Objectives : This study aimed to investigate the satisfaction of Korean medicine doctors (KMD) who conducted Korean medicine school doctor program (KMSD). We are going to use study as a foundation for activation KMSD program. Methods : Seoul Korean medicine association and Seoul metropolitan office of education conducted KMSD program for 22 schools in 2017. The program included health lessons, health counseling, and health care programs. After program finished, we carried out self-administered questionnaire survey to KMD who participated in KMSD program and we analysed it. Results : A total of 45 people answered the questionnaire, and 56% of respondents answered as 'Good progress' and 44% answered as 'Bad progress'. The reason for good progress was 'Good cooperation of School' (47.4%). 'Personalized program for participant' (23.68%), 'Support of Seoul Korean Medicine Association' (21.1%). The reason for 'Bad progress' was 'Bad cooperation of School' (37.8%), 'Lack of personal circumstances' (32.4%), 'Lack of motivation' (16.2%). The advantage of KMSD program included 'It is helpful for positive perception of the Korean medicine' and 'Korean medicine can contribute to improving public health, which is the health of schools' was 25%, 'It is helpful in expanding the services of Korean medicines to children and adolescents' was 17.6%, 'Highly satisfaction in participations' was 15.7%. The question of prerequisites for activation KMSD Program included 'Active cooperation of school' was 35.05%, 'Expand teaching materials and programs' was 20.62%, 'Support of Seoul Korean Medicine Association' was 15.46%. Conclusions : We will organize and activate programs of KMSD program and conduct program based on harmony of local community and school support, research of school health program. The program will contribute to improve student health and develop Korean health support program.

Objective: A general prejudice exists that all herbal medicines are not good for liver. We report that herbal medicine can have positive effects on the liver, based on the improved liver function test levels observed in one patient. We also suggest the effectiveness of co-administration of herbal and western medicines. Methods: We checked the liver function test levels of one patient measured on 12 July at another hospital. We identified worse levels on 7 August, when he was first admitted to Semyung University Hospital. We measured liver function test levels of the same patient after treatment with Korean herbal medicine on 14 and 21 August during hospitalization at Semyung Hospital. We compared the figures and evaluated the effectiveness of 'Saenggangeonbi-tang' herbal medicine in the liver. Results: The patient's liver function test levels were normal on 12 July, but had become abnormal by 7 August, when he was admitted to Semyung Hospital. The cause of liver dysfunction was suggested as Atorvastatin, one of the western drugs he had started to take. Continuous treatment with Korean herbal medicine resulted in a definite improvement in liver function. Conclusion: Korean herbal medicine can provide positive improvements in liver function test levels.
한의사 교의 사업을 통한 소아청소년기 금연 교육의 효용성 연구

Objectives Childhood & adolescence is the most crucial period in a lifetime to learn ability to maintain one's health even though this period usually has the least death rate or illness. Smoking is the one of the most common cause of one's death and illness, but can be avoidable. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the smoking cessation education through the program by school doctor of Korean medicine. Methods In 2017, the Seoul metropolitan office of education and the Seoul Korean medicine association implemented the program by school doctor of Korean medicine including smoking cessation education for 2 elementary schools (470 students) and 3 middle schools (1,106 students). And we carried out questionnaire to 211 people (1 elementary school and 1 middle school) and analyzed the results. Results The score in regards to smoking knowledge, before and after education, was increased from 3.35 to 4.22. The score in regards to negative perceptions about smoking, before and after education, was increased from 17.62 to 18.08. Conclusions After the smoking cessation education through the program by school doctor of Korean medicine, participants were highly satisfied because their knowledge about the smoke was increased as well as negative perception of the smoke. Therefore, development and application of smoking cessation programs will be needed.
양성 돌발성 체위성 현훈(Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo)에 관한 임상 문헌 고찰 - 국내에 출판된 한의약 임상 논문을 중심으로 -

Objectives: This study provides evidence for clinical practices by analyzing present clinical Korean medicine articles about benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Methods: Articles published up to July, 2017 were found by searching "BPPV", "Benign positions", and "Vertigo" as keywords in three domestic electric databases (i.e., OASIS, NDSL, RISS). Results: The initial search resulted in 228 articles; however, only 20 articles satisfied the selection criteria and were analyzed. Of these, 40% were published in the Journal of Korean Oriental Internal Medicine, and 35% were published in 2003. When diagnosing BPPV patients, VAS scores are primarily used for clinical assessments rather than objective diagnostic tools. Banhabaekchulcheonmatang was the most frequent herbal medicine used to treat BPPV, and the most commonly used therapeutic acupuncture point was Jok-samni (ST36). The most common diagnosis of BPPV was dam-eum according to nine studies. Conclusions: Systematic and large-scale research for the standardization of BPPV treatment is needed.

In this study, we fabricated a fiber-optic phantom dosimeter by arraying square type of plastic optical fibers in a PMMA phantom for measuring relative depth doses of therapeutic photon beams. To minimize the cross-talk between fiber-optic dosimeters, we selected appropriate septum by measuring leaked scintillating lights according to the various kinds of septa. In addition, we measured percentage depth doses of 6, 15 MV photon beams using a fiber-optic phantom dosimeter.

A reflection-type fiber-optic pH sensor, which is composed of a pH sol-gel film, plastic optical fibers, a mirror, a light source and a spectrometer, is developed in this study. As pH indicators, a bromthymol blue, a cresol red and a thymol blue are used, and they are immobilized in the sol-gel films. The emitted light from a light source is guided by a fiber-optic Y-coupler and plastic optical fibers to the pH sol-gel film in a pH sensing probe. The pH change in the sensing probe gives rise to a change in the color of the pH sol-gel film, and the optical characteristic of reflected light through the pH sol-gel film is also changed. Therefore, we have measured the spectra of reflected lights, which are changed according to the color variations of the pH sol-gel films with different pH values, by using of a spectrometer. Also, the relationships between the pH values and the intensities of reflected lights are obtained on the basis of the color variations of the pH sol-gel films.

A fiber-optic radiation sensor was fabricated using a sensing probe, a plastic optical fiber, a photomultiplier tube, and a multichannel analyzer for gamma-ray spectroscopy. As an inorganic scintillator of the sensing probe, a LYSO crystal was used. In this study, we obtained the relationship between the photon counts of the fiber-optic radiation sensor and the activity of the radioactive isotope. In addition, the gamma-ray energy spectra were also measured using a fiber-optic radiation sensor to discriminate species of gamma-ray emitters.

In this study, a fiber-optic pH sensor based on a pH sol-gel film is fabricated. The sol-gel film is made by co-polymerizing tetramethoxysilane, trimethoxymethylsilane, ethanol and distilled water. As a pH indicator, a neutral red is immobilized in a thin porous film formed by the sol-gel process. The pH change in a sensing probe gives rise to a change in the color of the pH sol-gel film, and the absorbance of reflected light through the pH sol-gel film is also changed. By using a spectrometer, therefore, the spectra of reflected lights in the sensing probe with different pH values are measured. Also, the relationships between the pH values and the absorbance are analyzed on the basis of the color variations of the pH sol-gel films. In repeated experiments, the fiber-optic pH sensor shows that it has reversibility, a high reproducibility and a wide absorbance change in a pH range from pH 5 to 9. Also, we confirmed that the fabricated pH sol-gel film exhibits a fast response time, little or no pH indicator leaching and a dynamic range of 2.04 dB from pH 5 to 9. Based on the results of this study, a fiber-optic pH sensor can be developed for the pH monitoring in the harsh environments.
