The use of plastic and plastic composite as an mechanical part material is increasing dramatically. An understanding of the behavior of these materials is also advancing in attempt to keep up with the demand for increasing application. Especially, plastic gear have positioned themselves as serious alternative to traditional metal gears in a wide variety of application. Plastic gear provide a number of advantages over metal gears such as less weight, quieter, lower cost. But the use of plastic gears is restricted by a lack of strength and wear performance. Generally, the frictional properties of plastic can be improved by containing of wear resistants such as MoS₂, PTFE or Si. However, the inclusion of these wear resistants decreases the mechanical properties of plastic such as tensile strength, elongation, hardness and impact strength. On this study, as an attempt to maximize nylon6 vhich has being developed as an EPS gear frictional properties. while minimizing a decrease in the mechanical properties, various kinds of glass fiber reinforced nylon6 containing MoS₂, PTFE, Si were prepared and the synergy effects to improved both friction and mechanical properties have been studied.
