Purpose: To evaluate the clinical and functional results of ankle arthroplasty and to analyze the complications in total ankle arthroplasty. Materials and Methods: Between October 1988 and October 1991, the total ankle arthroplasty had been performed in eight ankle joints of seven patients.. There were five patients with rheumatoid arthritis, one with osteoarthritis and one with traumatic arthritis. One patient had bilateral replacement. New Jersey type of prosthesis was used in six patients and one patient was performed with Odland type of prosthesis. The average age at surgery was 42.3 years (range, 33-54 years). The average follow-up period was 8.2 years (range, 6-10.5 years). Clinical evaluation was assessed according to the Ankle-Hind Foot Scale of American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society. Results: The average score was 81.4 (range, 76 - 90) at the most recent follow-up. All patients were satisfied with their clinical results. Relief of pain was excellent in most patients, but postoperatively there was no significant improvement in range of motion. One patient had arthrodesis at three year six months after total ankle arthroplasty due to deep infection. Conclusion: This study shows total ankle arthroplasty is a good alternative treatment in selected cases of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

In this study, nonlinear finite element analysis is carried out to investigate the dynamic characteristics and failure behavior of barge colliding with bridge pier. Using typical barges presented at Guide Specification and Commentary for Vessel Collision Design of Highway Bridges, the equivalent static impact load, damage length of bow and collision energy are obtained and reviewed. Modeling techniques of barge for collision analysis are introduced and numerical analysis results are compared.

High resolution aerial photographs and digital elevation models for Bangpo beach using UAV were generated in this study to analyze the thematic and geometric characteristics of coastal features. Based on 728 aerial images acquired on September 10, 2016 by the UAV, a image mosaic at 2.2 cm spatial resolution and a digital elevation model at 4.4 cm spatial resolution were developed. This study found out that Bangpo beach consisted of intertidal zone and supratidal zone. The intertidal zone can be subdivided into lower part and upper part with distinctive geomorphological characteristics. While the lower part included sand bars and ripple marks along the coastline, the cusps and sand dunes were the major coastal features of the upper part. Part of the intertidal zone was occupied by shore platform with average slope of 0.9 degree containing various sizes of gravels. The supratidal zone slanted toward ocean with berms on the surface with an interval of 15 m. These coastal features indicated the flow intensity towards to the land and tidal effect. It validated that the UAV application in coastal research was very effective analyzing to examine coastal processes.

본 연구에서는 광양-묘도 지역의 평균풍속을 추정하기 위하여, 일별 최대 풍속과 해당 방향에 대한 결합분포확률의 통계학적 해석에 극한값 확률분포 모델이 사용되었다. 이를 위하여, 교량 가설지점 인근의 기상관측소에 대한 일별 최대풍속 및 해당풍향의 데이터로부터 각각의 관측소에 대한 일별 최대기록의 빈도를 조사하였으며, 16방위 및 전방위에 대한 년 최대풍속의 표본을 추출하였다. 이러한 풍속기록은 Gumbel 및 Weibull 분포모델에 적용하였으며, 모멘트방법 및 최소제곱법 등을 통해 모수를 추정하였다. 또한, PPCC 검사를 통해 분포모델 및 모수의 적합 여부를 검사하였다. 적합 여부가 판단된 모수로부터, 해당 관측소별로 데이터의 표본 크기 및 교량 가설지점으로부터의 거리에 대한 요소를 고려하여 16방위 및 전방위에 대한 년 최대풍속을 추정하였다. In order to estimate mean wind speed in the Gwangyang-Myodo Region, the probability distribution model of extreme values has been used in the statistical analysis of joint distribution probability of daily maximum wind speed and corresponding direction in this paper. For this purpose frequency of daily maximum records at respective stations is inquired into and sample of largest yearly wind speed of sixteen compass direction and non-direction is extracted from daily data of maximum wind speed and appropriate direction of the meteorological observing stations nearby the bridge construction site. These extreme speed records are applied to Gumbel and Weibull distribution model and parameters are estimated through method of moment and method of least squares etc. And also, distribution and parameters are inquired into whether it is fitted through the probability plot correlation coefficient examination. From fitted parameters the largest yearly wind speed of sixteen compass direction and non-direction is extrapolated taking into account factors regarding sample size of data and distance from the bridge construction site according to the appropriate stations.

Seismic Safety Analysis of Intake Tower is very important because failure of intake tower may incur huge chaos on the modem society. Recently, there has been growing much concern about earthquake resistance of existing structures. This research demonstrates the dynamic fluid pressure calculation using added mass simulation. The actual safety evaluation has been conducted through not only the static analysis but also the dynamic analysis. According to the analysis results, the vibration incurred by earthquake may induce considerable danlage to the hydraulic structure. Therefore, the appropriate design process out of exact calculation is quite necessary.

Ethosuximide is an oral anticonvulsantic agent used in the first choice anti-absence seizure drug. The purpose of this study was to assess the pharmacokinetic profile of the ethosuximide in healthy Korean volunteers and to develop the efficient assay method of ethosuximide in human plasma. The pharmacokinetics of ethosuximide administered orally was evaluated after a dose of 500 mg. Ethosuximide was assayed from plasma by a specific HPLC method reading absorbance at 195 nm. AUC was 1222±160 μg/ml·hr, Cmax 14.21±1.74 μg/ml, Tmax 1.06±0.62 hr and half-life 77.83±12.46 hr. The half-life in Korean was longer than, in Caucasian (53~56 hr).
