6단계 이야기 구성의 한 페이지 만화 시리즈 제작 연구: 윈저 매케이의 <잠의 나라 리틀 니모> 초기 작품 분석을 중심으로

현대 만화는 종이 안의 ‘페이지’라는 한정된 영역을 벗어나며 보다 자유로운 형식과 감상 방식을 갖게 되었지만, 만화 고유의 서사 리듬의 전개와 속성은 어느 매체에서든 변함이 없다. 만화의 역사에서 19~20세기 미국 신문 매체의 코믹 스트립과초기 애니메이션의 발전에 선구자적 역할을 하며 강한 영향력을 미친 윈저 매케이와 관련 분야의 연구는 존재하나 <잠의 나라 리틀 니모> 이야기와 구조에 관한 연구는 미흡하였다. 이론적 연구에 따른 작품 제작을 위해 <잠의 나라 리틀 니모> 원작안에 삽입된 등장인물과 주제를 찾고 텍스트를 분석하여 5단계 구성으로 나누고, 5개의 패널로 압축하여 전체적인 이야기전개가 가능한지 살펴보았다. 그 후 분석한 이야기의 기본 구조를 바탕으로 웹과 프린트 모두에 적합한 6단계 구성의 한 페이지 만화 시리즈를 창작하였다. 연구 결과, 단순한 이야기 패턴이 반복되는 정방형의 6칸 구성의 한 페이지 시리즈는 특정플랫폼에 게시하였을 때 가독성이 높지만, 자유로운 패널 디자인의 제작은 제한되었다. 본 연구의 시리즈 작품 창작을 통하여 만화 제작의 기본기를 다질 수 있는 한 페이지 만화의 새로운 가능성을 보여주고 이야기 구조의 이해에 따라 작업의 확장을 기대할 수 있다. 또한 시대가 변하여도 가치 있는 출판만화에 관한 지속적인 연구와 변용이 요구된다. While modern comics have evolved beyond the confines of the traditional ‘page’ in paper, embracing more flexible formats and modes of consumption, the narrative rhythm and properties inherent to comics remain unchanged across any medium. In the history of comics, figures like Windsor McCay played pioneering roles, exerting strong influence through the development of comic strips in 19th and 20th century American newspapers and early animation. Research on McCay and related fields exists. However, studies specifically focusing on the story and structure of “Little Nemo in Slumberland” are inadequate. To bridge this gap, this study seeks to identify characters and themes embedded within the original “Little Nemo in Slumberland,” analyzing the text and dividing it into a five-stage structure. Furthermore, by compressing this structure into five panels, the feasibility of presenting the entire narrative is examined. Based on these findings, a one-page comic series with a six-stage structure suitable for both web and print mediums is produced. The one-page series with a simple story pattern of repeating square-shaped six-panel layouts resulted in high readability when posted on a specific platform, but it restricted the creation of free-form panel designs. Through the creation of this series, it showcases the potential of one-page comics to solidify the fundamentals of comic creation while also opening up new possibilities for storytelling structures. Moreover, as times change, ongoing research and adaptation are required to ensure the continued relevance of valuable published comics.

Transcriptional Properties of the BMP, TGF-β, RTK, Wnt, Hh, Notch, and JAK/STAT Signaling Molecules in Mouse Embryonic Stem Cells

Major characteristics of embryonic stem cells (ESCs) are sustaining of stemness and pluripotency by self-renewal. In this report, transcriptional profiles of the molecules in the developmentally important signaling pathways including Wnt, BMP4, TGF-β, RTK, Hh, Notch, and JAK/STAT signaling pathways were investigated to understand the self- renewal of mouse ESCs (mESCs), J1 line, and compared with the NIH3T3 cell line and mouse embryonic fibroblast (MEF) cells as controls. In the Wnt signaling pathway, the expression of Wnt3 was seen widely in mESCs, suggesting that the ligand may be an important regulator for self-renewal in mESCs. In the Hh signaling pathway, the expression of Gli and N-myc were observed extensively in mESCs, whereas the expression levels of in a Shh was low, suggesting that intracellular molecules may be essential for the self-renewal of mESCs. IGF-I, IGF-II, IGF-IR and IGF-IIR of RTK signaling showed a lower expression in mESCs, these molecules related to embryo development may be restrained in mESCs. The expression levels of the Delta and HES5 in Notch signaling were enriched in mESCs. The expression of the molecules related to BMP and JAK-STAT signaling pathways were similar or at a slightly lower level in mESCs compared to those in MEF and NIH3T3 cells. It is suggested that the observed differences in gene expression profiles among the signaling pathways may contribute to the self-renewal and differentiation of mESCs in a signaling-specific manner.

