N/A Malnutrition is known to be an independent risk factor of morbidity and mortality in hemodialysis patients. The causes of malnutrition were obsucure. Several catabolic cytokines such as interleukin-1β(IL-1β), interleukin-6(IL-6), and tumar necrosis fac-tor-α(TNF-α) were reported to be elevated in hemo-dialysis patients with malnutrition, To evaluate the nutritrional status and relationship among cytokines IL-1β, TNF-α, and various parameters, we performed a cross-sectional study in maintenance hemodialysis patients who have undergone for six months at least. Patients who were taking steroid. showed any sign of infection, or had residual renal function were excluded from the study. Nutritional status was classified into well nourished(A), mild to moderate malnutrition(B), and severe malnutrition(C) by using subjective global assessment(SGA). Patients were divided into two groups (I: A, II: B and C) based on SGA. The level of IL-10, TNF-a were estimated by ELISA. Total patients were 23(M/F:15/8 mean age 52.0±1.56yrs). There were significant differences in weight changes for 6 months, CRP, and SGA between two groups based on the level of serum albumin(using 4.0g/dL as a cutoff value). Moreover, based on SGA, there were significant differences in age, BMI, CRP, and albumin between the group I and IL Serum albumin levels was directly correlated with transferrin(r=0.302, p=0.04), and was inversly correlated with age(r=-0.329, p=0.007). TNF- u was inversly correlated with Kt/Vueea(r=-0.291, p= 0.047), and directly correlated with the duration of maintenance hemodialysis(r=0,346, p=0.036), BMI(r-0.453, p<0.05). These data support the fact that albumin and CRP can be a good marker of nutritional status in maintenance hemodialysis patient. However cytokines and transferrin might not be related to nutritional status.

This paper describes a piezoelectric pump using the silicon diaphragm with aluminum plate and spring. The piezoelectric pump uses a hinge-lever mechanism to amplify the displacement of multilayered PZT actuator. No-load flow rate and load characteristic of fabricated piezoelectric pump were tested. The fabricated piezoelectric pump of 80 ㎜ diameter and 65 ㎜ length achieves maximum flow rate and output pressure of 790 ㎖/min and 9.7 kPa, respectively, at an applied voltage of 100 V and operating frequency of 6 ㎐. Future works will focus on the application of the liquid cooling system for heat rejection of high power electronic devices existing in computers and fuel cell etc.

Thermal deformation occurs in the welding of steel structures. The thermal deformation due to the high temperature while welding resulted in poor quality of the manufacturing products. In this research, thermal deformation analysis for CO₂ welding of an H-type frame in a commercial vehicle was performed by using the finite element method. Welding process variables such as welding sequence, clamping position, clamping time, and cooling time were simulated. The calculated deformation shapes were compared to the measured deformation shapes, resulting in a good correlation.

In order to evaluate the endurance life of a vehicle suspension part, durability analysis and test were performed in this paper. Torque rod is a suspension part to improve the maneuvering stability of the commercial vehicle. The torque rod consisted of rod, end body, bush, and pin. Since the bush was made of rubber, uniaxial and equi-biaxial tests were performed to characterize the stress-strain behavior. Finite element stress analysis of the torque rod was performed to obtain the stress distributions and the critical location of the torque rod. Based on the stress analysis results, durability life was estimated. It was found that the pin groove was the most vulnerable to fatigue cracking, and verified in the durability fatigue tests. The durability life was improved by modifying the pin dimension to meet the specification of the torque rod.

As the water hydraulics is more and more highlighted in wide applications, many varieties of research on design, materials and manufacturing methods of water hydraulic components have been carried out. Especially, the water hydraulic piston pump used to be the subject of study in relation to its tilting cam drive mechanism. However, in spite of same operating mechanism with various relative sliding parts, the water hydraulic axial piston pump have more friction and leakage than oil hydraulic one because of lower viscosity and poor lubricated condition by using tap water as working fluid. Therefore, in order to reduce the friction and leakage, rod type pistons and Birfield joint as a constant velocity drive of the tilting cam are adopted. In this paper, we have designed the tilting cam drive mechanism consist of rod type pistons and Birfield joint, and analyzed the drive characteristics of it.

Water hydraulics instead of conventional oil hydraulics has been used as an environment-friendly pressure medium because of high power density, pollution-free, low fire risk and so on. Especially, water hydraulic power generation pump has used to be the research subject in relation to its relative sliding movement, material, design and manufacturing methods. In this paper, we applied the engineering plastic-coated sliding components against the stainless steel to a water hydraulic power generation pump. We have designed the tilting cam drive mechanism consist of rod type pistons and constant velocity joint and analyzed the friction stress of sliding components. Finally, combining each component of verified materials, rod type piston and constant velocity joint was developed low leakage and low friction water hydraulic power generation pump with high efficiency.

Endoscapic polypectomy or incisional enucleation was performed to 10 cases of esophageal submucosal tumor, from March, 1984 to January, 1988, using biopsy forcep, loop snare with high frequency electric current. The results were as follows. 1) In 10 cases 3 were male and 7 were female, with mean age 49. 2) Tumors were located lower esophagus in 5 cases and middle esophagus in 5 cases. 3) The presenting symptoms were mainly nonspecific, not related to underlying submucosal tomor. 4) In 8 of 10 cases, the procedure was performed completely, and so tumors were removed successfully. And in 2 cases, only biopsy for pathologic diagnosis was performed. 5) Results of histologic examination of these tumors were leiomyoma in all cases, In conclusion, we recommand endoscopic polypectomy or incisional enucleation as safe and effective method for esophageal submucosal tumor to make correct pathologic diagnosis and to treat the tumor.
