자동차 프레스 금형의 스티로폼(styrofoam)모형 가공을 위한 전용 CAM 시스템 개발 및 활용

A dedicated CAM (Computer-Aided Machining) system is being developed, which generates tool-path for machining Styrofoam die patterns of automotive dies in Chrysler Corporation. A previous process to build die patterns was to "stick build" the pattern. This process uses die prints to get dimensions for the cores and then laying out the cores onto a Styrofoam base. Stock is then cut for the height of the cores and glued together. Finishing requires putting fillets in all corners. And then the NC machining of part-surface shape completes building a Styrofoam die pattern. The current process utilizing the dedicated CAM system almost removes the manual work, consequently reduces the lead time. The paper presents the overall system structures, tool-path generation, and the features of Styrofoam pattern machining

Developed in this research is a production information system for marine propellers. The paper deals with surface modeling and tool path generation modules of the system. Since the input point data may have some errors, the data is examined using the 2nd divided difference. The point data is interpolated to a G2 chord-length spline surface with some end-conditions. The effects of the various end-conditions on the interpolated surface are discussed in the paper. The tool paths for blade, fillet, and boss of the propeller are generated. Some illustrative examples from an industry are presented.
