also adapts to different contexts with a certain level of institutional pressures to facilitate its IT capabilities and outperform its competitors, which could be sustained through IT innovation success.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is to assumed to be one of next generation technology which determine technological competitiveness and strategic advantage of a certain country. By using the patent data, this study aims to have a comparative analysis of the technological competitiveness of evolving artificial intelligence at different stages of development among the five largest intellectual property offices in the world (IP5). For the analysis data, all AI technology patent data from 1956 to 2019 were utilized according to the classification system presented in the "WIPO 2019 Technology Trend: Artificial Intelligence" report published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2019. The results shows that China has already surpassed the United States in terms of the number of patent applications in the field of artificial intelligence technology. However, in the domains of the United States, Europe, Japan, and Korea, the technology competitiveness of the United States is far ahead of China. Interestingly, the rate of increase of Korea's technology competitiveness is also very fast, and it has been shown that the technology strength is ahead of China in non-Chinese domains. The significance of this study can be found in the fact that the temporal and spatial change process of technological competitiveness of significant countries in the field of artificial intelligence technology artificial intelligence was viewed as a macro-framework using the technology index (TS) the differences were compared.

중국기업의 SCM 성공요인 및 경영성과에 관한 실증분석

This paper investigates the success factors of SCM and the consequences of the supply chain collaboration efforts. From the review of the literature, we set ‘top management support’, ‘business process standardization and integration’, ‘interdependence’ and ‘mutual trust’ as the four success factors and the independent variables affect the collaboration through ‘IT applications’ and ‘information sharing.’ The ‘information sharing’ further impacts the different kinds of firm performance. We have proposed a structural model on those variables and the model was empirically tested by using survey data from 207 firms in Shanghai, China. Most of the hypotheses we proposed are statistically significant except the path from ‘mutual trust’ to ‘information sharing.’ We have provided explanations and implications on the research results, and then we also suggest some future research with its limitations.

Today in many industries one cannot expect to have customer satisfaction (service satisfaction)without organizational commitment (loyalty). Especially, hotel industry is much dependent on human service compared to other industries and therefore if the service of loyalty (organizational commitment) of the staff is not achieved, the hotel will lose its merit(product value) and the organizational target (maximization of profit) will not easily achieved. This study has resulted as below through an empirical analysis of how satisfaction in communication can affect organizational commitment.

Patterns of Collaboration Networks

본 연구는 정보 시스템 분야에서 최고 학술지 중 하나인 MIS Quarterly를 중심으로 공저자 관계를 설명하고 논문을 게재한 연구자들의 협력 네트워크 패턴을 살펴보고자 하였다. 1996년부터 2004년까지 MIS Quarterly에 게재된 242편의 논문 공저자 네트워크에 대한 사회연결망분석을 통해 그 해답을 찾고자 하였다. 공저자 자료에 대한 사회연결망분석 결과 이 기간 MIS Quarterly 전체 불 완전 네트워크는 낮은 밀도를 나타내고 있다. 따라서, 세 개의 서브네트워크들을 대상으로 분석을 진행하고 그 서브네트워크에서 중요 역할을 하는 저자가 누구인지를 분석하였다. 다음으로, 키워드 분류 스키마에 따라 분류된 논문에서 관련된 데이터를 수집 및 코딩을 하여 MIS Quarterly 커뮤니티에 세 개의 중요한 협력 패턴이 존재함을 분석 및 확인하였다. 마지막으로 각 서브네트워크의 중심에 있는 연구 키워드들에 근거하여 협력 네트워크 패턴을 제시하고 시사점들을 논의하였다. The study investigates the co-authorship networks of MIS Quarterly as one of the leading journals in IS field and examines patterns of collaboration networks of the intellectuals. These issues are addressed through a systematic Social Network Analysis (SNA) of 242 articles published from 1996 to 2004 in MIS Quarterly. Results of coauthorship network analysis indicate that the whole incomplete network has a low degree of density. Thus, we analyzed three biggest sub-networks to find out who the key players of each sub-network are. Then, following the keyword classification scheme, relevant data from the articles were collected and coded to analyze three major co- authorship networks of MIS Quarterly community. Some implications are drawn from different research keywords of each sub-network.

This paper is an exploratory research to search for technological innovation theory in our daily life by adopting the concept of sociomateriality. Unprecedented new technology revolution, the upcoming New Normal Era, and the crisis of Covid 19 pandemic accelerate the paradigm shift from one era to another. Pervasive digital transformation and the age of the individual call for the theory of technological innovation in our everyday life. To propose a conceptual framework, this paper bridges seemingly paradoxical concepts of “social” and “material” by adopting the definition of technology as routine capability. Assuming the duality of technology and dual roles of institutional pressures, the sociomateriality of technology is bound to be improvised and imbricated over time. The technology-in-practice has its value and meaning “now and here” in a specific temporal and spatial context, and only when the technology-in-use continuously innovated in our daily life, can it influence the upper level of innovations. This paper is just a humble step towards the theory development of technology innovation in daily life with some limitations, but it also sheds light on some future research work.

연구논문(硏究論文) : 사회교환관점에서 고객시민행동의 영향변수에 관한 연구 -서울지역 특1급 휘트니스 멤버십 이용고객을 중심으로-

The customer in general plays an important role in terms of production and delivery of services in the service industry, unlike in the manufacturing industry. In line with this, a number of studies assert that customers in the service industry should be regarded as a "partial employee" or a "temporary employee" and also give direction about what kind of efforts should be made by service companies to raise customer voluntary performances; in other words customer citizenship behavior. For this, what is the antecedent variables that influences customer citizenship behavior, I initially adopted variables selected by a social exchange point of view. As a result of the analysis, ``customer satisfaction`` from a social exchange point of view, ``customer confidence``, ``justice perception``, ``perceived support of customers``, were selected as the antecedent variables of customer citizenship behavior. Depending on this study result, the hotel industry should give it`s best effort to make hotel fitness club members who are a steady source of hotel income and have long-term relationships with the hotel to become a lifetime member through developing various marketing activities and special programs.
