Transesterification reaction between dimethyl phthalate and ethylene glycol was kinetically investigated in the presence of various metal nitrate catalysts at 170℃. The reaction rates measured by the amount of distilled methanol from the reaction vessel. The transesterification reaction was carried out under the first order conditions respect to the concentration of dimethyl phthalate and catalyst, respectively. The over-all order was 2nd. By Arrhenius plot, the activation energy was calculated as 17.4kcal/mole and 17.2kcal/mole on the transesterification reaction with zinc nitrate and leas nitrate, respectively. Apparent rate constant. k` was appeared linear about concentration of catalyst.
아조벤젠을 함유한 장쇄 지방산의 광재현성과 안정성에 관한 연구

The synthesis of long chain fatty acid containing azobenzene and (C_n-Azo) was optimized, starting from p-(p`-hyroxy phenyl azo)-benzoic acid and the product of reaction containing azobenzene chromophores was investigated by ultraviolet spectrophotometery in chloroform solvent at the various temperature. In addition, Reversibility and stability of azo compounds have been measured by means of Ultraviolet and the structure of these compound were ascertained by means of FT-IR and NMR. Recrystallization of reaction product in the solvent results the experimental yield obtained about 62.93% p-(p`-octadecyloxy phenyl azo)-benzoic acid. Long chain azobenzene derivatives in chloroform solution aer induced photoisomerization by u. v. and visible light irradiation. The solution of long chain fatty acids(C_n-Azo) containing azobenzene are possible of being applied to functional molecular devices such as photomemory and light switching.
p-Cyanoazobenzene 을 함유한 Polyamic Acid 의 수면상의 Maxwell 변위 전류 측정

Maxwell displacement current(MDC) measuring technique has been applied on the study of monolayers of polyamic acid containing ρ-cyanoazobenzene. The displacement current was generated from monolayers on the water surface by monolayer compression and expansion. Displacement current was generated when the area per molecule was about 140A˚^2 and 100A˚^2. Maxwell displacement currents were investigated in connection with monolayer compression cycles. It was found that the maximum of MDC appeared at the molecular area just before the initial rise of surface pressure in compression cycles.

We investigated the electrochemical properties for Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films mixed with 4-octyl-4'-(5-carboxylpentamethyleneoxy)azobenzene (denoted as 8A5H) and phospholipid(L-a-dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine, denoted as DMPC and L-a-dilauroylphosphayidylcholine, denoted as DLPC). The LB films of 8A5H, 8A5H-DMPC and 8A5H-DLPC mixture monolayers were deposited by using the LB method on the indium tin oxide(ITO) glass. The electrochemical properties measured by using cyclic voltammetry with a three-electrode system, an Ag/AgCl reference electrode, a platinum wire counter electrode and LB film-coated ITO working electrode at various concentrations(0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 mol/L) of $NaClO_4$ solution. A measuring range was reduced from initial potential to -1350 mV, continuously oxidized to 1650 mV and measured to the initial point. The scan rates were 50, 100, 150 and 200 mV/s, respectively. As a result, LB films of 8A5H and 8A5H-DLPC mixture monolayers appeared irreversible process caused by only the oxidation current from the cyclic voltammogram and LB films of 8A5H-DMPC monolayer mixture was found to be caused by a reversible oxidation-reduction process.

The saturated fatty acids(arachidic acid, stearic, and palmitic acid) were repeatedly applied on water surface, and their π-A isotherms and Maxwell displacement current(MDC) were measured to identify the effect of the number of carbons of fatty acids on the properties of Langmuir films. The saturated fatty which contain higher carbon number showed higher MDC peak, and the less carbon it contains, the higher surface pressure they show. It was found the maximum of MDC peaks was as the molecular area just before the surface pressure increases in compression cycles of saturated fatty acids.
L-${\alpha}$-Phosphatidylethanolamine 단분자층 LB막의 안정성에 관한 연구

인지질(L-${\alpha}$-phosphatidylethanolamine, LAPE) 단분자층 LB막의 전기화학적 특성을 통하여 그 안정성을 순환전압전류법으로 조사하였다. LAPE 단분자층 LB막은 ITO glass에 LB법을 사용하여 제막하였다. 전기화학적특성은 0.5 N, 1.0 N, 1.5 N 및 2.0 N $KClO_4$ 용액에서 3 전극 시스템으로 순환전압전류법에 의해 측정하였다. 측정범위는 연속적으로 1650 mV로 산화시키고, 초기 전위인 -1350 mV로 환원시켰다. 주사속도는 각각 50, 100, 150, 200 및 250 mV/s로 설정하였다. 그 결과 LAPE LB막은 순환전압전류곡선으로부터 산화전류로 인한 비가역공정으로 나타났다. LAPE LB막은 전해질농도가 0.01 N, 0.05 N. 0.10 N, 0.15 N 과 0.20 N $KClO_4$ 용액에서 확산계수(D)는 각각 195, 15.9, 5.75, 1.38 및 $0.754cm^2s^{-1}{\times}10^{-9}$을 얻었다. We were investigated by cyclic voltammetry to the stability through the electrochemical characteristics of phospholipid(L-${\alpha}$-phosphatidylethanolamine, LAPE) monolayer LB films. LAPE monolayer LB films was deposited by the LB method on the indium tin oxide(ITO) glass. The electrochemical properties was measured by cyclic voltammetry with a three-electrode system in 0.5 N, 1.0 N, 1.5 N and 2.0 N $KClO_4$ solution. The measuring range is continuously oxidized to 1650 mV, with an initial potential of -1350 mV was reduced. Scanning rates of 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 mV/s was set. As a result, LB monolayer films of LAPE was appeared on irreversible processes by the oxidation current from the cyclic voltammogram. Diffusion coefficient (D) of LAPE was calculated 195, 15.9, 5.75, 1.38 and $0.754cm^2s^{-1}{\times}10^{-9}$ at 0.01 N, 0.05 N, 0.10 N, 0.15 N and 0.20 N $KClO_4$ solutions, respectively.

The transesterification reaction between ethanolamine and methyl-methacrylate was kinetically investigated in the presence of various metal acetate catalysts at 110℃. The transesterification was found to obey first-order kinetice with respect to the concentration of ethanolamine and methyl-methacrylate, respectively. By the arrhenius plot, the activation energy has been calculated as 11.9 Kcal with lead acetate catalyst, 14.7 Kcal without catalyst. The reactivities has highest value where the electronegativity and instability constant (Kij) values for the metal acetate catalysts are about 1.6.
