Vol.20 No.2

Since it has been reported that vanadate inhibits $Ca^{++}-ATPase$ activity without affecting $Ca^{++}$ uptake, this study was undertaken to investigate the effects of vanadate on $Ca^{++}-ATPase$ activity and $Ca^{++}$ uptake in the sarcoplasmic reticulum of rat skeletal muscle. The following results were obtained. 1) $Ca^{++}$ activated ATPase activity of the intact sarcoplasmic reticulum was significantly inhibited when vanadate was added to the incubation medium at concentration greater than $10^{-6}\;M$. However $Mg^{++}$-ATPase activity of the intact SR was not affected by vanadate at concentrations ranging from $10^{-7}\;to\;10^{-4}\;M.$ Similarly, $Ca^{++}-ATPase$ activity in sonicated sarcoplasmic reticulum was significantly reduced by vanadate at a concentration $10^{-7}$ M or higher. 2) The uptake of $Ca^{++}$ by isolated sarcoplasmic reticulum was also inhibited by vanadate under the conditions where the turnover rate of $Ca^{++}-ATPase$ was made to increase. These results suggest that the inhibition of $Ca^{++}$ uptake by vanadate may be correlated with that of $Ca^{++}-ATPase$ if experimental conditions are properly set.

        수면호흡장애와 대사적 기능장애

Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is associated with increased cardiovascular and cerebrovascular morbidity. Epidemiological and clinic-based studies have shown that SDB is related to impaired glucose tolerance and increased insulin resistance, independent of obesity. Despite of a consistent association between SDB and impaired glucose-insulin metabolism, the mechanism underlying this relationship has not been fully elucidated. It is recognized that hypoxemia and hypercapnia that occur in SDB provoke sympathetic nervous activity and catecholamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine, and cortisol are released. Sympathetic hyperactivity and increased catecholamines can impair glucose homeostasis by increasing glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis, which can result in increased circulating insulin levels and increased risk of insulin resistance. A prospective study is needed to investigate the causal relationship between SDB and impaired glucose-insulin metabolism in a healthy population without diabetes, hypertension and obesity as etiologic risk factors.

중년여성의 신체활동이 폐기능, 체력에 미치는 영향

        신철,이혜련,주순재,정복자,홍양자 한국유산소운동과학회 2002 대한스포츠융합학회지 (jcses) Vol.6 No.2

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of physical activity on pulmonary function, and grip strength, back strength and whole reaction time of middle-aged Korean women. The subjects of 796 subjects were randomly selected and participated at Ansan Health Study, Korea University Medical Center in Korea. The subjects were divided into two groups. Exercise group has 338 individuals (aged 47.4±5.4 years) who have been exercising at least three times a week for more than 6 months. Non-exercise group has 431 individuals (aged 46.7+5.3 years) who have not been exercising currently. The pulmonary function Testing(sensor Medics 2130, USA) including forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume (FEV) in the first second (FEV1), FVC/FEV1, maximal voluntary ventilation (MVV) and % MVV were evaluated. Physical fitness test included grip strength (Grip-D TKK5101, Japan.), back strength (Back-D, TKK5102 Japan) and whole reaction time (Whole Body Reaction Measuring Equipment, PKS1027, Korea). Questionnaire was used to evaluate the exercise patterns including intensity, mode, duration and period of subjects. Statistical analyses were performed using the paired latest, univariate, ANOVA and Sheffe analyses with SPSS package. The results of this study thought this method and process can be summarized as follows. Grip strength, back strength, whole reaction time, MVV and % MVV (P<0.05) in exercise group were significantly (p<0.001) higher than those of non-exercise group. In exercise group, significantly increased grip strength, back strength (p<0.001) and % MVV (P<0.05) were found in subjects who exercised in more than 3METs for a day compared with those of subjects in less than 1 METs for a day, respectively. With regard to exercise mode such as walking, swimming significantly (p<0.05) increased MVV and % MVV, also back strength, grip strength and reaction time were significantly in weight -bearing exercise than the other exercise mode.
