석탄가스화 복합발전 시스템의 주요 단위 공정인 고온건식 탈황공정에 사용되는 탈황제의 개발을 위한 연구의 일환으로 국내산 철광석과 호주산 철광석에 대해 환원, 황화 및 재생 반응을 수행하였다. 실험 장치로는 TGA와 시료 제조용 고정층 반응기를 이용하였고, BET 표면적, SEM, 탈황/재생 cycle 실험, 반응 온도 변화 및 탈황제의 질량변화곡선 등을 이용하여 세가지 철계 탈황제에 대한 기초반응 특성을 규명하였다. 500-$700^{\circ}C$ 구간에서 반응온도 증가에 따라 탈황반응의 H$_2$S 제거율과 재생반응의 재생율이 증가하였다. Reduction, sulfidation, and regeneration reactions were performed using domestic and Australian iron ore in order to develop a desulfurizing sorbent for the high temperature desulfurization process that is one of major processes in the integrated coal gasification combined cycle (IGCC) system. A TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis) reactor and a fixed-bed reactor were used. Some basic kinetic information was obtained from BET surface area measurements, SEM photos, cyclic reactions, reaction temperature changes and TGA curves of the sorbents. The rates of both desulfurization and regeneration increased with increasing reaction temperature in the range of 500-700$^{\circ}C$.

Hwangryunhaedok-tang (HT) is prescribed in oriental medicine to treat inflammation-related diseases. This study examined the anti-bacterial effect to select the index components of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) HT. The disc diffusion method and minimum inhibition concentrations (MIC) tests were conducted to measure the antibacterial activity of HT. The strains were Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Escherichia coli 23724. Berberine and geniposide were selected as the index components of HT and were analyzed quantitatively by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). As a result, the inhibition ring was formed at $11.7{\pm}1.3mm$ and $8.7{\pm}0.7mm$ at HT 20 mg and 10 mg on S.aureus ATCC 25923, respectively; and $8.0{\pm}0.0mm$ at HT 20 mg on E.coli ATCC 23724. The MIC were 31.25 mg/mL in S.aureus ATCC 25923 and 125.0 mg/mL in E.coli ATCC 23724. In quantitative analysis for standardization, HT contained 16.55 mg/g of berberine and 81.85 mg/g of geniposide. Overall, when antibiotics are developed using natural products, they may reduce the side effects and inhibit resistant bacteria. If research on HT continuously proceeds, positive developments are expected to be made in oriental medicine as well as in various other industries. 황련해독탕은 한방산업에서 염증관련 질환에 다빈도로 사용되는 처방이다. 본 연구의 목적은 전통적 한약인 황련해독탕의 항균활성을 확인하고 지표성분을 선정하는 것이다. 황련해독탕의 항균활성을 측정하기 위하여 디스크 확산법과 최소억제농도법을 사용하였다. 사용균주는 Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Escherichia coli ATCC 23724였으며 대조군으로 oxacillin과 ciprofloxacin을 이용하여 황련해독탕의 항균활성을 확인하였다. 결과적으로 디스크 확산법에서는 S.aureus ATCC 25923에서 황련해독탕 20 mg과 10 mg은 $11.7{\pm}1.3mm$, $8.7{\pm}0.7mm$의 억제환을 형성하였으며 E.coli ATCC 23724에서는 황련해독탕 20 mg이 $8.0{\pm}0.0mm$의 억제환을 형성하였다. 최소억제농도는 S.aureus ATCC 25923가 31.25 mg/mL, E.coli ATCC 23724 에서는 125.0 mg/mL였다. 표준화를 위한 HPLC 정량분석 결과, 황련해독탕은 berberine을 16.55 mg/g 함유하고 있었으며 geniposide를 81.85 mg/g 함유하고 있었다. 천연물을 이용하여 항생제를 개발할 경우에는 내성세균을 억제하고 부작용을 줄일 수 있다는 장점이 있다. 이러한 점을 착안하여 지속적으로 연구를 진행한다면 한방산업과 더불어 여러 산업에서의 발전을 기대할 수 있을 것이다.

In this study, we investigated carbonation-regeneration and agglomeration characteristics of dry sorbents. Experiment has been proceeded in the batch-type reactor, which is made of quartz: 0.05 m of I.D and 0.8 m in height. The sorbents that is collected at the cyclone of the carbonation reactor of continuous process were used in this study. The reactivity was studied at the various concentrations of water vapor, N2 and CO2 in the fluidizing gas at regeneration reaction. As a result, the reactivity increased as the regeneration temperature increased, the reactivity decreased as the concentration of water vapor increased. The absorption capacity showed the highest value in case of using N2 100% as regeneration gas. And decreased in order of H2O+N2, CO2 100% and H2O+CO2. The agglomeration characteristics were investigated according to the particle sizes and concentrations of water vapor at carbonation reaction. As a result, the particle with smaller size and higher concentration of water vapor showed the higher agglomeration characteristic.

The sorbents containing CuO as an active material were prepared and their effectiveness in desulfurization was investigated at low temperatures(350-550℃). MoO₃and MnO₂were chosen as additives and SiO₂was chosen as support material. In the low temperature regeneration reaction, sulfate was formed, which could not be decomposed until regeneration temperature reached 650℃. Sulfidation reaction rate decreased as calcination temperature increased. Promoting effect of MoO₃was not observbed throughout the sulfidation/regeneration reaction. When SiO₂content was below 25% of sorbents composition, sulfur loading of above 10% could be obtained. Mass transfer inhibition by sulfiding gas was observed for the sorbents containing no SiO₂.

Specific surface area has been obtained by using air adsorption method which is simpler than other conventional method. Physical constants are obtained from standard materials having known specific surface area, and specific surface areas of unknown samples are calculated by using the physical constants. It has been observed that the larger surface area difference between standard and unknown samples resulted in the lower measurement accuracy. Since the measurement accuracy decreased linearly with the specific surface area difference between unknown and standard samples, a correction curve could be obtained. Reliability of specific surface area investigated in this study strongly depended on the physical constants. If the surface structure of unknown material is different from that of standard material, new physical constant should be recalculated. The air adsorption method was, however, effective for the material that has same or similar surface structure as that of standard material.

A prototype electrodeless sulfur lamp was developed and investigated the spectroscopic characteristics. The emission spectra of $S_2$ in the microwave-discharged eletrodeless sulfur lamp (ESL) were studied at various input power. The emission spectra of the ESL shift to longer wavelength with increasing of the input power. We have shown that this is due to the self reversal effect in the high pressure gas discharge. We also show that the self reversal effect increases as the rotation of the discharged bulb. The spectral distribution of the ESL shifts about 45 nm toward visible region from UV region due to the rotation of the lamp bulb.
