The purpose of this study is to analyze the function of the hand and its movement of productive signs in the Korean Sign Language Corpus by describing the different image-producing techniques (Koenig et al. 2008). We describe the productive signs which are glossed after their handshape and reveal the meaning they express. For this reason we have downloaded eleven files of signed data (135 minutes) from the Integrative System for Korean Sign Language Resources and analyzed all productive signs and their image-producing techniques. As a result, we found 611 tokens of productive signs, distinguished by 12 handshapes which made use of the substitutive technique, manipulative technique, sketching technique and measuring technique. Of these productive signs there are two handshapes (flathand1) and (Q-handshape2) which make use of all four image-producing techniques. Besides, we found out that the substitutive technique is used by all twelve handshapes of the productive signs. As an example we have looked deeper into the productive signs which are articulated by the unmarked flathand and the meaning they carry. Our findings show that the image-producing techniques will help sign language learners to understand how signers visually synchronize the underlying image of a sign with the signs they use. This will help sign language learners to understand the phonological, morphological and syntactical features of sign language.

Recent attention has been drawn to materials that undergo reversible expansion and contraction in response to external stimuli, leading to morphological changes. These materials hold potential applications in various fields including soft robotics, sensors, and artificial muscles. In this study, a novel material capable of responding to high temperatures for protection or encapsulation is proposed. To achieve this, liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) with nematic-isotropic transition properties and polyimide (PI) with high mechanical strength and thermal stability were utilized. To utilize a solution process, a dope solution was synthesized and introduced i nto micro-printing techniques to d evelop a t wo-dimensional p attern o f LCE/PI b ilayer s tructures with sub-millimeter widths. The honeycomb-patterned LCE/PI bilayer mesh combined the mechanical strength of PI with the high-temperature contraction behavior of LCE, and selective printing of LCE facilitated deformation in desired directions at high temperatures. Consequently, the functionality of selectively and reversibly encapsulating specific high-temperature materials was achieved. This study suggests potential applications in various actuator fields where functionalities can be implemented across different temperature rang es w ithout t he n eed f or e lectrical energy input, c onting ent upon m olecular c hang es i n LCE.
