        국내 바이오제약 산업의 기업효율성에 영향을 미치는 요인 분석 연구- 비즈니스 모델, 개방형 혁신 유형을 중심으로 -

        The biopharmaceutical industry is an industry with great growth potential for future growth, characterized by massive R&D investment, high risks and high profits, strict regulations by regulators and economic outbreaks of scale at the global market level. However, as time goes by, R&D efficiency is gradually decreasing and global companies are increasingly embracing Open innovation away from existing closed R&D approaches. In response, this study analyze the efficiency of domestic biopharmaceutical companies by business model and analyze the factors that affect efficiency from an Open innovation perspective. The data analyzed the ‘Survey of Domestic Bioindustry conducted by the Korea Bio Association through an annual survey and was classified into an ‘Integrated group (G1)’ that combines production and R&D and a ‘Research concentration group (G2)’ that focuses only on R&D. First, efficiency was compared through DEA analysis and the R&D concentration group was analyzed more efficiently than the integrated group. Next, the perspective of Open innovation was analyzed through Tobit method and overall non-technical cooperation rather than technological cooperation among Open innovation was found to have a positive effect on efficiency, and joint research had a negative effect on individual activities. The above result is Biopharmaceutical companies need intensive investment in R&D but it shows that financial investment is more efficient than R&D, which requires long-term resource input to increase efficiency in a short period of time.

        서해안 천수만 일대 양식 조피볼락(Sebastes schlegeli)의 상피 선충 감염현황

        We investigated a nematode infection in the epithelial tissue of rockfish Sebastes schlegeli cultured in Cheonsu Bay,western Korea, from May 2013 to April 2014. Nematodes infected the epithelial tissues of various external organs,including the fins, operculum, nares, mouth, and head. Over a 1-year period, the overall nematode infection ratein rockfish was 55% (n=89/163): 56.7% (n=17/30) in May 2013, 88% (n=29/33) in August 2013, 0% (n=0/30) inOctober 2013, 70% (n=21/30) in January 2014, and 55% (n=22/40) in April 2014. During this study, the only massmortality of cultured rockfish in Cheonsu Bay was in August 2013, when we identified skin wounds on the rockfishcaused by the nematodes escaping from their hosts. During this period, the accumulated mortality for 2 weeks was1.4–22.4% in different farms. In addition, several pathogenic bacteria (Photobacterium damselae, Vibrio spp., andStreptococcus iniae) were isolated from the moribund rockfish; these were thought to be transmitted through the skinwounds caused by the nematodes.

        A polymorphic minisatellite region of BORIS regulates gene expression and its rare variants correlate with lung cancer susceptibility

        Aberrant expression of BORIS/CTCFL (Brother of the Regulator of Imprinted Sites/CTCF-like protein) is reported in different malignancies. In this study, we characterized the entire promoter region of BORIS/CTCFL, including the CpG islands, to assess the relationship between BORIS expression and lung cancer. To simplify the construction of luciferase reporter cassettes with various-sized portions of the upstream region, genomic copies of BORIS were isolated using TAR cloning technology. We analyzed three promoter blocks: the GATA/CCAAT box, the CpG islands and the minisatellite region BORIS-MS2. Polymorphic minisatellite sequences were isolated from genomic DNA prepared from the blood of controls and cases. Of the three promoter blocks, the GATA/CCAAT box was determined to be a critical element of the core promoter, while the CpG islands and the BORIS-MS2 minisatellite region were found to act as regulators. Interestingly, the polymorphic minisatellite region BORIS-MS2 was identified as a negative regulator that repressed the expression levels of luciferase reporter cassettes less effectively in cancer cells compared with normal cells. We also examined the association between the size of BORIS-MS2 and lung cancer in a case–control study with 590 controls and 206 lung cancer cases. Rare alleles of BORIS-MS2 were associated with a statistically significantly increased risk of lung cancer (odds ratio, 2.04; 95% confidence interval, 1.02–4.08; and P=0.039). To conclude, our data provide information on the organization of the BORIS promoter region and gene regulation in normal and cancer cells. In addition, we propose that specific alleles of the BORIS-MS2 region could be used to identify the risk for lung cancer.
