The liquid crystalline properties of trimethylsily cellulose (TMSC) and phenylacetoxy cellulose (PAC) in 1,1,2-trichloroethane were investigated. The liquid crystalline texture of solutions were observed with a polarizing microscope and the birefringence were determined using a refractometer. Optical observation showed that the concentrated solutions reflected the iridescent colors resulting from the cholesteric nature of the mixture. The birefringence of the solution was found to be independent of the concentration at highly anisotropic phases. The rheological responses of the lyotropic cellulose derivatives showed remarkable differences in the measured values such as dynamic viscosity (η') and elasticity parameter (G'/2G") at the vicinity of the critical and saturation concentrations. Above the saturation concentration, the elasticity increased at lower frequencies, but at higher frequencies it decreased. This may be attributed to a significant deformation of orientational order of cholesteric liquid crystalline domain at higher frequencies. From the rheological obervations of the solution it is concluded that the rigid phenyl group in PAC may be additional advantage to stabilize the mesophase domains, however, the bulky and flexible side chains in TMSC may cause the liquid crystalline domains to be deformed easily under high shear deformation rate.

The lyotropic liquid crystalline order of cellulose derivatives was studied with the series of cellulose derivatives. The rheological properties of liquid crystalline hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC) and acetoxypropylcellulose (APC) are reported here as a part of these series of studies. The variation of physicochemical state of liquid crystals under dynamic shear conditions were measured with Rheometrics Dynamic Spectrometer (RDS) employing parallel plate geometry. Both HPC and APC showed abrupt changes of the measured values such as tanδ, G'/2G", and n' in the vicinity of critical (C*) and saturated (Cs) concentrations. At low frequencies, both two lyotropic systems exhibited a decrease of loss factor with concentration. At high frequencies, however, loss factor was increased at higher concentrations, which may be attributed to a significant deformation of orientational order of liquid crystalline domain.

By the late 1970s there had been created a greater sense of weird, uncanny and characteristic culture in England. That cultural movement not only represents the aesthetics of Death, Dark and Black but also arouses diverse controversy. After all the general public call these grotesque image "Goth". Even though people in Korea do not either think of Goth as the mainstream of mass culture or accept it as new branch of subculture, people in other countries such as US, UK and Japan regard Goth as unique style which has significant repercussions. In addition, especially rock music attempts to broaden the area of Goth style, advances the movement for transforming into new current icon, increases opportunities for public expansion, and brings the fresh tendency of fashion flow. The majority of conservative viewers, nevertheless, associate the "Goth" with vulgarity and ineptitude because of lack of understanding to novel expression. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to define both what is the peculiar feature of "Goth", which attributed to Gothic Art and how to express "Goth" fashion to make-up art in design collection. Finally, this study will come to a conclusion that this outline changes over from the ambiguous concept of “Goth” to more obvious and more familiar culture.

Nonlinear Vibration of a flexible circular ring is studied in this paper. Based upon the von Karman strain theory, the nonlinear governing equations are derived, in which the in-plane bending and extension displacements as well as the out-of-plane bending displacement are fully coupled. After discretizing the governing equations by the Galerkin approximation method, we obtain the linearlized equation by using the pertubation method. The results from the linearlized equations show that the in-plane displacement has effects on the natural frequencies of the out-of-plane displacement.

The effect of the mechanical properties of sewing threads on the seam pucker of wool fabric has been studied. The results of the theoretical and experimental study of the structural jamming showed that the effect of structural jamming on the seam pucker is minimal. Among the mechanical properties of sewing thread, the initial modulus and the residual strain after 7th cycle of extension/relaxation had significant effect on the seam pucker. High sewing thread tension resulted in severe seam pucker after sewing.
물놀이형 수경시설의 수질과 항생제 내성 대장균 분포에 관한 연구

Objective: This study was performed in order to investigate the distribution of antibiotic resistant E. coli and water quality in waterscape facilities. Methods: Nine waterscape facilities were selected and classified into three types: ground, wall and general fountain. The items analyzed in this study were pH, turbidity, $KMnO_4$ consumption, total colony, total coliforms, fecal coliforms and E. coli. Additionally, an antibiotic resistance test on E. coli was performed. Results: There were no sampling sites that exceeded the permitted limits of water quality, but the concentration of pollutants was high at the beginning operation in June. Moreover, concentration of turbidity, $KMnO_4$ consumption and total colony were higher in ground fountains than in wall and general fountains. Five species of antibiotic resistant E. coli were detected from three sampling sites. Conclusions: The waterscape facilities were significantly contaminated with water microorganisms, especially total colony, total coliforms and fecal coliforms. Disinfection and filtration systems to remove pollutants should be installed for safe waterscape facilities.
