It is well known that the majority of the emissions measured from vehicle exhaust in the US Federal Test Procedure(FTP-75) are emitted during the first 60 seconds. This paper describes an experimental study on SI engine emissions reduction after cold start with interval secondary air injection and coolant control. Secondary air injection after cold start to reduce exhaust emissions causes an exothermic reaction at the exhaust port and gives sufficient air to the catalyst. For that reason ‘ engine-out emissions oxidized in the exhaust port and the rapid heating of a catalytic converter after cold start with CSAI and ISAI are estimated<br/> The influence of the coolant temperature on SI engine emissions has been estimated. In the present study ’‘ coolant control of the cylinder head temperature is used to investigate the effect of coolant temperature on SI engine emissions<br/> The results show that engine-out hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions are considerably reduced with interval secondary air injection and coolant control.

Recently, LPLi(Liquied-Phase LPG injection) system is studied for the new stringent emission regulations. But,<br/> there are some problems to be solved such as injector tip icing and fuel leakage for LPLi system development.<br/> Icing is closely related to the temperature of the intake port wall surrounding the injector and the variation of the<br/> LPG fuel pressure. Also, the shape of the injector tip, injector installed position and the number of injector holes are<br/> factors for icing. In this study, the icing characteristic of the LPLi injection system was investigated with<br/> visualization test rig, which was installed thermocouples, fuel compressor equipments, and injector controller.<br/> The icing of the injector tip can be affected by the materials related to heat transfer. The variation of temperature<br/> surrounding injector tip was observed with injector position, fuel pressure, and the number of injector holes.
LPLi 엔진 인젝터 주위의 Icing 방지를 위한 설계 변수의 실험적 연구

Compared to the conventional mixer system, the LPLi system can fine control the air fuel ratio, and thus resulting in outstanding emission reduction and power. But there are a few problems in the development. One of them is the Icing that occurs at the tip of the injector.<br/> If an Icing particle enters the combustion chamber, it effects the combustion and has the following problems; When the Icing particles enter the cylinder, the visualization has been performed the intake manifold and the injector tip. And the analysis of the exhaust gas shows that HC, CO, and O₂ increases while CO₂ and NOχ decreases after the<br/> Icing particle flows in the cylinder. These results are similar to when the combustion is unstable, and a rich value of the air-fuel ratio also proves incomplete combustion.<br/> An aim of this study removes the Icing from the injector tip. First, design parameter for removing the Icing, the O-ring Retainer changes plastic material to metallic material. Second, regarding to spray angle, injector insert depth is 7~10mm. Third, the injector insert hole diameter is about 10mm. It makes heat transfer between the injector tip and the intake manifold. Last, it is minimize depth of insulator.<br/>

In recent years the needs for development of high performance, better fuel-economy, and low emission gasoline engine increase. To meet the current and future stringent emission regulations, EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation) that prevent knocking, improves fuel economy and reduce NO, emission is needed. In particular, E-EGR(Electronic Exhaust Gas Recirculation) is required to apply EGR to direct injection engine and lean combustion engine.<br/> The work presented in this paper addresses the effects on combustion of recycling cooled exhaust gas to the inlet charge of a standard production and the distribution of A/F ratio in each cylinder, four cylinder 1.5L, SI engine.