드로잉과 스토리텔링 중심의 온라인 참여형 챌린지 연구 - 잉크토버 2023 챌린지 참여 작품을 중심으로 -

연구배경 삽화가와 만화가는 일상에서 반복적으로 지속할 수 있는 건강한 드로잉 습관을 갖는 것이 중요하다. 드로잉은 언제 어디서든 개인이 할 수 있지만 같은 목표와 지정된 시간에 소속감을 느끼며 하는 것은 효율성과 동기부여의 긍정적 효과를 기대할 수 있다. 온라인 챌린지가 하나의 문화현상으로 자리 잡으며 단발적 성격의 챌린지에 관한 연구는 증가하였지만, 오랜 기간 성장해 온 드로잉과 스토리텔링을 기반으로 한 챌린지에 연구자가 직접 참여한 연구가 필요하였다. 연구방법 드로잉과 스토리텔링이라는 관심사를 중심으로 참여할 수 있는 챌린지 중 대표적인 ‘잉크토버’ 챌린지에 참가하여 주어진 31개의 프롬프트 리스트를 바탕으로 드로잉을 완성하였다. 이후 2023년 10월 한 달간 개인 인스타그램 계정에 게시한 후 작품에 대한 반응을 살펴보았다. 연구결과 완성된 31개의 작품 중 '좋아요' 수에 따른 상위 성과 4개의 작품에 대한 발상과 표현을 분석하였다. 결과적으로 자신만의 이야기와 독특한 발상을 부여하여 단순히 그림 감상의 목적 이상의 감동이나 웃음, 생각을 유발한 작품이 좋은 반응을 얻었다. 결론 ‘잉크토버’ 챌린지 참여를 통한 결론은 첫째, 작품의 차별성은 개인의 경험을 토대로 한 스토리텔링으로부터 나타났다. 둘째, 개인 계정에서의 작품 공유는 참여자들이 지속적으로 참여하도록 격려한다. 셋째, 일상생활에 영향을 미치지 않으면서 지속 가능한 드로잉 습관을 형성하는 것이 중요하다. 한계점으로는 온라인 기반의 챌린지는 1인 작가 개인의 목표 달성이 중심이 되므로 커뮤니티 안의 참여 작가들과의 직접적인 소통의 기회가 제한적이다. Background Illustrators and cartoonists require a consistent and healthy drawing habit in their daily lives. While drawing can be done individually anytime and anywhere, engaging in group activities with shared goals and designated time frames can lead to positive effects on efficiency and motivation. Although short-term challenges have become a cultural phenomenon and research on them has increased, there is a need for researchers to directly participate in studies focusing on challenges rooted in drawing and storytelling, which have evolved over an extended period. Methods With a focus on drawing and storytelling, the researcher participated in the prominent "Inktober" challenge, completing drawings based on a provided list of 31 prompts. Subsequently, the artworks were posted on a personal Instagram account for one month in October 2023, and reactions to the works were observed. Result The analysis focused on the conceptualization and expression of the top-performing four artworks based on the number of likes among the completed 31 pieces. Ultimately, works that evoked more than mere visual appreciation by conveying emotions, humor, or thoughts through unique storytelling and distinct concepts received positive responses. Conclusion Findings from participating in the Inktober challenge suggest that individuality in artworks stemmed from storytelling based on personal experiences. Sharing artworks on personal accounts encourages sustained participation. Forming sustainable drawing habits that do not disrupt daily life routines is crucial. However, a limitation lies in the limited opportunity for direct communication among participating artists within the community due to the individual-centric nature of online-based challenges.

