Objectives : For Parkinsonian patients who had not reacted favorably on drug therapy are good candidate for ventroposterolateral pallidotomy, although not curative. We studied these patients after unilateral pallidotomy, to confirm the effectiveness and safety of this procedure. Methods : We evaluated the 17 patients with idiopathic Parkinson's diesease who had undergone unilateral posteroventral pallidotomy. All patients responded to levodopa initially. Mean age was 55 years(38-75years), and mean duration of disease was 9.8 years(3-20years). Pre-and postoperative evaluation at 3 month intervals included Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating scale(UPDRS) scoring, Hoehn and Yahr(H & Y) staging, and neuropsychological examinations. Results : Pallidotomy significantly improved parkinsonian symptom(tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia, dyskinesia, sensory symptom). Nine of 10 patients who showed dyskinesia preoperatively significant improvement. The mean dose of levodopa in 9 patients was lowered. The mean H & Y score and UPDRS score were improved in on and/or off time in 15 patients. Among patients who were not improved, one patient worsened, and the others showed no change. The mean overall UPDRS off score changed from 76 preoperatively to 44(33%) at 6 months and from 70 to 52(25%) at 1 year. Transient surgical morbidity was showen in four patients and included dysarthria, hypotonia and confusion. Conclusion : We conclude that pallidotomy is safe and effective in patients who have levodopa-reponsive parkinsonism with severe symptom fluctuation. Unilateral pallidotomy also considered helpful to ipsilateral symptom. Unilateral pallidotomy can improve all of parkinsonian's symptom and allow to reduce the levodopa medication. Most of patients show satisfactory results.

A fluidized-bed reactor with an inside diameter of 0.1 m and a height of 1.2 m was used to study the effect of steam and catalyst additions to air-blown biomass gasification on the production of producer gas. The equipment consisted of a fluidized bed reactor, a fuel supply system, a cyclone, a condenser, two receivers, steam generator and gas analyzer. Silica sand with a mean particle diameter of 380 μm was used as a bed material and calcined dolomite (356 μm), which is effective in tar reduction and producer gas purification, was used as the catalyst. Both of Korea wood pellet (KWP) and a pellet form of EFB (empty fruit bunch) which is the byproduct of Southeast Asia palm oil extraction were examined as biomass feeds. In all the experiments, the feeding rates were 50 g/min for EFB and 38 g/min for KWP, respectively at the reaction temperature of 800 oC and an ER (equivalence ratio) of 0.25. The mixing ratio (0~100 wt%) of catalyst was applied to the bed material. Air or an air-steam mixture was used as the injection gas. The SBR (steam to biomass ratio) was 0.3. The composition, tar content, and lower heating value of the generated producer gas were measured. The addition of calcined dolomite decreased tar content in the producer gas with maximum reduction of 67.3 wt%. The addition of calcined dolomite in the air gasification reduced lower heating value of the producer gas. However The addition of calcined dolomite in the air-steam gasification slightly increased its lower heating value.

화석 연료의 고갈과 온난화 현상으로 인해 새로운 에너지원에 대한 관심이 급증하고 있다. 그 중에서 바이오가스는 유기성 폐기물 및 바이오매스를 혐기성 소화과정인 가수분해(hydrolysis), 산발효(acidogenesis), 유기산발효(acetogenesis), 메탄발효(methanogenesis)의 단계를 거쳐 발생되기 때문에 친환경적인 에너지자원으로 각광받고 있다. 그러나 바이오가스는 기존의 정제설비로는 제거할 수 없는 높은 미세분진 및 수분 함량으로 인해, 직접연소, 도시가스, 자동차용 연료 등 효율적인 이용을 위해서 정제시스템이 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구는 미세분진과 수분을 동시에 제거할 수 있는 정제과정의 전처리 방법으로써 원심력을 이용하는 냉각공정을 설계하였다. 원심력을 이용하여 분진을 제거하는 Cyclone 내·외부에 열교환기와 ID fan을 구성하여 주입되는 가스를 어는점 이하로 냉각시킴으로써 물안개를 형성시켜 분진입자를 제거하고, 일부 가스를 ID fan을 이용하여 재순환시켜 제거하는 고효율 냉각제어공정을 개발하였다. 수분제거는 유량(25~150L/min) 및 상대습도(60~95%)의 조건에서 시험하였다. 수분제거율은 상대습도 95±5%일 때 평균 80.8%, 입자제거율은 입자크기 2.5 ㎛에서 평균 99.78%의 제거효율을 보였고, 수분과 입자의 동시제거효율은 수분 70.86%, 입자 99.67%의 평균 값을 보여주었다. Renewable energy has been of interests in the area of modern alternative fuels. Biogas is produced in waste landfill sites through anaerobic digestion processes, including hydrolysis, acidogenesis, organic acid fermentation (acetogenesis), and methane fermentation (methanogenesis). High contents of fine dust and moisture limited its utilization for direct combustion, town gas and vehicle fuel. Thus, this study proposed a new design for a cooling device using a centrifugal cyclone for simultaneous removal of fine dust and moisture as a pretreatment in the purification processes. A heat exchanger and an ID fan, which are installed inside and outside of the cyclone, in order to cool the humid gas below the freezing point and form a foggy mist. Such an atmosphere enhanced to capture fine dust as recirculating the cold mist flow. The water removal rate was 80.8% at a relative humidity of 95%, and the particle removal efficiency was 98.3% for 2.5 μm. Simultaneous removal efficiency was 70.8% and 99.6% for particle and moisture respectively.

As LVDC distribution is widely applied to the industry in 21st century, DC components are used in the many applications. Among various devices, A gas-insulated DC relay is frequently used in ESS and Electric Vehicle systems. In order to develop this device for the better temperature rise and actuating performance, this paper deals with optimal design process in two core components, main contact and linear actuator, respectively. By applying Taguchi method to this system, it is capable of acquiring a set of orthogonal tables with S/N(Signal to Noise) ratio values in the electro-magnetic and heat transfer simulation environments. With respect to data from the orthogonal tables, we get the optimal sets in terms of contribution degree. Based on this methodology, we are able to select an optimized combinations for the best performance.
