The flow characteristics around a rudder in open water condition is analyzed by the computational method. Reynolds averaged Navier-Stoke's equation is utilized for the computation. The computational hydrodynamic force coefficients are verified through comparing with the experimental results. The information of these flow characteristics is necessary to predict cavitation and maneuvering performances, to estimate steering gear capacitance, and to get the bending moment which is useful for the structural analysis. The pressure distribution, the three-dimensional flow separation, and the tip vortices are investigated. The pattern of the three-dimensional flow separation is analyzed utilizing a topological rule. The tip vortices are also investigated through a visualization technique.

The flow around a ship is complex, especially, at the stern region of a full ship, where highly curved streamlines, hook-shaped iso-velocity contours, and strong secondary flow exist. To resolve this complex flow, an Algebraic Stress Model(ASM) is applied. The calculations are performed for the HSVA Tanker. The results are improved comparing with those of standard k-ε turbulence model, but still show a little difference from the experiments.

We propose an OpenMP based parallelization technique to improve computational performance for solving Poisson equation in a commercial casting analysis software (AnyCastingTM). The Poisson equation is solved using Red-Black Gauss-Seidel method under practical constraints that admit a large tolerance but provide reasonable results within a limited computational time. Profiling the module for the Poisson equation solver indicates poor convergence locally in the computational domain. To improve the solution convergence, we consider the following two procedures; 1) redistributing pre-assigned processors only to sub-domains where solution is not converged, and 2) updating the solution after a few sub-iterations for solving the Poisson equation in the entire domain. The present method provides a better load balance and reduces the computational time by about 20%, while maintaining the solution accuracy in the original method.

The current study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of a locally-produced recombinant porcine somatotropin (pST) on growth perfermance and pork quality of finishing pigs. A total of 32 barrows weighing average 61kg were employed for the 6-week growth trial : 8 barrows were allocated into the control group (CONT): 8 barrows into the slow release-low dose pST group (SR-L); 8 barrows into the solve release - high dose pST group (SR-H); 8 barrows into the daily pST group(DAILY). CONT pigs received no pST. SR-L and SR-H pigs were treated with pST twice during 6 week trial(Each dose contained the pST equavalent to 50 ㎍ and 100 ㎍ per day, respectively). DAILY pigs received 100 ㎍ pST/㎏ B W daily. All pigs were fed a commercial feed containing 0.87% lysine ad lib. There was no significant difference in average daily gain among treatments. Feed/gain was reduced by 20% in DAILY (3.09 vs 3.85; p$lt;0.05) and 11% in SR-H (3.43 vs 3.84; p$lt;0.05) compared to the CONT. Backfat of the DAILY group was 20% thinner than that of the CONT and loin eye area was wider by 17% (p$lt;0.05) in DAILY group, compared to the CONT. The extent of the improvement in growth perfermance of SR groups was less (p$lt;0.05) than that of DAILY group. There were no significant differences in the color, juiciness, flavor and texture of pork among treatments, with the tenderness of DAILY group being less desirable compared to that of CONT group. Moisture content of DAILY group was higher (p$lt;0.05) than that of CONT group, while lipid content was reduced in DAILY group. SR group showed the middle values between CONT and DAILY group in most criteria on growth performance and pork quality investigated. These results indicated that the recombinant pST produced by LG Chem., Ltd., Korea stimulated growth performance in growing pigs and did not show any major negative effects on pork quility, suggesting that slow release pST could be used as a growth stimulant for growing pigs.
