        초등영어교육과정과 연계한 유아영어교육교재의 분석과 개발방향

        강후동(Kang, Hoo Dong) 팬코리아영어교육학회(구 영남영어교육학회) 2014 영어교육연구 Vol.26 No.1

The purpose of this study is to improve the quality of preschool English education textbooks based on the elementary English curriculum. The study reviews the current issues of preschool English education and analyzes previous studies on preschool English education for the purpose of identifying the realities of preschool English textbooks as well as preschool English education in Korea. After reviewing eight preschool English textbooks, the study found many textbook series and their teacher's guidebooks do not contain detailed development criteria such as the number of vocabulary and the limit of sentence length according to different preschool pupil age categories in their developing textbooks. The study indicates many words, expressions, and dialogues included in the preschool textbooks are inappropriate for their levels. The study finally insists that preschool textbook developers should consider detailed criteria in closer connection with elementary school textbooks. Related government organizations as well as publishing companies should have the proper reviewing system for better preschool English education textbooks.

영어 능력 계발 중심의 초등영어 교사교육 모형

        김재혁 팬코리아영어교육학회(구 영남영어교육학회) 2004 영어교육연구 Vol.16 No.2

The aim of this paper is to set up a theoretical basis for and a model of elementary English teacher education focused on pre-service teachers' development of English oral skills. The argument provided throughout this paper is that we need lo teach English and English teaching related subjects in English during the English teacher training courses offered in education universities. In order to suggest a model of elementary English teacher education which exemplifies this argument, this paper has been concerned with looking at the problems our current elementary English teacher education program encounters: examining the English developmental stages as found by ESL children: considering the major types of TESOL programs offered in the major universities in the USA: and building of a model of elementary English teacher education. The suggested model advises how each of content areas (e.g.. grammar. composition, phonology. children's literature) is organized and integrated into English teaching methodology in terms of developing pre-service teachers' English language skills and teaching skills.

        임희정(Ihm Hee-Jeong) 팬코리아영어교육학회(구 영남영어교육학회) 2005 영어교육연구 Vol.17 No.3

This study aims to investigate learners’ needs to develop multimedia-assisted general English courses for colleges students. For this purpose the survey was conducted to 320 students in a college, and previous studies were reviewed to examine appropriate multimedia-assisted teaching methods. The results of the survey reveal that students, by and large, are not satisfied with the current general English courses. The results also indicate that 1) students support students’ proficiency level-based general English courses; 2) they show positive attitudes toward multimedia-assisted English course; 3) they also prefer oral language-based English courses, using authentic learning materials, and career preparation courses. On the basis of the results, the study suggests the outline of the prospective general English courses.

영어 학습부진아를 위한 문화이해중점 초등학교 방과후 영어 프로그램 효과 연구

        박선호(Park, Seon-Ho),주혜영(Joo, Hyeyoung) 팬코리아영어교육학회(구 영남영어교육학회) 2012 영어교육연구 Vol.24 No.4

This study investigates the effects of a special English program based on cultural understanding models for elementary school underachievers in English. Ten students with low grades in their English achievements were selected as subjects for the study. Two kinds of cultural understanding learning models, mainly based on Moran’s (2001) cultural experimental learning model, were used for the program. Findings revealed that the program using cultural understanding class models had positive influences on underachievers’ English ability by improving their achievement scores, vocabulary acquisition strategies, and self-directed interactions related with listening and speaking skills. The program was identified to have developed underachievers’ cultural understanding by making them increase their willingness to contact with other cultures, by allowing them to gain cultural knowledge, and by decreasing their cultural biases. In addition, the program influenced the underachievers positively in their affective domains by improving their learning interest and self-confidence. With the results from the study, some suggestions are made for the further development and the application of the program for the underachievers in English.

