Objectives The purpose of the study is to evaluate the safety of the Allium Fistulosum extract in children and its effectiveness in height growth. Methods This study is randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. The participants are children between the 3rd and 25th percentiles in height, and between the ages of 5 and 12 years. They are randomly assigned to treatment group or control group. The treatment group will take 5 g (1 g as Allium Fistulosum extract) for 24 weeks, 1 time a day. The control group will take the 5 g (0 g as Allium Fistulosum extract) of placebo for 24 weeks, 1 time a day. The primary outcome is change in height, and the secondary outcomes are growth rate, height standard deviations, Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), Insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3), IGF1-1/IGFBP-3 ratio, growth hormone, bone age, osteocalcin, and Z-score for growth. Results This protocol has been approved by the institutional review board (IRB) of Daejeon Korean Medicine Hospital of Daejeon University (IRB No. DJDSKH-20-BM-15), and registered in the Clinical Research Information Service (CRIS) (Registry No. KCT0005981). Conclusions This study will provide clinical information about the effectiveness and safety of Allium Fistulosum extract in children for their growth.
Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA 분석을 이용한 한속단과 천속단의 감별

As a result to amplifying 12 samples of "Sok-dan" through an random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) method using eighteen UBC and URP primers, distinct band forms enabling discrimination of Phlomus umbrosa and Dipsacus asperoides were observable in the UBC 320 primer, UBC 367 primer, UBC 385 primer, UBC 414 primer, UBC 423 primer, URP 3 primer, URP 5 primer and URP 9 primer. The polymorph result amplified with a random primer was evaluated through Gelcompar Ⅱ, showing a result dividable into two groups. The divided groups were the dried sample group of Dipsacus asperoides and the group of Phlomis umbrosa. In order to recognize the distinction between Dipsaci Radix types, the genetic variation of "Sok-dan" produced domestically and imported was evaluated through RAPD, and the potential to distinguish these in forms of dried medicine was identified, presenting a method to authentification of Phlomis umbrosa and Dispacus asperoides.

Objective: This study was to compare antioxidant activity and HPLC pattern analysis from 4 species of changpo(changpu). Methods: To compare the antioxidant activity and HPLC pattern analysis from the 4 species of changpo, we performed the in vitro anti-oxidative activity assays and HPLC analysis from 70% ethanol extracts of Acorus gramineus Sol. (=AG), A. tatarinowii Schott (=AT), A. calamus L. (=AC) and Anemone altaica Fisch. ex C.A.Mey (=AA) taken in the herbal medicine market of Korea. Results: AG has the most effective anti-oxidative activity among 4 species of changpo. As the HPLC pattern analysis, AT was detected the unknown peak at retention time 14.9 min whereas AG was not showed any peak at the same retention time. These results suggest that AG could be used rather than AT when it need to be prescribed as anti-oxidative medicine. Conclusions: This result can be used as the basic data contributing to the stability of AG according to an appropriate clinical application.
