This study aimed to prevent hairdressers’ faults and protect customers through the jurisprudentialinterpretation of fault liability that occurs while a hairdresser provides services. For this, based on hairdressers’ faults, court decisions and dispute resolutions by the Korea Consumer Agency were adopted to discuss compensation for damages caused by a hairdresser’s fault and formation of a bodily injury crime by negligence. In general, if a customer faces the risk of injury or losing his/her life due to a hairdresser’s fault, the latter is liable to compensate such damage according to the clause of illegal acts in accordance with Article 750 of the Civil Act and provide information on the hairdressing services in accordance with Article 19 of the Framework Act on Consumers. The results found that hairdressers are obligated to explain what chemicals will be used and how the services will be provided and inform the customer of possible adverse effects for customer safety. In the case an accident occurs due to the violation of this clause, they will be subject to civil liability for such damage and criminal liability for professional negligence. Therefore, hairdressers are required to take great care to prevent an accident resulting from their fault while the government and cosmetology organizations need to develop guidelines for hairdressers’ obligations and responsibilities.

In terms of a research topic, the beauty industry was the highest with 13 articles (41.94%), followed by makeup/hairstyling/beauty education (5 papers, 16.13%), aesthetics (2 papers, 6.45%) and nail care (1 paper, 3.22%). When compared to the beauty industry, there needed to be more studies on beauty education. In addition, there has been a demand for changes in educational environments for talent development. In terms of keyword trends, ‘augmented reality (AR)’ was the highest with 51.61%, followed by ‘virtual reality (29.03%)’, ‘3D and machine learning (6.45%)’ and ‘smart learning & metaverse (3.23%)’. In terms of a research method, ‘quantitative research’ was the highest with 13 papers (41.94%), followed by ‘literature review (8 papers, 25.8%)’, ‘other studies (5 papers, 16.13%)’, ‘mixed research (4 papers, 12.9%)’ and ‘qualitative research (1 paper, 3.23%)’. This study conducted a questionnaire survey to determine the effects of college level cosmetology majors’ participation in beauty care volunteer activities and self-esteem regarding satisfaction with their academic major and educational achievements. For data analysis, a total of 350 questionnaires were distributed. Twenty-six poorly answered ones samples were thrown out and 324 copies were chosen for analysis. Cross-tabulation analysis, t-test and multiple regression analysis were conducted, using SPSS 11.0. The results found the following: First, according to analysis of differences among satisfaction with academic major (cosmetology) by motivation in participating in beauty care volunteer activities, and satisfaction with activities and educational achievements, a significant difference was found in satisfaction with academic major (F=5.167, p<.01). Second, according to analysis on the effects of self-esteem on satisfaction with academic major and beauty care volunteer activities and educational achievement, a significant effect was observed in satisfaction with academic major and beauty care volunteer activities. In satisfaction with beauty care volunteer activities, statistical significance was found in satisfaction with academic major (cosmetology) (β value=.240, t-value=4.436, p<.001) while academic major satisfaction and beauty care volunteer activities had a significant effect on academic achievements. Therefore, if beauty care volunteer activity programs are linked with cosmetology in a way to increase college-level cosmetology majors’ perception of educational achievements, better results are expected in academic major satisfaction and educational achievements.

This study is aimed to review Hinduism and its religious code and social discipline, analyze beauty culture and its symbolism in the religion and conduct a comparative analysis on similar beauty art in other cultures and its significance. In this study, the results have been obtained. Hinduism is a polytheism and personal religion. In a broad sense, it is a lifestyle which represents Indian traits. The symbolism of beauty culture discovered in Hindu rituals and practices is as follows. First, bathing symbolizes purification. While it is matched with bathing culture in Buddhism, the purpose of bathing was for entertainment during the Roman period. Second, a shaved head and dreadlocks mean repentance and asceticism, respectively. Specifically, a shaved head symbolizes agony and segregation from the mundane world in Buddhism. In African primitive culture, on the contrary, it is a ritual action and means to acquire a higher position in a community and family. Third, the eyeliner and mark on the forehead symbolize reception and communication, respectively. Specifically, eyeliner stands for protection from desert dust, bugs and strong sunlight in the ancient Egyptian culture, while the dot on the forehead represents wisdom and benevolence from Buddha in Buddhism. Fourth, Kolam symbolizes warding off an evil spirit. In ancient Egyptian culture, on the other hand, it represents an immortal soul, women's fertility and sexuality. In other words, the symbolic meaning of beauty culture can be similar or different by culture.

The National Competency Standards (NCS) continues to develop due to certain disagreements between cosmetology education institutes and industrial organizations. Therefore, this study attempted to investigate disparity in training experience by the competency unit of the NCS for hairdressing by the perception of said standards among hairdressers and differences between its importance and proficiency. For the research method, a questionnaire survey was conducted among hairdressers from March 1 to 31, 2016. Among a total of 530 questionnaires, 504 copies were used for final analysis. The results found the following: First, when the NCS was perceived, the following lessons were greater: ‘customer services’, ‘counseling for treatment’, ‘shampooing’, ‘basic haircut’, ‘basic perm’ and ‘basic hair coloring’. Second, when the respondents were aware of the NCS, ‘basic haircut’, ‘basic hair coloring’, ‘hairstyling’ and ‘cosmetology business management’ were deemed important. Third, when the NCS was recognized, proficiency was high in the following: ‘safety & hygiene management’, ‘customer services’, ‘counseling for treatment’, ‘basic haircut’, ‘applied haircut’, ‘basic perm’, ‘applied perm’, ‘basic hair coloring’, ‘applied hair coloring’, ‘hairstyling’, ‘scalp & hair care’, ‘use of professional hair-care products’ and ‘cosmetology business management’.