한국인 영어 학습자와 영어 원어민간에 확대어 사용 비교 연구

        양재원 팬코리아영어교육학회(구 영남영어교육학회) 2016 영어교육연구 Vol.28 No.2

This study compares the variation of Korean college students’ability and preference of amplifier use in a given context with those of native speakers. 86 Korean college students were divided into three groups according to their English proficiency, and 17 native speakers participated in the experiment as a comparative group. All four groups were examined for their awareness and ability of the colloquial usage of 32 frequently cited amplifiers in a given context. The results reveal that Korean English students in advanced group acquired maximize use ability in even EFL environment without special attention, while the lower two groups showed significant misusage of maximizers. On the other hand, for boosters, all three groups show significantly different used ability from that of native speakers. This study also reports that when forming collocations with amplifiers, learners in the beginning level were mostly unaware of semantic relation that took on a new dimension for them. On the other hand, learners in the intermediate group and the advanced group were able to apply lexical meaning on the collocation phrase reasonably well. These findings suggest that learners become more sensitive to the colloquial usage of amplifiers as English instructors relate specific explanation of amplifier usage to their students. Through a progressive, pedagogical effort and students' frequent exposure to amplifier collocations, learners should be able to comprehend them extensively and try to produce a variety of amplifiers adequately within authentic contexts.

        문법교육에서의 맥락의식상승의 효율성: 영화를 중심으로

        유영아(Ryu Young-A),이자원(Lee Ja-Won) 팬코리아영어교육학회(구 영남영어교육학회) 2006 영어교육연구 Vol.18 No.1

Although communicative approach was the turning point that made grammar teaching methodology practical and pedagogical in ESL/EFL classrooms, students still have trouble using grammar properly in real context. EFL students are likely to decontextualize due to focusing subconsciously and heavily on grammar itself. It is critical that students be provided with the real context in order for grammar to have functions as well as meaning and that they should be contextualized with the use of effective materials. The paper proposes a context consciousness-raising activity to resolve this controversy. This concept is concerned with how grammar interacts with meaning and context, rather than grammar being treated as an autonomous system to be mastered for its own sake. The purpose of this study was to induce the context consciousness- raising activity through the use of movies, in addition to developing the methodology which can increase the activity and participation levels of students and promote grammatical competence for practical use. The results of the data analysis from the experimental group and the control group indicated that 1) the treatment of contextualization through using movies showed far greater overall gains in learning and 2) that experiment group students held favorable attitudes toward improving their grammar skills.

한국인 EFL 학습자들의 영어 비대격 동사 습득연구

        김우영 팬코리아영어교육학회(구 영남영어교육학회) 2003 영어교육연구 Vol.15 No.3

This study examines the L2 acquisition of English unaccusative verbs by Korean EFL learners. L2 learners of English, including Korean learners of English, tend to accept the ungrammatical passive forms of happen-type unaccusative verbs, judging them to be grammatical. One hundred and five Korean college students, who were divided into three proficiency groups, took a grammaticality judgment test in which they were asked to judge whether transitive and passive sentences including unaccusative verbs were grammatically correct or not. The results showed that the English unaccusative verbs caused great learning difficulty for the learners of the beginning and the intermediate groups. The learners of the advanced group were superior to other groups in their ability to judge the grammaticality of the verbs. Among the four unaccusative verbs, the two verbs, die and happen, caused more difficulty than the other two unaccusative verbs. The difficulty L2 learners feel regarding English unaccusative verbs can be explained as an overgeneralization of the passive to unaccusative verbs because the learners falsely assume that English unaccusative verbs take passive morphology when the thematic role of theme or patient is mapped in the position of subject as the passive sentence.

영어교육 분야 연구문헌의 분류법 및 주제어 사용에 관한 연구

        김영우(Kim Youngwoo) 팬코리아영어교육학회(구 영남영어교육학회) 2007 영어교육연구 Vol.19 No.2

English language teaching (ELT) is recognized as one of a number of interdisciplinary academic fields: with linguistics, education, and literature considered as some of its sources. Thus it is natural that the question of how academic ELT books are classified be raised, but an answer has not yet been firmly established in the ELT field. This study tried to answer the question, and proved that the classification of ELT books published in Korea is not implemented. The study notes that Korean ELT books do not provide any classification information, such as Korea Decimal Classification (KDC) or Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC). This study also examines the use of keywords in ELT academic books and journal articles. As human knowledge becomes digitalized, electronic searching of information has become more common, particularly through the Internet. A crucial aspect of the search process is the use of keywords, and their role between searchers and electronically stored material. Thus, keywords will also become an important index of journal articles as government-sponsored institutions start to archive academic journals in databases. However, the result of this study shows that keywords of ELT journal articles are not applied systematically; rather individual researchers decide which keywords to use. The result is ad hoc use of keywords. Based on the results and related discussion, a conclusion and suggestions in using classification and keywords are provided.
