Purpose: This study aimed to report the current trends in the management of the hallux valgus (HV) deformity over the last few decades through a survey of the Korean Foot and Ankle Society (KFAS) members. Materials and Methods: A web-based questionnaire containing 34 questions was sent to all KFAS members in September 2021. The questions were mainly related to the preferred techniques and clinical experience in correction in patients with an HV deformity. Answers with a prevalence of ≥50% of respondents were considered a tendency. Results: One hundred and nine (19.8%) of the 550 members responded to the survey. The most common symptom for determining surgical treatment was bunion pain (68.8%), and different surgical techniques were selected according to the following radiological parameters: HV angle 30 to 40 degrees and intermetatarsal angle 15 to 20 degrees. The two procedures most preferred by the respondents were distal chevron osteotomy (55.0%), and proximal chevron osteotomy (21.1%). In an average of 71.6% of respondents, Arkin osteotomy was performed simultaneously during HV surgery. HV accompanied by an overriding deformity of the second toe was most often addressed with a combination of second metatarsal osteotomy and soft tissue rebalancing procedure (35.8%). After HV surgery, the recurrence rate of HV deformity was found to be 12.2% on average and the surgeons who had performed minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for HV comprised 34.9% of the total respondents. Conclusion: This study provides updated information on the current trends in the management of the HV deformity in Korea. Both consensus and variation in the approach to patients with HV were identified by this survey study. Although MIS for HV has increased, it appears the consensus for selecting this method has not yet been established.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause (70%) of children injury and fatality. 98% of Children under the age of 9 who came to emergency room with a traffic accident are not seated in CRS. Reduction in mortality when using CRS (NHTSA study), 71% for infants of 1-2 years old, 54% for 3-6 years old and 7-12 years old. It is very important and essential to use CRS for child passenger safety. But in Korean market, the CRS fitment rate is relatively low (20~40%). For European market, at the start of 2013, Euro NCAP started to check how easy it is to install the most common seats. And US market, NHTSA is planning a new consumer information program of CRS fitment for near future. This study examines CRS installation performance of 3 vehicles which are produced by GM Korea and 21 CRS which are based on sales volume in Korean market. Purpose of this study is to identify both vehicle and CRS design that causes bad interaction for CRS installation.

In a reinforced concrete structure, coupler construction is easier to install than jointing or welding reinforcing bars, so it is possible to work by one person. When constructing a reinforcing bar coupler, the coupler construction method must be different for each member that receives a large tensile force or a member that receives a small tensile strength. Various coupler products are used in the global construction market, and the quality, performance, and cost of reinforcing bar joints vary from product to product. This study compares and analyzes the quality and cost of representative rebar couplers according to the requirements using the quality house of QFD-HOQ. The case study presents a quality and cost improvements strategy through QFD-HOQ analysis of rebar couplers.

To prevent accidents in construction work, all project participants and workers must first be aware of the type of injury and the level of risk in each work stage. Safety managers can make effective safety planning through risk assessment and accident causes analysis. The QFD-FMEA model is designed to systematically prepare a risk assessment, accident cause analysis, and safety measures for construction accidents at each work stage. This study presents a case study of risk assessment and safety checklist based on the hazards for demolition work stages using the QFD-FMEA model.
