The foremost goal of these thesis is to take a close look at the status quo of the progress of general education, cyber education and information in Africa-focusing on Zimbabwe. Furthermore a seek of possible role for Korea in this procedure of educational development, especially in information process will be attempted. In Chapter 1, a close look at the status quo of Africa is taken. Africa is a large continent where diverse language, cultures, ethic groups and religions are intermingled, but which are bonded together with one community conscience. Africa is no longer a mere underdeveloped continent but it is rather a lively world where primitive cultures and leading edge technologies coexist. In Chapter 2, the history, culture, economy and geographical characteristic of Zimbabwe are looked upon. Especially the arduous effort by Zimbabwe toward the education is scrutinized through the prism of its modern history. Through the history of Zimbabwe, a grief mentioning of why African continent fell behind in keeping up with the other continents in terms of civilization is made. In Chapter 3, a comparison of the educational system and the status quo of cyber education of Zimbabwe with those of other Africa countries is made. visits of college home pages of African countries are made with occasional analysis. In Chapter 4, a comparison of the cyber education in Africa with that of other continents such as North America, Asia and Europe is made. Recently African countries-especially Zimbabwe-are trying arduous effort to improve the quality of their lives with the help of education. Western developed countries have been offering humongous amount of financial aid for the construction of that effort already started to come to fruition gradually, it is mentioned in this chapter. In Chapter 5, prospect of information of Africa together with its righteous orientation is suggested. Further, through taking a glimpse of an example in which an American college provided an Africa college with support, the desirable role of developed countries in furtherance of educational development, especially in cyber educational development is sought. In concluding thesis, a possible role of Korea in This cooperational trend is suggested. 본 연구의 목적은 짐바브웨를 중심으로 아프리카 교육의 현황과 전망을 살펴보고 아프리카인들에 대한 올바른 인식을 가지며 그들에게 우리가 어떻게 접근하고 도울 수 있는지를 살펴보고자 한다. 특히 아프리카 정보화 교육의 현황과 전망을 통하여 우리나라가 그들에게 도울 길이 무엇이며 우리가 또한 그들로부터 배울 것은 무엇인지를 고찰해보고자 한다.

This study was performed to investigate the antithrombotic activity and protective effect of hexane fraction of Kamihyulbuchukeotang (KHCTH) on brain injury by KCN and MCA occlusion a prescription of HCT added with Lumbricus and Notoginseng Radix. Experiemental parameters are brain ischemia by MCA occlusion assay, KCN-induced brain injury, pulmonary thrombosis and platelet aggregation assay. The results were summarized as follows; 1. KHCTH extracts significantly inhibited the duration of KCN-induced coma (67%) and mortality (80%). 2. KHCTH extracts significantly suppressed brain ischemic area and edema following MCA occlusion and protected neuron cells as compared with control data. 3. KHCTH extracts inhibited pulmonary thrombosis induced by collagen and epinephrine. 4. KHCTH extracts inhibited platelet aggregation induced by collagen, ADP as agonist up to 76.9% and 32.3% respectivey at 1 mg/ml more effective than water extract of KHCT These data suggested that KHCTH could be applied as the protector of brain ischemia and injury and antithrombotic agent.
요소분해효소 기반 식물추출액을 이용한 광산폐기물 내 중금속 오염 저감

Acid mine drainage occurrence is a serious environmental problem by mining industry, it usually contains high levels of metal ions, such as iron, copper, zinc, aluminum, and manganese, as well as metalloids of which arsenic is generally of the greatest concern. An indigenous plant extract was used to produce calcium carbonate from Canavalia ensiformis as effective biomaterial, and its ability to form the calcium carbonate under stable conditions was compared to that of purified urease. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy were employed to elucidate the mechanism of calcium carbonate formation from the crude plant extracts. The results revealed that urease in the plant extracts catalyzed the hydrolysis of urea in liquid state cultures and decreased heavy metal amounts in the contaminated soil. The heavy metal amounts were decreased in the leachate from the treated mine soil; 31.7% of As, 65.8% of Mn, 50.6% of Zn, 51.6% of Pb, 45.1% of Cr, and 49.7% of Cu, respectively. The procedure described herein is a simple and beneficial method of calcium carbonate biomineralization without cultivation of microorganisms or further purification of crude extracts. This study suggests that crude plant extracts of Canavalia ensiformis have the potential to be used in place of purified forms of the enzyme during remediation of heavy metal contaminated soil.

Background : Although percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) is effective on the treatment of chronic venous stenosis during hemodialysis, its effect on poor maturation of native arteriovenous fistula (AVF) before cannulation is not well known. We evaluated the effect of PTA on the treatment of poor maturation of native AVF before cannulation in hemodialysis patients. Methods : Venography was performed in 17 patients with poor maturation of native AVF before cannulation. If the stenosis was a 70% or greater decrease in lumen diameter, PTA was performed. Results : The incidence of diabetes mellitus was 70.6% (n=12). Of those patients studied, total occlusion was observed in 3 cases, discrete stenosis in 12 cases, no stenosis with multiple accessory veins in 2 cases. Of the 15 patients with stenosis or total occlusion, 9 had such lesions in the proximal vein and 4 at the AV anastomosis and 2 in the artery. Of thirteen of 15 patients with these lesions who underwent PTA, 12 patients initially had successful dilatation and the follow up patency rate at 6.0±5.8 months was 61.5%. Two of the patients with restenosis underwent re-PTA with successful dilatation. Conclusion : PTA seems to be effective on the treatment of poor maturation of native AVF before cannulation.(Korean J Med 59:40-46, 2000)

Monoclonal antibody (OC 125) has been developed by hybridization of spleen cell from mice immunized with an epithelial cell line OVCA 433. CA 125 is the antigenic determinant recognized by this monoclonal antibody. CA 125 is considered as a clinically useful tumor marker for monitoring patients with epithelial ovarian cancer. But the specificity of CA 125 is low due to its elevation in other malignancy and benign disease including liver cirrhosis, pelvic inflammatory disease and tubeculous peritonitis. We report a case of tuberculous peritonitis in a 62-year-old woman. Her serum CA 125 level was raised and fell in response to antituberculous therapy.
