The relationship between the medical profession and the pharmaceutical industry has received considerable attention in recent years in Korea. In this article we examine the impact of physician-pharmaceutical industry interaction (PPII) on physician prescriptions. While physicians` decisions concerning prescriptions are influenced by many factors, two of the most influential are the visits of sales representatives from pharmaceutical companies and the gifts and other enticements that pharmaceutical companies provide for physicians. Patients regard gifts from pharmaceutical companies as less appropriate and more influential than do physicians. Inappropriate relations between physicians and pharmaceutical companies can damage physician-patient relationships and harm the medical profession as a whole. Recent investigations in the United States and Korea have found many illegalities in physician-pharmaceutical industry interaction. The article argues for the urgent need to develop clear ethical codes and compliance mechanisms concerning PPII.
일 농촌지역에서 알코올 남용 및 의존의 유병률 및 연관 변수

Objective:The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence in a rural area of Korea and to examine the relationship between those prevalences and sociodemographic characteristics of subjects. Method:This study was done as a part of the chronic disease survey of rural area by the Asan Foundation. Among 30 years or older population from Jung Eup, a rural area of Korea, 1734 subjects was sampled using a cluster probability sampling method. Trained interviewers visited and interviewed subjects aged 30 years or older with the alcoholism part of Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI). Response rate was 68.1% (N=1191). Results:The lifetime prevalence of alcohol abuse and dependence in male subjects were 36.0% and 17.5%, respectively. Those of female subjects were 6.7% and 1.6%, respectively. These estimate are similar to those of previous community study. The frequency of alcohol intake in male respondents was 10 times or more a month, but the amount of alcohol intake was dramatically dropped in group 60 years old and over. According to the logistic regression analysis, male and 50 to 69 aged group were significantly more likely to report lifetime or 12 month alcohol dependence. Low education seemed to be correlated with alcoholism, but did not reach statistically significant level. Conclusion:Alcohol abuse and dependence were highly prevalent in the rural community of Korea. Further study about the influence of the alcohol on brain and other organs in community indwellers will be needed for further understanding of the severity of alcohol use and related problems in Korea.
전산해석을 통한 석탄 및 오일샌드 역청의 가스화 특성 비교

In order to find ways to effectively and efficient usage of coal and oil sand, which has abundant mining reserve, this study uses computational analysis to determine gasification properties of bitumen extracted from coal and oil-sand. To do so, it develops gasification analysis model, and determine gasification performance such as gasification temperature, syngas composition, and cold gas efficiency, etc., by using major variable such as oxygen and steam mass changes. Base from mass ratio from fuel, oxygen and steam mass ratio’s range has been set between 0.5~2.0 and 0.0~1.0, and see how it affects the gasification performance. The range of oxygen/fuel ratio (for KPC, 0.5~0.8, for bitumen, 0.5~1.1) where KPC (Kaltim Prima Coal) or bitumen reduced by gasification reaction, when the oxygen/fuel ratio has increased by 0.8~0.9, gasification temperature, CO emission, H₂ emission, and cold gas efficiency has shown maximum value, and its value seems to be decreasing after oxygen/fuel ratio has passed 0.9. When steam/fuel ratio increased, gasification temperature and CO emission value has steady decreased, while H2 emission has increased steadily.

Exhaust gases emitted from internal combustion engines contain nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx), which are major air pollutants causing acid rain, respiratory diseases, and photochemical smog. As a countermeasure, scrubber systems are being studied extensively. In this study, the pressure drop characteristics were analyzed by changing the exhaust gas inflow velocity using a scrubber for a 700 kW engine as a model. In addition, the fluid flow inside the scrubber and the behavioral characteristics of the droplets were studied using CFD, and the design compatibility of the cleaning device was verified. Flow analysis was performed using inertial and viscous resistances by applying porous media to the complex shape of the scrubber. The speed of the exhaust passing through the outlet nozzle from the inlet was determined through the droplet behavior analysis by spraying, and the flow characteristics for the pressure drop were studied. In addition, it was confirmed through computational analysis whether there was a stagnation section in the exhaust gas flow in the scrubber or the sprayed droplets were in good contact with the exhaust gas.

This study was conducted to classify quality attributes for quality elements of public service targeting Gochang Jayeonmadang and analyze their impact on resident satisfaction and dissatisfaction by each service quality element by using the Kano model and the customer satisfaction coefficient and dissatisfaction coefficient of Timko(1993). As a result of the study, all 20 quality elements of public service were classified as one-dimensional attributes. Since the Jayeonmadang project restores the damaged natural environment and restores the ecosystem, it is judged that satisfaction is proportionately satisfied as the natural environment has been restored and the ecosystem has been restored. According to Timko (1993)’s analysis of customer satisfaction coefficient, it is believed that the most effective way to improve residents’ satisfaction is to carefully establish and implement maintenance plans and to create a good environment to ensure that plants have settled.
