The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of different saddle heights on lower-limb joint angle and muscle activity. Six elite cyclists(age: 32.2±5.2 years, height: 171.0±3.5 cm, weight: 79.7±5.6 kg, cycle career: 13±6.2 years) participated in three min. submaximal(90 rpm) pedaling tests with the same load and cadence based on saddle heights where subject`s saddle height was determined by his knee flexion angle when the pedal crank was at the 6 o`clock position. Joint angles(hip, knee, ankle joints) and the activity of lower limb muscles(biceps femoris(BF), vastus lateralis(VL), tibialis anterior(TA) and gastrocnemius medial(GM)) were compared by measuring 3D motion and electromyography(EMG) data. Results showed that there were significant differences in minimum hip & knee joint angle and range of motion of hip and knee joint between saddle heights. Onset timing and integrated EMG of only BF among 4 muscles were significantly different between saddle heights. Especially there was a negative relationship between minimum hip joint angle and onset timing of BF in most subject, which means that onset timing of BF became fast as the degree of bending of the hip joint became larger by saddle height. Optimal pedaling will be possible through increased amount of muscle activation due to the appropriate burst onset timing by proper pedaling posture with adjusted saddle height.

Products can be previewed to the customers with 2D still images through the web site. Even a 2D still image can show many detailed factors, it has limit in describing real 3D product. Thus providing 3D CAD model through web site will be very effective in delivering product information to the customers. This study suggests a methodology to process web-based 3D product simulation. First 3D CAD model was constructed and converted to VRML. And then to maximize reality, data of texture and material information were mapped on the surfaces of 3D product. Every commercial product has its own functions and we applied those functions which are expressed as event to the converted 3D model. Finally 3D CAD model was published to web by HTML and JAVA. Examples are given and discussed to validate the proposed methodology.

Liability for the manufacture or supply of defective products can arise in two principle ways, in tort and in contract. English law has long regarded shipbuilding contract as agreement for the sale and purchase of goods. The consequence of which is that unless the Buyer and Builder agree otherwise, terms will automatically be implied into the contract between them as to the quality and performance of the completed vessel. The same principle applies to sub-contracts allied to the shipbuilding contract. On the other hand, one case decisions established that “.... a contract to build a ship, though a contract of sale of goods, has also some characteristics of a building contract”, Recently the liability of a manufacturer in tort for physical damage i.e. personal injury and damage to property other than alleged to be defective is now well settled in most countries. Accordingly the Builder may face third party claims in tort more regularly than they have in the past, if the statutory implied terms have not been expressly excluded in contract. In such circumstances, it is necessary for the Builder to be prepared with counter measures to secure the stability of the vessel from its design development, building process, delivery and operation etc. The purpose of this paper is, from the case of “MSC Carla", to review product liability, jurisdiction and the initial date of extinctive prescription, then to suggest counter measures to the Builder.

There is a growing need for technologies to address the health, isolation, and safety concerns of elderly people, which have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Virtual reality technology is gaining attention to address these issues, as it allows people to interact with others remotely and experience an external environment. Virtual reality can be experienced with head-mounted displays (HMDs). However, virtual reality technology is rarely used for elderly people due to the usability, weight, and cyber-sickness of HMDs. This study examined immersion, cyber-sickness, and lightweight technology of HMDs and identified issues that require improvements to allow implementation of HMDs in the silver healthcare field. These findings provide a basis for future research to improve the usability of virtual reality devices for elderly people.