대구ㆍ경북지역 다크 투어리즘(Dark Tourism)의 선택속성 및 활성화 방안에 관한 연구

아픈 역사나 참사의 현장을 관광지로 만드는 목적은 이러한 어두운 과거의 사건들이 사람들의 기억에서 잊혀 지지 않고 이로 인해 과거의 아픔이 반복되는 것을 방지하기 위함이다. 또한 이러한 일련의 사건들에 대한 관심을 관광이라는 자연스러운 연결 고리를 통해 보다 많은 사람들이 접할 수 있도록 해야 하고 생생한 현장감을 활용해 많은 사람들에게 현실감 있는 현장으로서 교훈을 주는 동시에 지역 경제 활성화에도 도움을 줄 수 있는 관광자원화가 되어야 하지만 실상은 그러하지 못하다. 본 연구의 목적은 다크 투어리즘으로서의 중요도에 관한 요인을 도출하기 위하여 관광지 선택속성의 요소와 관광지 활성화의 요소를 조합하여 요인을 추출하였다. 따라서 본 연구는 대구 ㆍ 경북에서 다크 투어리즘을 지속적으로 개발하고 활성화하기 위해 기존의 다크 투어리즘에 관한 선행 연구들이 보여주지 못했던 다크 투어리즘의 선택속성 평가 시 중요한 요소를 도출하고 도출된 항목의 우선순위를 분석함으로써 대구 ㆍ 경북지역 다크 투어리즘에 효과적인 시사점을 제공하는데 의의가 있다. 본 연구의 결과 다크 투어리즘이라는 관광패턴은 문화성이 우선순위에서 가장 높게 나타났다. 이는 다크 투어리즘을 체험할 때 인지도와 역사성이 중요한 요인이라는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 대구ㆍ경북지역 다크 투어리즘 활성화를 위해서 문화성을 강조한 다크 투어리즘을 활용에 초점을 맞추어 관광지로 활용하는 것이 가장 중요하다는 것을 시사한다. 또한 다크 투어리즘의 주변환경과 서비스는 우선순위에서 낮게 나타났는데 이는 대부분의 다크 투어리즘이 실내에서 이루어지기 때문에 서비스 및 주변환경과는 무관하다는 것을 알 수 있다. The purpose of this study is to draw the effective suggestions for Daegu and Kyungbook province through the data analysis of the important attributes to vitalize the dark tourism for these areas and through order of priority of the data which have not been done before for these areas. To draw the considered attributes to evaluate the dark tourism of these areas, the survey was carried out targeting the related experts. To seek advice on the standard criteria for this study, the expert group was composed of and the direct interview was performed mainly. Especially, to focus on gathering advice not only from the limited experts but also various experts related with dark tourism, the survey was carried out targeting as many as respondents and the survey group was composed of five policy related persons, five hands-on background persons from tourism field, and five from academia. According to the result of the study, the cultural attribute of the dark tourism is ranked high in terms of order of priority. Based on this result, perception and historical factors are important attribute when people choose dark tourism destinations. Hence, to vitalize the dark tourism of Daegu and Kyungbook province, it is the most important to focus on the cultural aspects of these areas as the key of dark tourism.

이미지 기반의 독립출판 아티스트 북 제작과 유통 연구 - 《선녀와 새우튀김》을 중심으로 -

연구배경 최근 독립출판은 하나의 문화로 자리 잡았다. 일러스트레이터에게 독립출판은 작가의 개성과 세계관을 드러낼 수 있는 수단으로 포트폴리오의 역할을 한다. 국내에서 독립서점과 출판에 관한 연구와 사례 조사는 2010년 중반 이후 증가하였으나, 이미지 기반의 출판물 중 창작자 관점에서의 만화와 일러스트레이션 관련 독립출판물에 관한 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 연구방법 이론적 연구에서는 아티스트 북의 개념 정립을 위해 논문과 단행본을 중심으로 문헌 조사를 하였다. 사례 연구에서는 일러스트레이션과 만화를 포함하는 이미지를 가진 독립출판물과 작가를 조사하였다. 그 후 작품제작을 위해 원작인 <선녀와 나무꾼>의 변이 유형을 살펴보았다. 이를 바탕으로 제작된 아티스트 북에서 재창조된 캐릭터, 서사구조, 완성작을 통한 독립서점 위탁 등의 유통에 따른 결과를 알아보았다. 연구결과 <선녀와 나무꾼>이 현대적으로 변용된 《선녀와 새우튀김》은 미국 독립서점과 작가의 온라인 상점에서 국외 소비자를 중심으로 즉각적 반응을 보였다. 반면 한국 독립서점에서는 반응 속도가 상대적으로 더딘 현상을 발견하였다. 이러한 결과에 따른 원인은 독립서점과 작가, 작품과 소비자의 경향과 문화적 배경 등에 영향을 받는 것으로 사료되었다. 결론 상업 출판사의 제약 없이 작가 개인이 기획부터 제작, 판매까지의 과정을 모두 거치는 과정은 일러스트레이터로써 작가정신과 주체성을 가질 수 있다. 또한, 작가의 관점과 개성을 모두 담은 출판물로 대중과 직, 간접적으로 소통할 수 있다는 것에 긍정적 효과가 있다. 한계점으로는 유통을 위한 독립서점의 입고절차 과정에서 완전히 자유로울 수 없다는 것이다. 또한, 판매 외의 수익 창출을 위해 전시, 페어, 공모전 등에 의한 2차 홍보가 필수적으로 요구된다. Background In recent years, independent publishing has established itself as a cultural phenomenon. For illustrators, independent publishing serves as a means to showcase an artist's individuality and worldview, effectively playing a role in their portfolio. While research and case studies on independent bookstores and publishing have seen an increase in South Korea since the mid-2010s, there remains a lack of comprehensive studies on independent publications related to comics and illustrations from the creator's perspective within the realm of image-based publishing. Methods In theoretical research, a literature review was conducted, primarily focusing on papers and monographs to establish the concept of artists’ books. For case studies, investigations were carried out on independent publications featuring images, including illustrations and comics, as well as artists primarily engaged in independent publishing. In the process of creating the artwork, variations of the original work "The Fairy and the Woodcutter“ were examined. Based on this, an examination was conducted to explore the outcomes resulting from the distribution of reimagined characters, narrative structures, and finalized works through independent bookstore consignments within the artist books produced on this foundation. Result The contemporary adaptation of “The Fairy and the Woodcutter,” which reinterprets traditional folklore, in “The Fairy and the Fried Shrimp,” received an immediate response, primarily from international consumers, through U.S. independent bookstores and the artist's online store. In contrast, a relatively slower response rate was observed in South Korean independent bookstores. The underlying reasons for these results are believed to be influenced by factors such as the tendencies of independent bookstores, the artist, the artwork, and the cultural background of consumers. Conclusion The process in which individual artists, free from the constraints of commercial publishing companies, handle everything from planning to production and sales allows illustrators to maintain artistic spirit and autonomy. Additionally, it has a positive effect on creating publications that encompass both the artist's perspective and personality, enabling direct and indirect communication with the public. However, limitations include not having complete freedom in the stocking process at independent bookstores for distribution. Furthermore, secondary promotion through exhibitions, fairs, and competitions is essential for generating revenue beyond sales.

