Bacterial cellulose, which consists of extremely fine microfibrils of pure cellulose, has been attracting intersts as a novel functional material. In this study, possible utilization of this material produced by some strains of Acetobacter in Korean traditional paper making was tested. When it was added at wet-end, both mechanical strengths(tensile, tearing) and air resistance of handsheets were improved. Especially, the tensile and bursting strength of Korean traditional paper increased to about two-fold as the content of bacterial cellulose was 2 % (dry weight base). Thus, the bacterial cellulose may be useful as a wet-end additive for korean traditional paper making.

The size of the bubbles generated from perforated plates and hold-up were invertigated experimentally in two-phase bubble columm at low gas flow rate(0~3 X10^-2m/s). The size of bubbles formed at a single orifice was influenced by the diameter of orifice linearly. The average diameter of the bubbles decreased as the vlourne of gas-chamber increased but this effect weakened as the volume of gas-chamber was larger than 2.5X10^-4m³. For conditions in which the volume of gas-chamber had no effect on the bubble size, hold-up and bubble size increased with the gas flow rate.

The research has been carried out to study the p개duction of sodium gluconate by recombinant Aspergillus niger in the 100ℓ pilot plant. Filamentous fungi are used in a variety of industrial processes including the production of fermenter food, primary metabolites such as organic acids and vitamins and secondary metabolites. sodium gluconate, one of commercial derivatives of gluconic acid, has been mostly produced by a biological process from glucose with filamentous fungi. The productivity of sodium gluconate has been improved by a genetically engineed Aspergillus niger. Four recombinant A. niger, [God]-1,2,3 and 4, were cultured in batch and its cell growth rate, productivity of sodium gluconate and oxalate production were compared with each other. The [God]-4 strain showed excellent cell growth rate and productivity and low concentration of oxalate.

Ozone has a potency for disinfection, disinfection, and decomposition of organic materials by strong oxidation. therefore we used the ozonizer for disinfection and deoderization of a piggery. CFU of the ozonated piggery was lower than the others, and the ozonizer was redesigned from open-type to close-type to obtain high ozone concentration. We also investigated the effect of air velocity to ozone concentration.
