Sacroiliitis is a prototyical feature of the seronegative spondyloarthropathies. It has been reported rarely in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. We report a case of bilateral sacroiliitis in a 26 year-old female who presented 5 out of 11 ARA criteria for systemic lupus erythematosus. She complained of right low back pain since 1 week after delivery. Plain roentgenogram, computed tomogram and magnetic resonance imaging revealed no evidence of subluxation or pyogenic infection that may be possibly related to delivery, but bilateral sacroiliitis especially more severe in the right side that showed concordantly increased uptake on bone scan. Also she had neither HLA DR-3 nor B-27 antigens and had no other clinical findings of limitation of motion of spine and chest expansion, which suggest that there is a less likelihood of coexistent ankylosing spondylitis. In this case, we suggested that sacroiliitis may be a infrequent manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus.

Transparent ceramics are widely considered in military applications such as transparent armor, electrooptical window and domes, and high power solid-state laser hosting components. Advanced fabrication technologies of polycrystalline ceramics have enabled us to make transparent ceramics with outstanding thermal, mechanical and optical properties which were not possible before. The existing properties of the ceramics, however, need to be improved for the applications of future military systems. Here, we reviewed the studies on the characteristics and the fabrication methods of these transparent ceramics.

N/A DNA-Polymerase and HBeAg appear to be indicaters of relative infectivity of HBsAg-positive serum. The acute disease in the HBeAg-positive patients with acute hepatitis differed significantly from that of HBeAg-negative (HBsAg-positivie) patients. However it did not correlate with the type or severity of liver disease after HBV infection, since HBeAg was present in both chronic benign and chronic active hepatitis B infections. Presence of HBeAg was associated with increase in DNA polymerase activity and in number of circulating Dane particles in previous reports, but it does not correlate with DNA polymerase activity, Dane particles in our studies. To evaluate the activity of HBV DNA in various liver disease, we studed it in 20 patients with CAH, HCC, and 10 patients, who is carrier state with HBeAg, without HBeAg, AVH and CPH respectively. The mean value of HBV DNA polymerase activity is 4092.60+5429.36 cpm in HBe-positive heathy carriers, 203.80+52.80 cpm in HBe-negative healthy carriers, 386.30+471.58 cpm in CPH, 742.05+942. 77 cprn in VAH, 211.95+110.27 cpm in HCC, and 413.50+77.60 cpm in AVH. These results suggest that onging hepatitis B viral replication is more active in HBeAg positive healthy carriers than in carriers without HBeAg, a finding that may help explain the high prevalence of individuals. Thus, DNA polymerase appears to identify the period of peak hepatitis B virus replication, the result of antiviral agents therapy, and test will be useful in evaluating the safety and efficacy of future hepatitis B virus infection.
Zoogloea ramigera 115와 Zoogloea ramigera l15SLR의 중금속 흡착능 비교

Capsular polymer인 zooglan을 생산하는 Z. ramigera 115와 수용성 slime polymer 생산 변이주인 Z. ramigera l15SLR의 중금속 제거능을 비교하였다. 중금속 5종($Cd^{2+}$, $Co^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$, $Ni^{2+}$, $Fe^{2+}$)의 최저 생장저해농도는 두 균주 모두 유사하였다. $Cd^{2+}$을 첨가하지 않은 경우에 비해 $Cd^{2+}$ 500ppm을 첨가한 액체 배지에서의 생체량은 Z. ramigera 115는 24%, Z. ramigera l15SLR은 50%로 감소하였고 동일한 생체량에 대하여 Z. ramigera 115SLR이 Z. ramtgera 115보다 $Cd^{2+}$을 1.5배 더 제거하였다. 세포와 polymer를 분리하여 중금속 흡착능을 비교한 결과 polymer가 세포보다 높은 흡착량을 나타냈으며 최적 중금속 흡착 pH는 7.5였다. Langmuir 흡착등온선과 Freundlich 흡착등온선을 분석한 결과 $Cd^{2+}$에 대하여 Z. ramigera l15SLR polymer는 Z. ramigera 115 및 이온 교환 수지보다 높은 최대흡착량과 흡착안정성을 보여서 홉착제로서 유용할 것으로 판단된다. Heavy metal removal by Z. ramigera 115 and soluble slime polymer producing mutant Z. ramigera 115SLR was investigated. Both strains showed similar tolerance against $Cd^{2+}$, $Co^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$, $Ni^{2+}$ and $Fe^{2+}$. When cells were cultivated in the presence of 500 ppm $Cd^{2+}$, the mutant strain removed 1.5 fold more metal than the wild type did at same biomass. Metal adsorption capacities were in the order of Z. ramigera l15SLR polymer > Z. ramigera 115 polymer > Z. ramigera 115 cell >Z. ramigera l15SLR cell. The optimum pH for metal adsorption was 7.5. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms indicated that Qmax and 1/n of Z. ramigera l15SLR polymer were 164.2 mg $Cd^{2+}$/g dw and 0.496, respectively. These results showed that the polymer of Z. ramigera l15SLR could be used as an effective metal adsorbate.

Swallowing syncope is a rare syndrome of a sudden and temporary loss of consciousness on swallowing. 66- year-old man was admitted due to dysphagia and syncope. He had no history of cardiac or gastrointestinal problem. In manometry, there was increased pressure of lower esophageal sphincter consistent to secondary achalasia and 24-hour Holter monitoring showed sinus arrest and atrioventricular block while swallowing. Head-up tilt test and provocation test with ballooning tube were shown mixed pattern of cardioinhibitory and vasodepressor response. Propranolol was given but not effective. Permanent pacemaker was implanted and there was no more syncopal episode. For evaluation of dysphagia symptom gastrofiberscopy was done and we found stomach carcinoma at the gastric cardia portion that infiltrated to the lower end of esophagus. Partial esophagogastrectomy with anastomosis was done and then the cardiac arrhythmias were disappeared. In the microscopic finding of gastroesophageal portion, it revealed tumor cells infiltrated to vagus nerve located in esophageal submucosa. We propose that swallowing syncope is induced mainly by esophageal abnormality with or without cardiac abnormality and stomach carcinoma metastasized to esophagus is an etiology of swallowing syncope. We report a case of swallowing syncope due to metastatic esophageal carcinoma involving vagal nerve.