한국 호랑이 재해석 작품 창작 연구

연구배경 호랑이에 대한 관심과 사랑은 호랑이가 멸종된 현재까지도 끊임없이 지속되고 있다. 우리 전통에서도 호랑이는 빼놓을 수 없는 상징적 동물이며 선조들의 작품에도 다양하게 쓰였다. 이를 바탕으로 전시를 위한 일러스트레이션 작품으로서의 호랑이 시리즈를 창작하였다. 연구방법 호랑이의 생태적 특징을 바탕으로 선조들의 호랑이 그림에 대해 연구하고 현대 성공적인 재해석 사례를 살펴보았다. 연구방법으로는 도서, 논문, 문헌조사, 출판물, 전시 도록, 온라인 검색, 전시 관람을 중심으로 하였다. 연구결과 호랑이는 그 상징적 이미지가 사나운 맹수부터 풍자와 해학까지 다양하게 있다. 작품에서는 선조들의 호랑이 그림을 기반으로 하여 매, 토끼, 까치와 함께 호랑이의 얼굴, 좌호, 입호를 나타냈으며 현대 멸종된 호랑이를 로봇, 건물, 박제로 표현하여 우리에게 처한 문제들을 대입해 이에 대해 생각해 볼 수 있는 시사점을 주려 하였다. 결론 호랑이의 재해석 작품으로 심리적, 관상적 효과를 낼 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 현대사회의 인간과 동물의 공존에 대한 양면성에 대해 생각해 볼 수 있다. 또한 작품의 비주얼 스토리텔링을 통하여 접근성을 용이하게 하여 한국의 미를 세계에 알리는 계기가 될 수 있다. Background Even though Korean tigers are extinct, interest and love for tigers continue to this day. In Korean traditional works, tigers are an indispensable symbolic animal and have been used in various ways. Based on these, this paper is a theoretical report to show the process of releasing three pieces of artwork representing modern society's backside under the theme of extinct Korean tigers. Methods Based on the tiger's ecological characteristics, the research focuses on reviewing the old Korean tiger paintings and find some artworks and products that successfully reinterpreted cases of modern times. The study sources are books, papers, publications, exhibition catalogs, online searches, and visiting exhibitions. Result Tigers have a variety of symbolic images ranging from fierce beasts to satire and humor. The series comprises a tiger face with three hawks, a walking pose with four magpies, and a sitting pose smoking cigarettes with five rabbits. The tigers in each piece reinterpret into a robot, building, and a stuffed tiger. The series intended to realize the problems of dealing with extinct animals in modern society. Conclusion The final works of tigers can be a part of the aesthetic indoor interior and give a chance to think about the two sides of the coexistence of humans and animals in modern society. In addition, it can be an opportunity to promote Korean beauty to the world through Korea's fascinating visual storytelling of the work.
