볏짚으로부터 분리한 Bacillus sp. K-1과 그 변이주 KM-21과 KM-83이 생산하는 biopolymer들의 물성학적 성질을 비교 조사하였다. 은도에 따른 biopolymer의 겉보기 점도는 온도가 높아짐에 따라 감소하였으며, $20^{\circ}C$일 때에 비해 $80^{\circ}C$일 때 KM-21 균주가 생산하는 biopolymer는 1.7배, K-1균주의 biopolymer는 2.7배, KM-83 균주의 biopolymer는 1.9배 정도로 낮은 점성을 보였다. Biopolymer 용액의 점성은 농도가 증가함에 따라 크게 증가하여 6%의 농도에서 가장 높게 나타났으며, 2%, 4%, 6% 모두 pseudoplastic특성을 나타내어 농도에 대한 의존성이 매우 높았다. 6%의 농도일 때 2%의 농도와 비교해서 전단 속도가 $93\;sec^{-1}$ 일 때 KM-21은 26배, K-1은 56배, KM-83은 28배로 모균주의 biopolymer인 K-1이 가장 높은 점성을 보었다. pH에 따른 점도 변화는 pH7.0에서 최고를 보였으며, 알칼리성 조건일 때에 비해 산성조건에서 상대적으로 낮은 값의 점성을 보였다. Cacao bean 으로부터 분리된 polyphenol 성분의 화학구조분석과 ACE 저해효과

Seven kinds of polyphenol compounds having ACE activities were isoated and purified by Sephadex LH-20, MCI-gel CHP-20, μ-Bondapak C_(18) and Fuji-gel ODS G₃ sucessively from cacao bean(Ghana). The chemical structures of each compound were determined and identified using analyzers such as ¹H-NMR, ^(13)C-NMR, IR, MS, polarimeter and Elemental Analysis. Inhibition effects of isolated polyphenols on angiotensin converting enzyme (concerned with hypertension) were also observed. The results obtained were as follows,; The compounds isolated and identified were confirmed and determined as compound 1 [(+)-catechin], compound 2 [(-)-epicatechin], compound 3 [procyanidin B-1 : (-)-epicatechin-(4β→8)-(+)catechin], compound 4 [procyanidin B-2 : (-)-epicatechin-(4β→8)-(-)-epicatechin], compound 5 [procyanidin B-7 : (-)-epicatechin-(4β→6)-(+)-catechin], campound 6 (procyanidin B-2,3,3`-O-digallate), compound 7 [cinnamtannin A-2 : (-)-epicatechin-(4β→8)-(-)-epicatechin-(4β→8)-(-)-epicatechin-(4β→8)-(-)-epicatechin]. In the inhibition effect on ACE, procyanidin B-2,3,3`-O-digallate (compound 6) showed a higher value of 94.6% for ACE in 100μM than other compounds such as (+)-catechin (compound 1), (-)-epicatechin (compound 2), procyanidin B-1 (compound 3), procyanidin B-2 (compound 4), procyanidin B-7 (compound 5) and cinnamtannin A-2 (compound 7) showing 67.9%, 61.9%, 88.6%, 82.5%, 72.2% and 82.3% for ACE, respectively. Inhibition of 4β→8 in coupling bond on the ACE enzyme was more effective than that of 4β→6. Procyanidin containing gallate inhibited more effectively than those containing not any. It was also observed that a lot of hydroxy group in the compounds increased the inhibitory effect.

The effect of alcohol extract of Ginseng orally administered on the changes of the body weight of rats was investigated. The body weight of rats during feeding with 0.1% Ginseng extract added in the diet was measured for 2 months and compared with that of normal rats. The result obtained in the experiment indicated that the change of body weight of rats (140∼170g) was not affected by Ginseng.

This study was aimed to investigate the effects of Ginseng ethanol extract on Diabetes induced by alloxan in comparison with that of insulin. The blood sugar, blood urea nitrogen, glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase and cholesterol were measured by spectrophotometry. The results were obtained as follows. 1. Ethanol extract of Ginseng increased the blood sugar level in normal rats. 2. Ethanol extract of Ginseng restrained the increase of blood sugar in diabetes induced by alloxan. 3. Ethanol extract of Ginseng acted to oppose a rapid decrease of blood sugar by insulin. 4. Blood urea nitrogen, glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase and cholesterol level in blood were not affected by Ginseng.
