학습자 측면에서 살펴본 영어 구술 면담평가의 타당도와 신뢰도에 관한 요인 분석

The purposes of this study is to identify what variables are important in increasing the validity and reliability of oral interview test. from the learners' perspectives. Factor analysis was employed to identify what variables were involved. and analysis of variance was used to compare the degree of importance that students and instructors rated on these variables. According to the results of this study. variables related to testing methods. testing settings. standardization procedures, characteristics of students. students' needs and goal. and students' linguistic and social backgrounds were found to be influencing the validity and reliability of oral interview test. Especially, it was found that the variables related to students and testing environment strongly influenced the satisfaction that students felt about the test itself. And distinctive differences on the degrees of importance students and instructors rated on these variables were found. From students' perspectives. these variables are likely to limit the fun expression of their language abilities. Thus. instructors need to consider these variables carefully in the process of oral interview test to increase the validity and reliability of test.
면대면 학습환경과 CMC 기반의 학습환경에서 이루어진 상호작용이 영어 쓰기능력에 미치는 효과

The purposes of this study is to investigate what interaction strategies students in different situations (face-to-face and CMC-based) used in the process of conducting two English writing tasks. Twenty five students were assigned to a traditional group and twenty four students to a CMC-based environment. Results revealed that students in the CMC-based environment used more interaction strategies, such as cognitive, meta-cognitive, and instructional strategies in the process of interaction with students and the instructor. They also they showed more satisfaction with the English writing process than students in the traditional situation. From the results, we can conclude that CMC-based environment can provide students with more opportunities to interact with students and the instructor to get more and practical feedback, making them pay more attention to the writing process itself and leading to better achievement in English writing.

The purpose of this study is to develop an instructional model of interactive English writing course conducted in CMC based environments. The theoretical premises that a newly developed model underlies are interactive learning, self-directed learning, peer editing/revision, and process-oriented writing. In this study, it is believed that the communication functions provided by CMC environment could be a fascinating medium for facilitating the interaction between students, students and instructors. This interaction manner of CMC could enable students to have ample opportunities to revise their own writing drafts or other students' drafts continuously by the means of giving and receiving feedback from each other. The newly developed model will be helpful for instructors who plan to design a writing course in CMC-based language learning environments.
온라인 영어학습에서 학습자의 만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인 분석

The goal of this study was to suggest some implications for establishing an successful on-line English teaching and learning program in the Korean context. For this goal, the current study strived to identify what variables would influence Korean undergraduates’ satisfaction in on-line based English learning. For data collection, 328 participants were asked to complete the questionnaire with 35 items assessing how they feel about the importance of the variables involved in the on-line learning program. According to the data analysis, the results of this study indicated that variables such as learner characteristics, media features, and learning management variables were found to influence success in the on-line English learning. Also, high correlations were found among the variables of instructional design, learning material features, and learning management. Especially, variables related to instructional design, learning material features, and learning management variables were strongly influencing the satisfaction that the participants felt about the on-line based English learning itself. At the end of this study, some implications for an on-line English teaching and learning program were suggested.

The purpose of this study is to discuss the developmental procedures of an instructor-friendly EMI guidebook to facilitate EMI by reflecting the demands of instructors. For this study, the theoretical premises underlying this study were drawn from recent development of EMI guidebooks, especially at a university, "C". And a survey with 18 items was then conducted with 33 instructors who have been engaged in EMIs in "C" university. Guidebooks for EMI used in other universities were reviewed as well. On the basis of reviewing them, situations for categories and sub-categories were proposed, and expression pools for each sub-categories were generated. These expression pools were carefully reviewed, discarded, added, or edited to fit for the characteristics of "C" university by 5 English experts including researchers. Basic format for presenting expressions was developed and around 900 expressions were included in a newly developed EMI guidebook. It is hoped that this guidebook is more meaningfully used to assist instructors who are conducting and will conduct EMIs in universities. Furthermore, the research can render some initiatives for other higher educational institutions with respect to spreading the effects of English-Mediated Instructions on the role of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF).(Chungnam Nationa University)
