Eosinophilic Polypoid Cystitis in a Cocker Spaniel Dog
윤원경,현창백 한국임상수의학회 2012 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.29 No.3
An 8-year-old castrated male Cocker Spaniel (weighing 12.0 kg) was referred to the Kangwon National University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, with primary complaints of persistent hematuria. Diagnostic studies revealed neutrophilia, hematuria, proteinuria, abnormal irregular shaped hyperechoic lesion in urinary bladder. The lesion was demarcated from the intact region of bladder and consisted of eosinophils, macrophages, lymphocyte and fibrocytes. Based on the histopathological exam, the case was diagnosed as eosinophilic polypoid cystitis and treated by surgical removal and short-term medical therapy (meloxicam and amitriptyline). The therapy was successful and recurrence has not been occurred.
Tracheal Hypoplasia in 6 English Bulldogs
윤원경,안효진,안운찬,현창백 한국임상수의학회 2013 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.30 No.1
Six English Bull dogs from the same dog training camp were referred with main complaints of stridor, gagging and coughing. Diagnostic imaging studies on these dogs revealed hypoplastic trachea with/without bronchopneumonia. The mean age of affected dogs was 4.83 ± 2.63 months, while the mean body weight was 9.03 ± 5.30 kg. The mean ratio of the tracheal diameter to the thoracic inlet distance (TD/TI) was 0.085 ± 0.022 (normally 0.16 or greater), whereas the mean ratio tracheal diameter to the width of the third rib (TD/W3R) was 1.36 ± 0.36 (normally 2 or greater). All dogs had marked inspiratory dyspnea with variable degree of coughing. Of 6 dogs, 4 dogs had either bronchitis or bronchopneumonia. Treatment with antibiotics and bronchodilators made improvement on clinical signs on these dogs. Although some dogs still had mild inspiratory dyspnea (especially after exercise or excitement), most dogs live normally.
Gestational Diabetes in a Yorkshire Terrier Dog
윤원경,서상일,현창백 한국임상수의학회 2015 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.32 No.2
A 3 year-old pregnant female Yorkshire terrier dog was presented with major complaints of polyuria and polydipsia. Laboratory tests found persistent hyperglycemia and glucosuria. Abdominal ultrasound study found 2 dead fetuses. Ovarian hysterectomy was performed to remove the dead fetuses. After ovarian hysterectomy, the level of blood glucose was returned to normal range. In addition, the clinical signs and urine glucose were all disappeared. Based on findings on laboratory tests and follow-up study, the case was diagnosed as gestational diabetes mellitus. To our best knowledge, this is the first case report describing a gestational diabetes mellitus of dog in Korea.

Background/Aims: Healthcare-associated pneumonia (HCAP) occurs outside hospitals, but its characteristics are similar to those of hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP). We evaluated the clinical and microbial characteristics of HCAP in Korea. Methods: Of 130 subjects with suspected pneumonia, 49 were classified as HCAP and 81 as HAP. We retrospectively examined the clinical presentations, outcomes, pathogens, and drug resistance rates of Pseudomonas aeruginosae in both groups. Results: The clinical presentations, including the symptoms and laboratory findings, at the time of hospitalization were comparable in both groups. The hospital mortalities of HCAP (28.6%) and HAP (34.6%) did not differ significantly; the length of the hospital stay was similar for all of the survivors (14 vs. 17 days, respectively). Of the identified pathogens, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus was significantly less common in HCAP than in HAP (two vs. 18 cases, respectively, p<0.01), whereas Klebsiella pneumoniae was more common in HCAP (five vs. zero cases, respectively, p<0.01). The frequency of other Gram-negative rods was similar in both groups. The rate of resistance to antibiotics in P. aeruginosae in both groups was substantial, with the highest resistant rate to ciprofloxacin (50% and 61.5% in HCAP and HAP, respectively). Conclusions: Although the clinical features and outcomes of HCAP were comparable to those of HAP in the study population, the frequency of methicillin-resistant S. aureus was significantly lower in HCAP compared to HAP.
