To investigate of the physical growth and annual physical growth changes of the Korean high school girls, the stature, span, upper extremity and lower extremity lengths and body weight of 3, 248 girls ranging from 16 to 19 years of age were measured. The correlation coefficients between the items were also calculated from each age group. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The averages of stature were 156.92cm in 16 years of age group, and 157.03 cm in 17 years of age group, 156.95cm in 18 years of age group, and 156.70cm in 19 years of age group, no significant annual stature variation between age groups were recognized in the stature. 2. The averages of span were 155.56 cm in 16 years of age group, 155.34 cm in 17 years of age group, 155.34 cm in 18 years of age group and 154.63cm in 19 years of age group, there were no significant annual span variation between age groups. 3. The averages of length of upper extremity were 69.53cm in 16 years of age group, 69.72cm in 17 years of age group, 69.40 cm in 18 years of age group, and 69.05cm in 19 years of age group, so there is no significant annual variation of upper extremity length between each age groups. 4. The averages of length of lower extremity were 85.05cm in 16 years of age group, 94.91cm in 17 years of age group, 85.51cm in 18 years years of age group, and 85.39cm in 19 years of age group, so there is no significant annual variation of lower extremity length between each age groups. 5. The averages of body weight were 51.30kg in 16 years of age group, 51.93kg in 17 years of age group, 52.68kg in 18 years of age group, and 52.78kg in 19 years of age group, so the body weight had a tendency to increase with aging. 6. The correlation coefficients between stature and span in all age groups were very high over 0.8 respectively. 7. The correlation coefficients between stature and upper extremity, between stature and lower extremity, also between sp an and upper extremity length in all age groups were high over 0.6 respectively. 8. The correlation coefficients between span and lower extremity were moderate or low in all age groups. 9. The correlation coefficients between body weight and stature, span, upper and lower extremity lengths in all age groups were moderate.
지극간장과 던지기와 팔굽혀 매달리기 성적에 관한 연구 : Ball-Throwing and Dangling with Flexed Arms

With the intention of studying the probable correlations between the span-breadth of upper extremities the ball-throwing distance and the dangling hour with flexed arms(which are items of the physical strength measurement system for an entrance examination for a university established by rthe Ministry of Education),the biometrical measurement and the athletic record examination were performed to 2,727 Korean female ranging from 16 to 19 years of age. The ball-throwing records represent the extending power of upper extremities, and the dangling records represent the flexing power of upper extremities respectively. The results obtained are as follows: 1. Ball-throwing records by each age group increase slightly with age(20.67m in16, 20.76m in 17, 21.20m in 18 and 21.73m in 19 years of age), and with span-breadth of upper extremities. These results are well in agreement with the very low positive correlation coefficients(0.091 in 16, 0.064 in 17, 0.123 in 18 and 0.125 in 19 years of age) between the ball-throwing records and the spanbreadth of upper extremities. The important facts are that the ball-throwing distance was increased by 7.85-8.50㎝ for each 1㎝ increase in the span-breadth in the age groups of 16 and 17, but are affected by many other factirs with the increase of age. 2. The correlation between the span-breadth and the dangling hour showed almost negligible values of the correlation coefficients(-0.048 in 16, -0.033 in 17, -0.060 in abd 0.089 in 19 years of age). The dangling records by each age group increase slightiy with age except for the age group of 19 (11.74 sec. in 16, 13.29 sec, in 17, 17.78 sec. in 18 and 14.70 sec. in 19 years of age). These results indicate that the endurance and muscular development become active with the increase of age, but the decreased dangling records in the age group of 19(14.70 sec.) are due to the burden resulting from the increased body weight. It is thus believed that dangling records with flexed arms are significantly related to the muscular development of upper extremities, endurance, and body weight. 3. According to the physical strength evaluation table established by the Ministry of Education in 1980, the ball-throwing and dangling records of 18 years of age which corresponds to the age of an entance examination for a university is 6-8 points on the basis of 20 points. Author would like to advise the Minustry to revise the table assigning 10-12 points of the average marks to the ball-throwing and dangling records, judging from the results obtained in this study.
