The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in thermal adaptive properties for the elderly haenyeos by a questionnaire and a local cold tolerance test. We carried out an one-on-one questionnaire in Jeju, Korea. A total of 112 hanyeos (68±8 yr in age) and 177 haenyeos (66±8 yr) participated in the survey. The questionnaire in the main survey consisted of 37 questions related to demographic characteristics (3 questions), diving practices and diving suits (12 questions), and behavioral temperature regulation and thermal tolerance (22 questions). As a local cold tolerance test, finger cold-induced vasodilation (CIVD) at 4℃ were measured during 4℃ cold water immersion for old haenyeo (N=3) and young female (N=12) groups. The results showed that the elderly haenyeos felt warmer in summer and colder in winter when compared to their own twenties. However, haenyeos considered themselves as the one who sweats more and being more sensitive to heat in summer compared to the similar aged of older non-women divers, whilst they perceived being less sensitive to cold than other older non-women divers. For the finger CIVD test, the eldelry haenyeo group showed higher minimum finger temperature and faster peak time which indicate greater local cold tolerance when compared to the young female group. In summary, the elderly haenyeos identified themselves to have weaker cold tolerance compared to their twenties, but greater self-identified cold tolerance than other aged nonwomen divers, and greater local cold tolerance than young females.

The Fisheries Industry of East Coast, which has the length of 212.3km and the depth of water without contiental self, is given much weight in the process of economic development with modernization of Korea Fisheries. Accordingly, we think much of the servey of actual condition of fisheries industry in this area. The thesis by utilizing analysis of the basic 12 items as a framework for consideration in the field may be summarized in conclusion as follows. 1. To emphasize the importance of ocean culture and coastal fisheries; optional exploitation and management of the fisheries resourses, artificial fishing and wood cutting, seeding cultivation, hatching, setting fish free and so forth. 2. The requirement of improvement of fishing structure from small to large in scale and conversion from catching to breeding in fishery, cultivating inland water fisheries. 3. We stress the protecting of environmental pollution in fishing grounds, modernization and readjustment of small fishery ports, making and expansion of fishery ports for exclusive use, maintain the safety of fishing vessels, and disaster prevention. 4. To point out that we must make a bid for the disign of safety production of fisheries in distant waters with enlargement of the fishing industry, substitution noopowered vessels for powered ones and old powered vessels for new ones, and reforming various fishing accessaries installed. 5. To show that government authorities must dispatch advisors to give proper guidance about fishermen's fishing, build large leader vessles for fish finding, and supplement communication equipements and fish-finders to existing vessels. 6. We must reform the structure of fishing industry, develop native sight-seeing resources and folk cooking in sea villages and improve the conditions of fishing household income no less than urban laborers. 7. It is essential that both consumers and producers(fishermen) must e protect by expanding fish market facilities, substitution with new manufacturing facilities, quality improvement, and rearrangement of marketing channel. 8. We need to raise exports by strategic fishing products export policy, and this desire to accomplish the goal applies whether products involve small scale or large scale. 9. We must develop cultivating industry by applied genetics and biology, go abroad for research study and introduction of advanced technology, and generalize the new methods through fishmen's cooperative societies. 10. Timely furnishing of oversea market imformation. 11. Developing new items of exports by innovation and quality improvement. 12. Eliminating low-income sea villages by giving priority to low-income ones over others. 13. Taking measures for disasters under fishing at sea and support of financial fund for fisheries. If we can solve the above through making proper and effective fisheries policy and continuously building up international competition power. our fisheries are supposed to export goal which was fixed at $1,050millions (270millionsM/T in quantities) in 1983, (in cluded 125,000M/T in quantities, $33millions on price in eastern coast), can be work out steadily with existing export-oriented growth policy.

For both downward and ward cement gas-liquid flow in a porous packed bed reactor the transition of gas-liquid flow pattern and liquid holdup were investigated experimentally in an air-water-Zeolite particle system. Experimental results showed that gas velocity at trickle-to-pulse flow transition boundary in the downflow system was decreased with increasing liquid velocity and that gas velocity at bubble-to-pulse flow transition boundary in the upflow system was nearly constant for lower liquid velocity, however, it was increased with increasing liquid velocity for turbulent flow region. We also found that the dynamic liquid holdup in the upflow system was higher than that in the downflow system and it was increased with increasing liquid velocity and with decreasing gas velocity. Furthermore,the dynamic liquid holdup was sensitively affected by liquid velocity at trickle flow in the downflow system while it was sensitively affected by gas velocity at bubble flow in the upflow system and at pulse flow in the downflow and upflow systems. For the porous particle system fluid velocities at gas-liquid flow transition boundaries and dynamic liquid holdup had nearly same that for the nonporous particle(glass bead) system.
