Purpose: We present a new simple technique to remove subconjunctival cyst under the slit lamp microscope. Case summary: A cotton swab was used to verify whether or not the cyst was freely movable under the conjunctiva. After topical anesthesia, we incised the conjunctiva near the cyst using a 30-gauge needle and extracted the cyst through the wound using forceps under the slit lamp microscope. Four cases of subconjunctival cyst were successfully removed with our new technique. During the average five month (2-10 month) follow-up period, there was no recurrence or procedure- related complications. Conclusions: Some subconjunctival cysts such as an epithelial inclusion cyst which is freely movable without attachment to surrounding tissues can be easily removed with a 30-gauge needle and forceps under the slit lamp microscope. This could be considered as the primary procedure instead of simple aspiration. J Korean Ophthalmol Soc 2011;52(12):1531-1536
레이저 직접묘화법에 의한 AlN 기판상의 전도성 패턴 제작에 관한 연구

One of perspective direction of microfabrication is direct laser writing technology that allows to create metal, semiconductive and dielectric micropatterns on substrate surface. In this work, a two step method, the combination of seed forming process, in which metallic Al seed was selectively generated on AlN ceramic substrate by direct writing technique using a pulsed Nd : YAG laser and subsequent electroless Ni plating on the activated Al seed, was presented. The effects of laser parameters such as pulse energy, scanning speed and pulse frequency on shape of Alseed and conductor line after electroless Ni plating were investigated. The nature of the laser activated surface is analyzed from XPS data. The line width of this metallic Al and Ni is analyzed using SEM. As a results, Al seed line with 24㎛ width and 100㎛ isolated line space is obtained. Finally, laser direct writing can be applied in the field between thin and thick film technique in electronic industry.

Objective : Cystoscopy has been included as diagnostic procedure for pretreatment evaluation of cervical cancer by FIGO. However, its invasiveness brings up a question regarding the necessity of inclusion in staging work up of cervical cancer. We performed this study to evaluate the clinical implication of cystoscopy in cervical cancer staging. Methods : 128 patients with invasive cervical cancer patients who were histologically diagnosed from Jan 1995 to Dec 1999 were retrospectively reviewed. Physical examination, computed tomography (CT), cystoscopy were performed in all patients. The distribution of FIGO stage was Ib 48.4%, II 35.2%, III 8.6%, and IV 7.8%. Bladder invasion was evaluated in CT and histopathologic examination was performed on cystoscopy when invasion was suspected. McNemar test was used to compare the finding in CT and cystoscopy for matched patients. P-value of 0.05 was regarded as statistically significant. Results : Among seven patients whose bladder was suspected to be invaded by cervical cancer in CT scan, three patients had actual bladder invasion confirmed by cystoscopy (positive predictive rate = 42.9%). CT was statistically comparable to cystoscopy (P = 0.375, McNemar test; contingency coefficient = 0.481). Conclusion : Cystoscopy, which is an invasive procedure, may not be necessary and might be substituted by CT scan for pretreatment evaluation in some subset of cervical cancer patients.
