Natural convection within a wedge-shaped enclosure has been studied numerically by finite difference method. Radial surfaces of the wedge are isothermally hot and cold while circumferential surfaces are insulated. Results show isotherms, streamlines and velocity profiles as well as Nusselt number distributions for a Rayleigh number range of $10^3$ to $10^5$. In addition, it is found that there is a wedge angle as shown the minimum mean Nusselt number for using an insulated enclosure.

The natural convection heat transfer within a trapezoidal enclosure with parallel cylindrical top and bottom walls at different temperatures and two adiabatic side walls are studied. A finite-difference method has been used to solve the governing equations numerically. The range of parameters studied herein are Prandtl number 0.7, aspect ratio from 0.5 to 4.0, Rayleigh number from $10^3$ to $3{\times}10^4$, enclosure tilt angle from 22.5 to 157.5 degrees. Mean and local Nusselt numbers are presented for discussing heat transfer characteristics within the enclosure. The heat balances for the hot and cold walls are differed by less than 1% for converged solutions, so these results appear to be reasonable.

The power train of reducer for driving cutter head device of tunnel boring machine makes use of 3-stage complex planetary gear system. The complex planetary gears are very important parts of reducer for tunnel boring machine because of strength problem. In the present study, calculating the specifications of the complex planetary gears and analyzing the gear bending and compressive stresses of the planetary gears, it is necessary to analyze gear bending and compressive stresses confidently for optimal design of the complex planetary gears in respect of cost and reliability. In this paper, analyze actual gear bending and compressive stresses analysis of the planetary gear system using Lewes & Hertz equation and verifying the calculated specifications of the complex planetary gears by evaluating the results with the data of allowable bending and compressive stress from the Stress - No. of cycles curves of gears are equally significant.
